    Chattanooga

    Our first stop was Chattanooga to visit family and join the Rao's Landcruiser Rally. It was nice to spend time with my sister Pat and to be with her whole family Thursday night. We had lots of fun and laughs sightseeing with our RV friends (Rao's, Basile's, and Orchard's). We even got Dick to ride the Incline to the top of Lookout Mountain!Read more

    Today we traveled to Blountville, TN for an overnight stop at Rocky Top Campground. Easy drive and the campground is quiet and lovely.

    We spent Memorial Day weekend at Waynesboro, VA 340 North Campground. BBQ and live country music! Today we toured Monticello in Charlottesville. Beautiful setting and so much history.

  • Lancaster/Hershey

    Nice morning in Amish country around Lancaster. After a filling Amish lunch, we went Hershey for the chocolate tour. We raced home to close up the coach and take Zoey with us to Petsmart to sit out a tornado warning for our area. We drove through golf ball hail and high winds to get there. All is well. We did see a couple of trees down on the way home. One was on top of a truck!Read more

    Yesterday we drove through more torrential rain and more tornado warnings but arrived safely but exhausted at the KOA Campground in Watkins Glen in the Finger Lakes in NY. Today more rain so we visited the Corning Glass Museum. Interesting exhibit of modern glass design.Read more

    Finally a beautiful sunny day. Nice lunch outside by a fire pit on Seneca Lake at the Blue Point Grill. Good food and a surprise of chocolate covered cherries on a bed of whipped cream complimentary dessert! Afterward we hiked the Gorge Trail in Watkins Glen State Park which has 19 waterfalls along the trail. Spectacular! Afterward we drove the road along Seneca Lake for a wine tasting at Hazlitt 1852 Vineyard.Read more

    We arrived in Lake George Sunday evening after driving once again in pouring rain. On Monday we drove among the mansions in Saratoga Springs and saw the historic race track. Then we drove along the western shore to the Sagamore Resort and walked the beautiful grounds along the lake. Today we took a boat ride to the north part of the lake. The lake nestled among the Adirondack mountains is absolutely beautiful. We were surprised, however, at how cold and drizzly it has been here in June.Read more

    Yesterday we drove to Colchester, VT to visit our friends Hugh and Diane Williams. We enjoyed catching up with each other while eating a delicious dinner that night at the Blue Paddle Bistro located on Lake Champlain Isle.
    Today we met for breakfast at the Inn at Shelburne Farms. Afterwards we toured the farm and beautiful grounds and gardens. We spent the afternoon at the Shelburne Museum, an amazing collection of Americana art.
    It was nice to see Hugh and Diane's new home and community.

  • Stops in Maine

    Yesterday we drove from Colchester, VT to Wells Beach on the coast of Maine. It was nice to be on the coast again. We ate our first lobster dinner of this trip at the Fisherman's Catch in Wells Harbor. Yummy. Today we traveled north to Palmyra, ME just west of Bangor, our last stop before Canada.Read more

    We finally arrived in Canada -- St. Andrews by the Sea. The campground is beautiful and we are directly facing the ocean in our RV. It is a great place to walk the beach with Zoey at low tide. We have joined 24 other RV's to begin our Canadian Maritime Adventure.Read more

  • Kingsbrae Gardens St. Andrews

    Beautiful sunny day exploring St. Andrews. After walking the beach, we stopped by the historic Algonquin Hotel. The highlight of the day was Kingsbrae Gardens with its many themed garden areas and sculptures. Afterward we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the garden cafe with our group.Read more

  • Ministers Island

    We drove across the bottom of the ocean floor at low tide to reach Ministers Island, the estate of Sir William Van Horne. It is only accessible at low tide and a strange feeling to know that the path will be covered by 20 feet of water when the tide comes in. The island houses his 50 room estate and the country's largest wooden barn. The weather turned blustery and chilly while we were there so we ate our picnic lunch in the car!   • Fredericton New Brunswick

    Today we traveled north to Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick. On one turn on the highway we suddenly faced a railroad underpass of 4 meters (13 ft.)! We came to screeching halt since we are a little taller. Some nice Canadian trucker stopped and told us that it actually was a little higher than posted and that we would fit underneath. Whew!
    After arriving we went on a walking tour of the historic city center.

