    An Early Start

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 36 °F

It's time for more traveling and we're going to Las Vegas! We were picked up by an Uber driver 3 minutes after we put in for the ride. They work so quickly! We decided to use a car service this time rather than have somebody drop us off at the airport since it was so early.
This was my first time to ride in a Toyota Prius. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it felt exactly like a regular car. Being a hybrid, and running on electricity, I was would think that it would be a silent and very smooth ride. It just felt so normal though. I'm kind of disappointed.

  • Terminal B

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

Since there was no traffic, we made it to the airport very quickly. We haven't been to LaGuardia in a while and the construction seems to be in full swing. We made it through it all quickly, since it's so early, but I could see this being a nightmare during the rush hour traffic.Read more

  • Checking In

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

This is our first time flying with Southwest and my first impression leaves me less than impressed. We waited on to check in for our flight and when we got there all we did was check in using the terminal and the Southwest agent just ignored us. Not even a good morning! I think that they could do a little better with their customer service.Read more

  • TSA

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

We were surprised by how crowded and busy the TSA security check area was. Thankfully, the lines moved much faster than we expected and we got through the lines quickly.

  • Pulled

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

Kathy was pulled from the line and needed to have her bag rechecked because she forgot to take her tablet out of her bag. After a rescan on the x-ray machine she was good to go. While I was waiting for her, I saw some people being rechecked several times. I wonder what they were doing wrong? Fortunately, it wasn't a big deal for us. We got here very early and still have plenty of time.Read more

  • The New LGA

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

It was nice seeing all the progress at LaGuardia. This place has come so far from the way it used to be. Once all of the construction is finally done, this place is going to be amazing!

  • Gate 56

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

We made it to the gate with plenty of time to spare and now we're just waiting to leave. Our flight is scheduled for an 8:00 am departure so we've got lots of time.

  • Big Bottom

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

With nothing else to do, we're just relaxing and people watching. Kathy noticed this woman and pointed her out to me. That's so big that it doesn't even look real. It's as if she has a pillow stuffed into her pants. The Kardashian girls can't compete with her! Hahaha!Read more

  • Sunrise

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

The sun is coming up and the day is starting. We've still got a while until we leave though. The time is passing by so slowly.

  • Still Waiting

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

We're not flying on Air Canada but that just happened to be the plane parked near our window. I guess that it's so early that our plane isn't even at the gate yet. A little less than two hours until we leave. I'm ready.Read more

  • Southwest Airlines

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

Kathy was telling me that Southwest Airlines doesn't have assigned seats on their flights. I've never heard of a system like this but I don't think that I like it. I'm hoping that we can get two seats together. I always hate sitting next to strangers. Overhead baggage storage for our stuff would be great also.Read more

  • Ready to Board

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

Southwest Airlines has the most bizarre boarding process. People have to line up according to a letter designation and, then, the line is further split up into numbered groups. I was A50 meaning that, in the first group, I was the 50th passenger allowed to board. This is silly and causes unnecessary confusion. Why don't they just use the same boarding process that every other airline uses? I guess that there's always someone who's got to be different..Read more

  • We're Seated

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

Once you're allowed to get on the plane, your free to grab whatever seat that you want. We were lucky enough to get two seats together, plus room in the overhead bin for our bags, but I'm guessing that this could be a problem for a family traveling with children. I don't think that it's fair to make a family split up their seats. I guess that's why we never used Southwest while traveling when the kids were small. • And We're Away!

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 37 °F

I'm surprised that we took off so quickly. It seemed that as soon as the plane was fully boarded and everyone was seated it was time to go. I have to say, I do like Southwest's efficiency. Despite their boarding plan oddities, I suppose that they do some things very well.Read more

  • Snack Time

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 27 °F

We're somewhere over Pennsylvania and that means it's snack time here on Southwest. We were given Plane Cookies, which I hope aren't too plain, and pretzels, just "because they like us". I think that I'll hold on to these for a while. I don't want to have cookies and pretzels for breakfast.Read more

  • Enjoying the Flight

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 30 °F

We're having a good time on the flight so far. The captain just announced that me may be getting to Dallas a bit early due to the weather. I guess that means we have a good tailwind behind us. I hope that the time passes quickly.Read more

  • So Sleepy

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ❄️ 32 °F

Waking up so early this morning is starting to catch up with us. We're both so tired but it's always very difficult to sleep while sitting up in an airplane seat. I'm surprised that Southwest doesn't give out pillows or blankets like all the other airlines do. I could sure use a pillow right now. My neck is feeling so stiff and sore! I have an airplane pillow in my bag but it's in the overhead bin. Since I'm in the window seat, I guess that it will have to stay there. I'm not going to make every one wake up to let me get it. I suppose that I'll just have to deal with it. I'm hoping that we get to Dallas soon...Read more

  • Everything is Southwest

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 34 °F

Dallas certainly seems to be Southwest country because that's the only airline I've seen at this airport. Could this be an airport designed by, and for, Southwest Airlines only? I've never heard of something like that but I suppose it's possible.
Update - I've researched this airport and found that it's Southwest's corporate headquarters and their main operating hub, which explains why everything here seems to be exclusively Southwest.

  • We're in Dallas!

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 34 °F

This is my first look at Dallas and, unfortunately, I'm not very impressed. In all fairness though, we only had time to see one small section that was, essentially, a food court like I'd find in a shopping mall. I was hoping to maybe find someplace where I could get some postcards or magnets, but no such luck.Read more

  • Welcome to Moe's!

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 34 °F

After quickly looking over all the possibilities for a meal, Moe's seemed to be the best choice for us. All the rest were either too crowded or we just couldn't eat what they were selling. We decided to split a chicken quesadilla, which turned out to be pretty good, as far as airport foods go. The price was quite expensive but I suppose that's to be expected when getting food at the airport.
I'm still feeling hungry though. I'm really looking forward to those buffets in Las Vegas!

  • Queued Up

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 34 °F

Since we've done it before, we knew exactly where to line up when it was time to start boarding. I still think that it's a strange and confusing system though. At least this is the last time we have to do it though. It's going to be nice flying home on JetBlue.Read more

  • Shut Up, Sit Down!

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 34 °F

We're back on Southwest Airlines, this time going from Dallas to Las Vegas. I was starting to think that maybe I was a bit hasty in my judgement and that Southwest wasn't so bad but, while the passengers were boarding, and finding seats, the flight attendant got on the loud speaker and said, "Everybody find a seat and sit down so we can get outta here on time!" Kathy and I were both surprised by the anger and impatience in her tone. Ordinarily, I wouldn't think much of this but for a company that's constantly crowing about how wonderful their customer service is, it's awful. That one statement knocked Southwest Airlines down to the bottom of the heap, as far as I'm concerned.Read more

  • Up in the Air

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 25 °F

I'm starting to see what looks like snow. We must be up in the mountains to be seeing snow now. All I know is, every mile is taking us closer to Las Vegas. I'm feeling so hungry and tired. I hope that we get there soon.Read more

  • Almost There!

    March 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

The captain just announced that we're making our final descent into Las Vegas but I don't see anything out the window. Just mountains and lots of empty land. I'm so happy that we're nearly there! My back and my neck are aching. This flight feels like it's been too long.Read more
