    June 19, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 25 °C

Today was seriously THE perfect day. The boys got up early to work out, during which time I peacefully continued sleeping and then we went for a dip in the hotel's pool. Ate some sandwiches and veggies, dried ourselves by the sun before checking out and road-tripped to Monument Valley and beyond.
Today was a day full of complete AWE.
Steve the snack-master dialled it down a notch and Luke finished inhaling all his twinkies. We bought fruits and veggies instead, can you believe that?
Was my idea instead of Steve's, so maybe it's not that unimaginable after all.😜
    I LOVE THE USA.

  • Page, Arizona + Kanab, Utah

    June 21, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

The day started with a simple breakfast and the boys checking out Antelope Canyon. Since I saw it last year, I sat this one out. A few hours later our next adventure awaited our participation: a helicopter tour! And yes, it was as exciting and fun as it sounds.
Well, for me, it was also nauseating, since the pilot did a nose-dive and nose-rise (pretty sure that's not an actual word) steeply up and down. Luke's arm had some... lets say... memories, as well. I saw imminent death before me so I had to hold on tight.
Otherwise it was real nice, haha! The views were definitely worth it. I was both glad and unsettled to then stand on Tower Butte, especially because there was no railing. One missstep too close to the edge and boom, 304m down you go.
But lets stay positive, eh? We made some fantastic pictures!
Oh and our night's stay was pretty lit: we slept in a tent with a proper bed in the absolute middle of nowhere (Kanab). And I made coffee with a French Press this morning and burned some arm-hairs off since I don't usually use a gas-stove. Nothing serious happened! (Even though my poor arm-hairs would disagree.)

  • North Rim, Arizona + Hatch, Utah

    Jun 22–25, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Man oh man have we seen stuff! We met up with my relatives, Kam and Dagny and had a superb lunch right in front of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and then drove out to sleep in a Tipi. But before I talk about the Tipi: WE SAW A HERD OF BISON! And one big guy decided the street would be a nice place to pee.
I had lots of fun making a million pictures of them.🦬
Also drove past a lot of dead forest, which apparently has been dead for over 15 years. I thought a lot of it looked super recent. Apparently it just takes nature really long to heal.
Also, I heard so many animals skittle around next to us that I woke up half a dozen times, but the Tipi was still a cute experience. Also learned to insert and take out my lenses without a mirror. I didn't even poke my eyeballs out.🤓

  • Bryce Canyon, Utah

    Jun 22–23, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Spent today exploring Bryce Canyon. It was super hot, but we did so some hiking. Not for very long, though, since it was just simply too hot. Also, an absolute perfect end to the day: we're at a place with a kitchen and we can FINALLY cook a homemade meal.
Guess what we'll be having😁 I'll give you one hint: it's your go-to food whenever you're not at home but eat it at home all the time.🥸

Another highlight to our roadtrip: The Grand Canyon.
I sat this one out again, mostly because I was having some stomach pain (Guatemalan food gave me some uncool bacteria it seems) so the boys went on their own. Apparently Steve saw his life flash before his eyes as he walked onto some rock that was seemingly "hanging" on to the rest of the cliff to make a picture and Luke got bitten in the finger by a chipmunk he wanted to highfive.
    Boys will be boys.

And another: Las Vegas, where LED's are flashing all over the place and millions of people lose a lot of money🤣
Let's see how much the boys shall win or loose, since Steve was already saying he'll have to win back the money he paid for two overprized wraps and some drinks.
I, on the other hand, shall watch as our trip continues in the hopes that everyone remains in good spirits🤓

  • Fallbrook

    Jun 27–29, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Viva Las Vegas but goodbye 45 degrees HEAT day and night!
It's the hottest I've ever been exposed to. So Las Vegas was quite fun: we saw a show called "Rouge" which I ask you not to google please (and most of you will probably be too lazy unless I've piqued your interest by mentioning all this) and another called Iluminate. Both were shows in our hotel, so that was convenient. And we ate quite good food as well.
Our departure was most iconic however: I distinctly remember Luke saying; "I'm not sure if this is a parking space but if it isn't, I'm making it one."
The towing service cared little, however, and took our car regardless of my dearest boyfriend's superpowers. We searched almost every floor for it. AT 45 DEGREES.
You can guess who let who search for the missing car and guard the suitcases.😉
Well, a pleasant uber drive to the towing service and one juicy bill later, we hit the road to Fallbrook where we are staying to check out San Diego. I've never heard of Fallbrook either.
    Y'all have a good night.😎🚗👨🏻‍🔧🛞

  • San Diego, California

    June 28, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

San Diego Safari Zoo and the city itself. Well, San Diego Safari Zoo was nice but not quite as expected. There were still too many cages for my taste, even if the zoo is huge and a few habitats equally huge. San Diego itself was OK. We went to see Balboa Garden which was cute where we stopped for a quick drink/appetizer before we went back to our air bnb in Fallbrook. Cooked pasta at 10pm and played Uno till around midnight.
All in all it was a fun day😇🐒🦁🦘🦒🐘🦏

