    Long day of driving. Terribly hot-100+ degrees!
    We arrived at Blowing Springs in Bella Vista, AR late afternoon. After supper we went to Crystal Bridges for a sunset walk on the art trail. We sat in James Turrell's Sky Space at sunset to view the changing sky. After that, we went into the cute downtown Bentonville for ice cream at Sweet Dreams.Read more

    We spent the day at the Crystal Bridges art complex. In addition to the permanent American art exhibit, we were fortunate to be here during a Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit. We did a docent tour of the exhibit. What a treat!Read more

    Headed north through Missouri and then Iowa. Long day. 450 miles . When we stopped in Onawa, Iowa we were happy to finally have cooler weather . We had a nice picnic supper outside our rv.

    Drove past miles of corn and beautiful pastures. Visited Louis and Clark Interpretive Center- location of the Dignity monument honoring the Indians' respect for earth and sky. Oasis Campground and bison burger dinner at Al's Oasis Last Chance Saloon.Read more

  • Black Hills of South Dakota

    Visited the Crazy Horse Monument. Especially enjoyed the Native American Museum. We fortunate to have a native American guide who really enhanced the history and meaning of what we were seeing.
    Next we visited Mount Rushmore. The night lighting of the sculptures and patriotic program were quite moving.Read more

    We have loved our campground here. Zoey loves it too. A flowing creek meanders through the property and there is lots of nice grass for her to roll around in.🐕🤗

  • Custer State Park

    This afternoon we drove around the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park. We saw herds of Buffalo crossing in front us. We also saw wild burros, big horned sheep, prairie dogs and deer.

  • Devils Tower

    Today we drove to Devils Tower. We are staying at the base of the tower- a great view. Tonight we will watch Encounters of the Third Kind while sitting outside under the tower.

  • Custer's Last Stand

    Leaving Devils Tower, we drove to 7th Ranch RV Park near Little Bighorn Battlefield in Montana. The museum was interesting. We were surprised at the scale of the battle.
    Nice RV park- they greeted us with huckleberry ice cream. Yum.Read more

  • Bozeman, MT

    Toured the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman today. It is home of one of the largest dinosaur fossil collection in the US.
    Tonight an overnight stay at Cardwell Park and Moose Crossing in Cardwell, MT.

    We drove from just west of Billings, MT to Spokane, WA today. We crossed the Continental Divide and climbed many steep mountains. We passed through Coeur d' Alene, ID with its beautiful lake in the mountains. We had hoped to stop there but were unable to secure a spot.
    Tonight we are staying at the North Spokane RV Resort, a nice park on the north side of town.

  • Columbia River Gorge

    Two days of travel from Spokane to Portland through miles of high desert farmland and beautiful scenery along the Columbia River Gorge. Overnight stay last night in Tri-cities, WA. Tonight we are in Troutdale (Sandy Riverfront RV Resort) where we will stay for three nights.
    We had our first sighting of dust devils in the farmland and lots of white pelicans over the river.

  • Multnomah Falls

    We are really enjoying our stay in Troutdale. Had a nice dinner last night in the cute downtown with Dick's sister Jeanne and her husband Bill who were visiting from San Francisco. Our RV site is right on the river. We have enjoyed walking on the paths and picking wild blackberries.
    Today we went to the beautiful Multnomah Falls, the second highest year round waterfall in the U.S. After hiking up to the falls, we ate dinner in the historic lodge next to the falls.

  • Mount Hood

    Drove to Mount Hood and historic Timberline Lodge. Beautiful snow covered mountain with year round skiing. The timber and stone lodge sits above the tree line on the mountain and provides breath taking views. Going home we followed the "Fruit Loop" through miles of orchards and vineyards. We stopped for a tasting at Mount Hood Winery.Read more

  • Evergreen Air and Space Museum

    Drove through the Willamette Valley farmland to McMinnville, OR to see the Spruce Goose and other air and space exhibits at the Evergreen Museum.
    We stayed next to the museum at Olde Stone Village RV Resort. Nice park--nice day.Read more

  • Pacific Shores Newport, OR

    Drove down 101 to Newport today. Beautiful vistas along the coast as we headed south. We stopped at De Poe to watch the whales off shore. We are staying in a park high above the Pacific Ocean. Hiked down the hill to the beach with Zoey. She had a great time running on the beach. Dinner in Newport at the Clearwater restaurant!! Cold and windy here.Read more

  • Oregon Coast

    First we climbed up to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. During a ranger led walk, we were able to see common murre birds, harbor seals as well as cormorants and baby seagulls nesting on the rocks. After stopping for a bowl of chowder, we continued to Seal Rock and Cape Perpetua where we saw the water spraying from the Devil's Churn and the Great Horn as well as a panoramic view of the Oregon Coast from 800 feet above the water.Read more

  • Mount St. Helens

    With a free day between our two coast reservations, we decided to drive to Washington to see Mount St. Helens. It was interesting to see the effect of the volcano on the surrounding landscape. On the side of the mountain we saw a large herd of elk. On the way back, we stopped at the
    Fire Mountain Grill and had our first taste of elk burgers🤔!!

  • Astoria - Ft. Stevens

    We drove from Kelso, WA to Ft. Stevens State Park at the northern tip of Oregon at the mouth of the Columbia River. On the way we stopped in Astoria to see the Columbia River Maritime Museum. The museum showed how treacherous the Columbia River bar still is and how important it is to commerce. At Ft. Stevens we saw elk and deer on our way to the final spit of land at the mouth of the river. We also saw the wreck of the Peter Iredale on the beach.Read more
