    Day 21: Vänersborg & Vänersnäs

    September 17, 2024 in Sweden ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

Today was a great day! Despite the fog the whole time, everything gone right today: I set off quite late this morning and I set off despite the thick fog. (How good, because the fog stayed until about 4 p.m....) The water was calm, all around me was silence! The portage at the lock was OK. Only a very short way, but I had to empty the boat, lift it out of the water, climb over thick stones up the bank, cross the road on the wall once and put it back in on the other side. That took some time, but I had time. Then I went on to Vänersborg, the whole time without boat traffic, but I met a paddler in Vänersborg after I had squeezed under a bridge, that was being repaired. He got in the boat towards Trollhättan, I got out to look after a new power bank and went to a bakery. Then I paddled on, left Vänersborg behind me and headed out onto Lake Vänern, which is the biggest in the EU! Still in the fog, I felt my way between the many rocks and across the lake with the help of a compass, GPS and the vague outlines of the shore until I ended up here on this little island. This was more or less the route I had planned for today. No wind; great for paddling on the lake! I saw a nice island with places to sit and asked Rune from Vänerfiske if I could stay here. After a quick chat, he pointed me to the toilet and took a photo of me in the boat... This is another great place to spend the night and the sun even comes out towards the evening! What a other nice day! I can't believe my luck to be here with this incredible paddle-weather!Read more