  • Santa Monica Pier, California

    July 1, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Our third day in Los Angeles was spent sleeping in and heading out to Venice Beach as well as Santa Monica Pier. (The day before we spent too much money at the mall, but we watched Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in Universal Studios Cinema, so that was GREAT. At least I thought so, Steve fell asleep so I think he might've preferred The Ring or something equally scary to keep him awake.)
Anyway, after chilling out at The Pier and eating at Bubba Gump's, we returned to our downtown hotel and clocked out for the night.🥸

  • Hollywood, California

    July 2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

So since Universal Studios is a tiny bit pricy (a one-day ticket costing 144$ per person), we opted for the cheaper version that focuses more on the movie making itself, Warner Bros Studios. After a slow morning we drove out to Hollywood and saw the sets of Pretty Little Liars, Gilmore Girls, Friends and some places where other famous scenes were shot. What we learned: film-making is as minimalistic as possible. They use a manual pump + waterbucket to film someone washing their hands and thus recycle a lot, rather than installing plumbing. Makes sense!
After our tour we drove through Sunset Boulevard and Beverly Hills.
And to end the night: a basketball game in the Crypto.com stadium, LA Sparks vs Washington Mystics.
And in case the names didn't hint at it: it was womens basketball.
(I only noticed that detail post buying tickets, but it was still a great game, even though we planned to watch mens basketball.) 🤓🎞️📽️📺🎥🏀⛹🏼‍♀️⛹🏾‍♀️🏙️

  • Dodgers Stadium, Los Angeles

    July 3, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I'm back! And with some stories to tell, so stay tuned and online to find out all the juicy details.
Let us begin with July 3rd: Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles. We spent the majority of the day arguing, which the three of us do frequently, about 88 million subjects. I mean it was great because Rodeo Drive is packed with Lambos and stores like Prada and Gucci, so it kept us from emptying our wallets since we don't have much left anyway, lol.
Now the highlight of the day (besides me winning any and all arguments, of course) was watching LA Dodgers vs Arizona Diamondbacks play baseball. The first round LA scored 4 points, while Arizona began with 1. The rest of all 9 rounds LA scored ZILCH. I mean nothing. Zero. Every single round. The stadium emptied out by round 7, thehe. It was a game of over 3 HOURS. But it was super cool eating an overpriced American hotdog in such a humongously large stadium with real life bleachers, just like in the movies! 🧢🌭🧋⚾️🏟️💎📉

PS. one mentionable argument was in parkinglot 11, when Luke tried 3 different uber drivers all cancelling the drive saying the roads were closed and wanting to call a 4th one, when I intervened and questioned why the first 3 weren't enough proof that they just simply couldn't fly themselves in. My plan was to find a street with cars driving in AND out (not just out of the parking lots) and tada! First uber driver we called once in said street, we were picked up in a fancy BMW. Henceforth I win any and all arguments.😎

  • Malibu, California

    July 4, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Malibu! Maahaaaalibuuu (if you're singing that with Miley Cyrus' voice in your head, we're probably friends.) Well Malibu was a disappointment. I mean it was a cute beach, I guess, but errr... not half the hype worth, really. Just a beach.
That's why this footprint is exceptionally short.
I do have a story to tell, as promised: the funnest (I like inventing my own words regardless of grammatical incorrectness) about our short walk up the beach. Houses here are built super close to the ocean, and I have no idea if it was high tide or not, but the waves came tumbling towards us and we jumped over rocks and ducked underneath wooden planks. Felt like "the floor is lava" only with the waves. We had a blast feelin' like kids.😎

  • Santa Barbara, California

    July 4, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Wheew! We contuined on from Malibu to Santa Barbara. Since we stuffed our faces with D'Amores Pizza in Malibu, we were too full to stop for Tacos🥹 But after driving through cute Santa B, we drove to the coast where the weather was just way too cold and headed up to Cambria.
Ha. Haaaha. Here the story of the decade begins...
Motels are all over the place in the US, and on roadtrips people in every single movie I've ever watched, stop whenever they see one and stay for a night.
That was my plan for last night.
Well... I didn't think CAMBRIA was going to be booked out completely. And everything in a thirdy minute radius too, nonetheless!
So cruising around the little towns next to Cambria like some creepsters, we searched and searched. We headed out to one hotel Booking.com showed us was vacant, didn't book however to save money to book on site... and the damn hotel was under construction. No reception! I mean thank god we didn't book a room 'cause we would've had to sleep in a construction site! Then we went to the Carlton hotel and the lady at the reception called around 3 hotels in the vicinity for us. Surprise: all booked out. And I thought we were in the middle of freakin' nowhere but apparently not.
To our surprise, before Stevie could start rambling on about sleeping in the car, she offered for us to stay in her home. She explained that she had 3 or 4 kids and that she and her husband have some extra rooms. After telling her that she really didn't need to do that and we certainly didn't wanna impose, we agreed because well... I didn't fancy sleeping in a car with two boys. Stevie and Luke would've snored up a storm sitting in the front seats.
We followed her in our cars to a nice looking neighborhood, met her husband and were offered some water and beer. Even a shot of pricey Tequila not to be "bottom-ed up" but "slurpily enjoyed". (Yes, more if Nat-Words and no grammar rules.)
We talked about where we were from, what we did professionally and got to know each other. They were inspiringly kind, welcoming and warm hearted. In the morning the lady went back to work and the husband made some extra coffee for us. They told us a touching story about the son they lost and I left a thank you note. Then we went to a florist, bought flowers, to an ATM and went by the hotel to thank her.
And our roadtrip continues with my heart completely moved and inspired.💎❤️