  • Fredericton

    We enjoyed relaxing this morning in our campground , Hartt Island Resort on the St. John River. It is a lovely site and we were surprised to discover that it contains a large palm tree lined pool and water park! Even though the palms are fake, it made us feel like home.
    We returned to town to visit Christ Church a beautiful cathedral built in 1845. Afterward we went across the river to eat lunch at Wolastoq Wharf , a seafood restaurant owned by native Americans. Delicious.

    Today was a long driving day in rain and fog. We arrived this afternoon in Caraquet, the capital of Acadia in north New Brunswick. We explored the quaint harbor. Everything here is in French so it feels quite foreign, but we always feel at home by the water.Read more

    We spent the day at the Village Historique Acadien. It is a huge collection of historic homes and shops from earlier times. Each house and shop had a docent reenacting life as it was in the eighteenth century. They did a great job and gave us many samples of Acadian food to taste. Fun day and beautiful weather.Read more

  • Prince Edward Island

    We drove south and crossed the Confederation Bridge to reach Prince Edward Island today. The drive across the island to our campground was spectacular with verdant rolling hills and lush farmlands. We saw many red sand potato fields that reminded us of Georgia and Alabama red clay. Tonight we visited Avonlea Village which consisted of antique buildings that are now shops and restaurants.Read more

  • Anne of Green Gables

    We started our day by visiting the house and barn of Anne of Green Gables fame. It is now part of a National Park with lovely walking trails as well. Afterward we drove to the wharf at North Rustico for lunch at the Blue Mussel Cafe-- yummy seafood chowder and fresh halibut. After lunch we drove along the north shore which has also been preserved as a National Park with its beautiful red rock formations. Offshore were thousands of lobster pots and working lobster boats.Read more

  • North Shore/Ross Family Ceilidh

    Today we first drove to Brackley Beach where we saw various local artists' works. After a nice lunch in the studio cafe and gardens, we drove along another area of the north shore which is also part of the National Park system. We found wide sandy beaches with surprisingly warm water pools. Tonight we had quite a treat. We went to the Ross Family Ceilidh nearby and were amazed at their talent both in music and traditional step dancing. They put on quite a show!Read more

  • North Rustico Wharf

    We spent our final day on Prince Edward Island back at the wharf in North Rustico. (We had to have another taste of the delicious seafood chowder at the Blue Mussel Cafe!) We loved seeing the lobstermen on the wharf bringing in their huge catch for the day. Tonight we had a group dinner at the Fisherman's Wharf--more lobster!Read more

  • Cabot Trail/Chiticamp

    Yesterday we drove seven hours in solid rain to get to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. We are staying in Baddeck on the Bras d' Or Lake.
    Today we drove up the west side of the Cabot Trail to the fishing village of Chiticamp. It was still raining and cold and the wind was gale force at over forty knots. The waves on the coast were crashing on the rocks but the locals said this was a mild summer day!
    After we returned to Baddeck, we visited the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. He had an estate in Baddeck where he did much research and some of his inventions.

  • Stuck in the Mud

    We got early today to drive to Halifax. As soon as we tried to leave our site, we discovered that we were mired in mud and unable to move. After two hours of dumping gravel and wedging boards under the wheels, we realized that we needed help. We had to call a local tow truck to get us out! We were again delayed for a half hour for the swing bridge opening at the Canso Causeway while leaving the island. We finally arrived in Halifax late in the day and were exhausted.

  • Peggy's Cove

    Beautiful sunny day!
    We drove to Peggy's Cove just outside of Halifax-- a quaint and picturesque fishing village. The terrain is very different with huge granite boulders lining the coast. We ate our best lobster roll of the trip at Tom's Lobster Shack alongside the harbor. Afterward we drove to the Halifax harbor and walked along the boardwalk.Read more
