We've landed in Las Vegas and now starts the big rush to get out of the plane. People seem to move so slowly getting up from their seat and taking their bags from the overhead bin. We're seated towards the rear of the plane so I think that we're going to be stuck here waiting for our turn to get out for a while.Læs mere

We're finally off the plane and just got into the airport. It feels so good to be on my feet and walking around again! Since we didn't check any bags, we're able to go straight to the ground transportation area and find ourselves a taxi. We're both very tired but ready to enjoy Las Vegas.Læs mere

We Need a Lyft

It was a long walk to the area where Uber and Lyft cars are allowed to pick up passengers. It seems like they are put far away deliberately to encourage people to use the regular taxi cabs in Las Vegas. That sort of thinking won't work with us though. The traditional cabs are so much more expensive than Lyft and Uber. People seem very aware of that, too. The waiting area was so crowded when we arrived. We ended up having to share a ride also. At least got dropped off first though. Being on the south side of the strip, New York New York is one of the first hotels you pass coming out of the airport.Læs mere

After a bit of a wait, we left the airport sharing a Lyft cab. It didn't really matter to us because our hotel was so close to the airport and we were just so eager to get there. Because our ride was a short one, we were dropped off first. We're staying at the New York New York this time. I like trying a different hotel each time we visit Las Vegas. I'm hoping that, one day, we'll have stayed at least one night in every resort on the Strip.Læs mere

We did the online check in while we were still in the airport so we didn't have to wait on those long check in lines that seem to plague every hotel on the Strip. All we had to do was scan the barcode they sent us in an email and and our room keys popped out of a kiosk. This is a great idea and I don't know why more people aren't taking advantage of it. I guess that they love waiting in line.Læs mere

It was a bit tricky at first to find the proper elevator but we were soon in our room. We're in room 1110, with a view looking out over the Strip. Right now, we're both just relaxing a bit before going out to get something to eat. We haven't even had breakfast yet so, naturally, we're starving!Læs mere

Kathy is letting our family back home that we got here okay and just checked into our room. Judy is very confused as to why we are staying at the New York New York saying that we just came from New York so why would we want to stay at the New York New York hotel. I don't think that she really understands what each hotel is like. She visits Vegas every year, with Joe, and they always stay at the Rio. The Rio isn't even on the Las Vegas Strip so there isn't much to do there. I don't think that they ever leave the Rio property either. That's sad, I think. She should come to Las Vegas with us and learn how to have fun!Læs mere

Since we hadn't eaten anything yet today, we decided to go to one of the famous Las Vegas buffets. The New York New York doesn't have any buffets, which I found a bit odd since nearly all the hotels on the strip have one, so we had to go to the buffet at the MGM Grand, which was right next door to New York New York. The food was very good and we both had plenty to eat. My hunger is satisfied!Læs mere

Exhaustion Takes Over

As we were leaving the buffet, Kathy started not feeling very well and wanted to get back to our hotel room right away. As soon as we got there, she ran into the bathroom and everything that she ate came right out. I don't know if the food didn't agree with her, if it was exhaustion from the early plane ride, or something else, but she wasn't doing well. I felt so bad for her.
After coming out of the bathroom, she just wanted to lie down and rest for a little while. I thought that would be a good idea and was hoping that relaxing would help her feel better. Rather than going out on my own, I stayed in the room with her, laying beside her on the bed. I must have been a lot more tired than I thought because I fell asleep almost instantly.Læs mere

I guess that I was a lot more tired than I thought, because the next thing that I remember was waking up at nearly three in the morning. The room must have those blackout curtains because I was in total darkness and couldn't see anything at all. I wondered if this is what being blind must feel like. Using my phone as a flashlight, I was able to find my way to the bathroom and get undressed for bed. I noticed that Kathy was wearing her pajamas so I guess that she had woken up earlier and then went back to sleep. I was still feeling so tired so I just took a quick peek out the window and went back to sleep.Læs mere

We woke up this morning feeling very refreshed and relaxed. I'm shocked by how much we slept but I guess all that traveling took more out of us than we thought. I'm sure that getting sick from the buffet at MGM Grand didn't help Kathy either. I'm glad she's feeling much better now.
Rather than tempting fate with another buffet, we opted for a simple breakfast downstairs in the New York New York. We ate at the Village Street Bakery, a place that we ate at the last time that we visited Las Vegas. It was quick and simple fare which is perfect for us right now.Læs mere

I got a buttered onion bagel and Kathy had a yogurt and fruit parfait. I must say, for a bagel outside of New York, it was quite good. I think that the hotel must fly these in from New York to match that authentic New York bagel taste so well. The price was kind of expensive, $3.50 for just one bagel, but I guess that's to be expected while dining in the resorts. I'm just happy that Kathy was feeling much better. While we ate, we talked about what we wanted to see today and went over possible ideas for the week. This is going to be a great vacation!Læs mere

