Dracula's Haunted Castle

This is another of the haunted houses on Clifton Hill. Dracula's Castle is, like the others, filled with live actors, ready to jump out and scare you. This place looks like a lot of fun, but I just couldn't go in if I knew people are in there just waiting to terrify me.Baca lagi

Great Canadian Midway

This place looks like a fun carnival midway but once inside, it's nothing more than a big arcade. Most of the video games seem very dated, too. I walked around in here for a bit, looking for Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, my two favorites, but couldn't find either game. Too bad. I would have played them. It's been years since I've played a video game in a real arcade.Baca lagi

The Fun House

This place was right next to my hotel and walking past it was annoying. It was very loud with music, laughter and silly talking being broadcast out into the street. I guess they feel they need to do something to attract attention and potential customers but, for me, it just kept me away! This is more a place for kids, I suppose.Baca lagi

The Strike bowling alley might have been fun, if I wasn't by myself. This area is usually bustling with people but I'm guessing January is not really a big tourist season for Canada.

Stopping by at the Hotel

I just stopped by the room to get my warmer coat, and tripod, and now I'm ready to go out for a night of photography in Clifton Hill! This was taken while walking through the hotel's parking lot as I went out onto the main street.Baca lagi

The Blue Moose

This big blue Canadian moose was standing just outside the entrance to the parking lot for my hotel. He made a great landmark when headed back to my room!

Not So Crowded

Even though the fog ruined my chances to see the Falls, I wasn't going to let that spoil my fun. Clifton Hill had so must to do and lots of good photo opportunities. Here, I think the fog made for some interesting shots. I was planning to ride the Niagara Sky Wheel but, with all the fog, I wouldn't have been able to see anything. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to get on next time. This courtyard area is usually quite busy but I guess the fog, and the cold, is keeping everyone away.Baca lagi

Niagara Skywheel

The Niagara Sky Wheel is another thing that the fog ruined for me. I've never been on this before but, after being on the London Eye in England, I was really eager to ride this giant ferris wheel. Although it was open, and running, there was no point for me to get on. The fog wouldn't let me see anything, let alone get good pictures. Maybe next time...Baca lagi

It's a T-Rex!

I've still never had the chance to play the dinosaur miniature golf course at Clifton Hill. Usually, when I'm in Niagara Falls, it's night time and that's really a bad time to go golfing. I can't even remember the last time I've played miniature golf. I should try it again sometime soon.Baca lagi

When Dinosaurs Attack

This is one of the dinosaurs from the miniature golf course at Clifton Hill standing near the Niagara Sky Wheel. I've been wanting to get this shot since my first visit to Niagara Falls many years ago. I was determined to get it this time and it was one of the first pictures I took once the tripod came out. The dinosaurs from the miniature golf course really make great additions to shots of the big ferris wheel. I wish that more of the dinosaur figures were set up around the Niagara Sky Wheel.

Ripley's Believe It or Not

Ripley's Believe it or Not museum was closed down for renovation the last time I was here but it's good to see the place open for business again. I was thinking of going in but decided against it. I only have one night here so I really want to concentrate on photography. I've been to the Ripley's in New York City a few times already and I imagine that all of the Ripley's museums are quite similar.Baca lagi

Ray, Chris and the kids finally arrived and Kathy told me that he was very surprised and happy. I'm glad to hear that the party was such a great success.
The choice of food, however, was an entirely different story. Chris picked the restaurant so I'm guessing that she and Ray like Peruvian food. Kathy told me that, as far as everyone else was concerned, it was almost inedible. That's saying a lot because Kathy can eat nearly anything without a complaint. She told me that all she ate was a bit of rice and a few french fries. In fact, she left the restaurant starving and had to stop off somewhere on the way home to get herself more food for her dinner. That's sad. I can't blame her though. I don't think that I'd care for Peruvian food either. I probably wouldn't have even tried the rice. Just french fries for me! I wonder if they tasted like regular American fries. I'm thinking that they were possibly seasoned with some kind of Peruvian spices or have some sort of spicy sauce poured over them.Baca lagi

It always amazes me how people will ignore you while you're walking around while taking pictures but as soon as you set up a tripod, everyone is so interested in what you're doing. Is a tripod really that much of an attention grabber? Such silliness!

Beaver Tails

Beaver Tails are one of the greatest Canadian snacks ever! It's a flat oval shaped pastry type of thin dough, shaped like a beaver's tail, and then different toppings are piled on top. My favorite variety is Nutella with bananas and whipped cream but another good choice is the Apple pie filling with whipped cream. No trip to Canada is complete without getting a beaver tail! These are so popular that they used to be sold in the Canadian pavilion at Epcot's World Showcase in Disney World. I don't know why they discontinued them. It was Epcot's best snack!Baca lagi

Although the restaurant that they picked for Ray's birthday seemed terrible, at least they had enough sense to get a cake from Yeh's Bakery. Our family has been getting all of our cakes here for years and they always taste fantastic. This is the only thing that I would have eaten, if I had gone to the restaurant with everyone else. I'd love a slice of that cake right now, in fact. I'm really starting to get hungry. I'm glad that Kathy is sending me pictures of what's going on back home. I miss her so much!Baca lagi

House of Frankenstein

The House of Frankenstein is one of several haunted house attractions on Clifton Hill. I've never been to any of them but I'm thinking that all of them are, pretty much, the same. This one has the best looking exterior though.
As much as I love the idea of places like this, I don't like haunted houses that have real people working inside, ready to jump out at me. The Haunted Mansion at Disney World is about my limit for this sort of thing. I'd much rather visit a place like this if it was a wax museum or basically anything that didn't have real people jumping out and scaring me.Baca lagi

Frankenstein's Burger

By now, I was getting very hungry so I decided to get get something for dinner. There was a place that sold really good 1/4 pound hot dogs and very tasty soft ice cream that I had wanted to go to but they have since closed down and their place was taken by a Wendy's. Dairy Queen would have been my next choice for food but they were closed so it looked like Wendy's was my best choice. I got a Dave's Double Burger and fries and brought it back to the room to have a late dinner.
My bad luck on this trip was holding steady because after eating only a quarter of the burger and a few fries, I started feeling kind of funny and threw it all up. The rest of the food went into the trash and I just went to bed. I had planned on going out and taking pictures again but there was no way I was up to it tonight. All I wanted now was sleep. I hoped I would be feeling better in the morning.Baca lagi

A Bad Night

Even after I went to sleep, my bad luck kept going. Around 2:00 in the morning, I was woken up by someone pounding on the door yelling that they were ready to go now. Next, another person was yelling, No! Not that room, the next one! The guy beating on the door shouted out, "Sorry, man!" and then took off.
As if that wasn't bad enough, I was woken up again a bit after 4:00 by people arguing in the hotel's parking lot. They might even have been the same people who were pounding on my door before. I didn't know or even care. At this point, I was really regretting coming to Niagara Falls. I don't know how so many things could be going wrong in one weekend. I think it's going to be a very long time until I decide to visit Canada again. That makes me feel sad because, before today, I had nothing but good memories of Niagara Falls and Canada.
I was debating on just checking out of the hotel and leaving, even though it was so early, but I was still so tired. I decided to just stay in bed a bit longer and get some more rest. I must have fallen back asleep because the next thing I know, it was 7:00am.Baca lagi

Good Morning?

As soon as I woke up, I went straight to the window, hoping to see the fog had faded away and the weather now calls for a clear and sunny sky. No such luck though. This is my view out of the hotel window. The fog looks just as bad as yesterday, if not worse. My last chance to see Niagara Falls before I leave is gone.Baca lagi
