    Sparta/Mystra/Olympia

    October 6, 2021 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

From our balcony last night..just watching the people of Sparta.
    Another glorious ending last night.

At breakfast with the family ...then departed the City of Sparta and headed west only 10 miles to a mountain top. Called Mystra. Thus to a Byzantine fortress . Took the optional tour and thus beginning the most memorable hike of my life...scaled an ancient marble, rock, stone trail up 1 1/2 miles straight up a mountain...millions of stepping stones of raw marble, stone and fossil rock. and coming down close to 3 miles. We got lost on the way down and causing us to delay the tour!? Embarrassed but laughing we are. The onto the bus red faced but hungry,

Back to Sparta and visited a remarkable olive museum. Actually fascinating, that 100% of the olive tree is consumed. Truly the tree of life!. Unique museum and excellent exhibits.

Then back to Mystra for another local fabulous lunch. Greek salad, side of kalamata olives, and white wine...I Love Greek Food!!!!

Headed north and followed the Ionian Sea to the capital called Olympia. Made an outside the city stop at a gift shop, bought a few trinkets and came into town and settled in around 5. Dinner at 7:30, simple salad with roast pork and potato. Retired early, Then finished the evening with another Hoya cigar-red.