  • San Francisco, California

    Jul 5–9, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

San Francisco - a city I've wanted to see for years. And I've also heard that the Golden Gate Bridge is often hidden within a thick layer of fog, and unfortunately, today it was. But we shall try again!
Also saw the cute cable cars, had THE best Brazilian pastries I've ever eaten and went down to Pier 39. It's been warm, cold and windy!
Oh and fun story of today: Luke and I went into a gift shop, where Luke bought a jacket while I was looking at a sweatshirt. We decided to buy a duffel bag and I tried the sweatshirt on, kept it on because I wanted to pay for it with the bag but the cashier only charged the bag.
Am I a bad person for not going back in to pay for it? 🥲🥲🥲

  • Carmel by the sea & Big Sur, California

    July 6, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

I mean who the hell thought July 2024 was a good time to keep a huge part of route 1 closed? Greatest thing about this: THE MIDDLE of the road was closed so either drive up as far as possible and everything back down, or the same deal just from the other side. Stupid is as stupid does! Apparently it takes 2 years to clean up landslides. I'm not saying I have the first clue about how to deal with that kind of a mess, but come on, couldn't it have happened ANYWHERE else???
So we asked around and decided that it was more scenic driving down from Carmel to Big Sur and back rather than from San Simeon to Rugged Point (and back, mind you.) Time was of the essence which is why we didn't do both.🥲
After spending the entire day driving, we arrived in San Francisco and I already like the little of what I've seen so far.
More shall follow tomorrow of the city!

  • San Francisco, Last Day

    July 9, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

I'm a day late posting this. Yesterday started typically late in the morning and we headed out to Muir Woods shortly therafter. We saw on-site that a parking permit was required, which we obviously didn't have since we usually just drive, and the entrance fee costs 15$ per person. Also, the next parking availabilities are 5km down the road straight at the beach. We went to go check out the beach instead, wondered why people go swimming in 20degrees temperature and ate a small expensive lunch in an equally small Inn. We continued on to Presidio and headed to our hotel room, where the boys slept until we went out for an Italian dinner. Since we are absolutely ALWAYS late, we rushed the bill and went to the theater to watch "A Quiet Place". Thankfully we only missed advertisement and I enjoyed the movie. Luke wanted to end my day a little more special than it had went by going to a skylounge or a cafe to get some dessert, but by the time the movie was over, everything was closed.
    So we went to bed.🤣👍🏻🤦🏼‍♀️

PS. I think some higher power knew the day wouldn't go too great, so at least he cleared up the fog some so I could see the Golden Gate Bridge a little better.❤️

    July 10, 2024 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

    Hah! No! We're still here!
Please, gentle readers, apologize the long silence. After San Francisco, Luke and I decided (or rather our finances decided) to alter our original route from 5 weeks Indonesia to a pitstop in Switzerland. Replenishing our energy and finally seeing all family members and most friends, we are soon headed out to Italy. Now, we have a new VW Tiguan to taxi-cab us anywhere we wanna go (with Luke being the designated driver) (oh and did I mention he's the cutest breakfast maker ever?) and now we got our "save-money-pants" on. The trip ain't over yet, however! Next up is Rimini, Italy and then after more replenishing in pitstop Switzerland, we are headed to the North Sea. Plans change and though we're a tiny bit sad we're post-poning Indonesia, what we have in mind will surely be just as fun.Read more

We earlybirds got up at 5:30 AM and hit the road. Since I am not an earlybird at heart and probably never will be, I slept until 8 AM in the passenger's seat as my designated driver drove. The drive was uneventful and once we arrived in Rimini, it started raining, as if god knew two Swiss peeps were bringing in the rain. We still went for a late lunch and here's the highlight of the day and an era of newfound hope: IT COST 11€! I ate a pizza for 7.5€ and had an ice tea for 3.5€.
    I'm so happy I didn't even mind the rain.🤑☀️