After breakfast, we walked around the casino for a bit but didn't play anything yet. Signs of the new hockey team, the Las Vegas Golden Knights, were everywhere we looked. Most of the employees were wearing their jerseys, signs were hanging everywhere and their logo was even displayed on the gaming tables. It's good to show pride for your local team but this is crazy! You would think that the hotel was a team sponsor or something!Læs mere

There's a Hershey Store right inside the New York New York hotel. I like the Hershey Store a lot and already have seen several things that I'd like to get but, unfortunately, everything there is kind of expensive. We're at the Saxe Theater in the Planet Hollywood Miracle Mile Shops looking into show tickets for the Comedy Magic of Nathan Burton show. We saw this show the last time we were here in Las Vegas and had such a good time. His show is quite inexpensive, when compared to many of the other entertainment options here in Vegas, and Kathy just found a discount on Groupon making the show even more price friendly. I hope that Nathan Burton has changed his show around since the last time we've been here. I'm hoping to see some new material from him!Læs mere

I really like the Miracle Mile Shops in Planet Hollywood. The shops seem to be exactly the same as what we saw the last time we were in Las Vegas but that's okay because most of them are really good and are selling interesting stuff. We're not buying anything, yet, but it's fun to look.Læs mere

Always look up or you'll miss sites like this, the stained glass dome over the walkway between the Paris Las Vegas and Bally's Resort. I'm surprised by how many people I saw just walking on by and not even glancing up to take in this magnificent domed ceiling made of stained glass. Most people are so self-absorbed that they have no appreciation of their surroundings. I think that's so sad.Læs mere

We've been walking on the Las Vegas Strip all morning and we're finally taking a much needed rest in Bally's. Fortunately, it's not crowded here so we can sit on these soft chairs in the casino and not be in anybody's way. As an added bonus, there's a restroom right across from where we're sitting. Kathy's going through the Vegas 2 Go tourism book looking for a possible spot for lunch. We're getting hungry and so many of the restaurants here look fantastic.Læs mere

We walked back to the Planet Hollywood resort and got there just as Gordon Ramsay's Burger was opening. We've eaten at Chef Ramsay's Burger restaurant on our last visit to Las Vegas and we loved it. Since we were already quite hungry, we decided to eat here before they built up too much of a crowd. In fact, I barely had enough time to take this picture before we were being seated. I've got a feeling that this is going to be a great lunch!Læs mere

A New Menu

We noticed right away that the menu here is different now. Not only has it's appearance changed but everything that they served before is now different. Everything was perfect before so why did they have to play with it? I must say, the new offerings don't sound anywhere near as appealing as what we had the last time we were here. The burger that I had last time was incredible and I was kind of looking forward to having that again. Right now, I'm kind of disappointed in the new menu selections. I guess that we'll just have to pick something and hope for the best.Læs mere

This is what I selected from the new menu. It's listed as the Ultimate Cheeseburger which is a hamburger covered with aged provolone, dubliner and boursin cheeses. I've never heard of boursin or dubliner cheese but I was pleasantly surprised. My burger was perfectly prepared and the different cheeses mixed together quite well.Læs mere

A Great Lunch

This was a much better burger than I was expecting it to be and the only complaint I can possibly think of is that the portions seem to have gotten a bit smaller than what I remember. I really wish that my burger was just a bit bigger. Kathy got the Forest Burger which featured tremor cheese, seasonal forest mushrooms, arugula and duck bacon. She ordered her burger without the tremor cheese, and enjoyed her lunch so much. The standout was the duck bacon. She gave me a taste and I loved it.
We shared an order of fries and I also ordered the chocolate caramel tart shake, which was delicious. It was made with milk chocolate cream, hazelnut ice cream, hazelnut crunch, and milk chocolate. Kathy didn't want any of the shake because she thought that it was too sweet. For our french fries, we had to request regular ketchup. The two kinds of ketchup we were originally given with them was curry ketchup and chipotle ketchup. We didn't care for either of them. We tried them but they were just too spicy for us.
We had such a good lunch and we'd definitely come back again. I just hope they don't change the menu anymore!Læs mere

As we were wandering around the Miracle Mile Shops, Kathy noticed these stormtrooper bears and pointed them out to me. I thought that this might be a toy store or a comic shop and I might be able to get some new action figures but, instead, this was a sneaker store. I don't understand why a sneaker store would display brick bears in their windows. Very strange.. It was a good catch by Kathy to spot them though!Læs mere

Next Stop, ABC!

After we finished our lunch, we wandered around Planet Hollywood's Miracle Mile Shops and made ABC our first stop. ABC is a mix of 7-11 and a Las Vegas souvenir shop. Unlike most of the 7-11's I've been to, everything here is reasonably priced. We've been getting water here quite often. The price was right, at only $1, and the water was nice and cold. For some reason, water fountains are very rare in Las Vegas. I'm thinking that the casinos prefer that you buy drinks, usually alcohol, from them. We don't drink so ABC's water is perfect for us!Læs mere
