    Day 1

    September 25, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Kaitlyn and Boston dropped me off at the airport after a quick lunch at Panera Bread. TSA pre-check is awesome. I have a couple hours to rest now. Lol. My plane leaves at 3:19.

  • Seattle Airport

    September 25, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

It took me forever to get through security here in Seattle. The Aer Lingus app doesn't work most of the time the girl at the baggage claim let me know. So frustrating. Thankfully I have TSA and it got me through security a little easier. The lines are so long.Read more

  • Paris!

    September 26, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Well the Uber was such a mess. I hopefully didn't get taken. I'll figure it out. The driver and I couldn't find each other and the airport people aren't that helpful to dummies. I'm on my way to the hotel and the traffic is crazy. I'm just glad to be almost there. The plane rides were all good.Read more

  • Versailles

    September 27, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Today was so lovely. I went to Versailles via the metro from Paris. It was such a fun experience. So glad I got to see a piece of history. Angela and I left early and caught a peek of Notre Dam. We will look a little closer tomorrow. Had a yummy dinner and off to bed. Here are some pics. I will have more later.Read more

  • Eiffel Tower, Notre Dam, Saint Michaels

    September 28, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

Today I scratched a few more items off my bucket list. We went to Notre Dam first thing this morning. There is so much renovations still going on. I doubt it will be done by the new opening in November. We could only see it from afar but it is big. I think I had it even bigger in my mind but it's not small.
Next we walked over to St. Michaels cathedral. It has the most stained glass windows I have ever seen. The windows tell the story of the creation of the world until Christ's return. It was beautiful stained glass and impressive ceilings. The church had beautiful carvings as well. At one time they were supposed to have Christ's crown of thorns, but I didn't see anything like it or the mention of it. I think there are many churches boasting these things.
We decided to continue to the Eiffel Tower via a water hop on hop off bus. It was so nice. We sailed down the Seine under Paris bridges. I saw the torch light commemorating Princess Di's death.² Past the Louve Museum. So much to see.
When we arrived at the Eiffel Tower there were several check points and a lot of waiting. We were able to go to the top. It was fantastic and the view of Paris made me realize how huge it is.

  • Leaving Paris

    September 29, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Our time was too short. I enjoyed one last breakfast with the ladies at our hotel and then we found a neat market. We were looking for an outdoor market but it's Sunday and we didn't have much time. Then off to the airport for Venice. Angela, Ronna and I. We left Starr and Melani having a good time in Paris.Read more

  • Goodbye Venice

    September 30, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today was a tour day. We were touring Saint Mark's Basillica and Doges Palace. The Basilica is known for entombing the bones of Mark from the New Testament. The army of Vienna stole them from the King of Constantinople to put in their cathedral and make him their patron Saint. It was a lot of beautiful mosaics. The Doges Palace was amazing. The painted walls, and ceilings were gorgeous.
After the tour we stopped at a shop and ordered a delicious sandwich and water to go and hopped on a gondola for a 30 minute ride. Nice ride but the water taxi we rented to take us to the train station gave us such a beautiful view of more of the city. We loved every part of our stay but the terrible beds at our hotel. Lol.

  • Hello Milan!

    September 30, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We arrived in Milan after a very nice train ride from Venice. It was on the Italo train and I loved how relaxing it was. We were so tired when we got to Hotel Canada in Milan. We asked for a place to eat and were given a restaraunt named Cantina Della Verta. Supposedly a 15 min walk. Wrong! We had to walk down dark alleys and the food was not good and hardly anything to it. We paid to much for to little. We just wanted bed. Thankful for a hot shower and a nice bed.Read more

  • Lake Como

    October 1, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Today was such a beautiful day. We had the most amazing tour of Lake Como. Our guide was such a sweet young woman named Antonella. There was a total of about 12 in our group. Such nice people. The Metro took is to Como city where we spent about 45 min looking at the old church there and picking out amazing pastries to eat on our boat tour. We took an open boat around the lake and stopped at two towns, Belagio and Verena. Lunch was in Belagio but we had delicious Gelato in Verena. By the time we were back in Milan it was dark and we were tired. Instead of having a big meal we found a little restaraunt called Ref. and had appetite. Which for me was wine and bruschetta. Time for sleep.Read more

  • Cinque Terre

    October 3, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

We left Milan and took a 3hour train to Monterossa which is one of the 5 cities on the cliffs along the Ligurian Sea in Italy. We are staying in Monterossa. I am not feeling good today. I made myself walk the Via Dell Amore this morning and came back to the Hotel Amici. It's a nice hotel with comfy beds and a beautiful view from the 4th floor roof. I'll post pics later. I'm resting today.Read more

  • Florence

    October 4, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Took the train from Monterossa to Florence. What a beautiful 3 hour train ride. I thought I would sleep but too much to see. I saw the top of the leaning tower of Pisa when the train stopped to pick up passengers. We didn't plan on seeing it, so that was neat. Like Hattie said it leans a little. Lol. We were tired when we got to our rooms. The hotel is on the 3rd floor of an old building. Tiny elevator, but nice rooms. It's called Hotel Dedo. We ate a quick dinner. I had hot minestrone soup that was probably from a can but it was hot and what I needed. We are going on our wine tour tomorrow so we are getting to bed. I will add pics.Read more

Today we go to the countryside to visit a couple wineries for some tastings and lunch. We are also going to the old city of San Gia? I am not feeling as good today but it is what it is. • Florence Museums

    October 6, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

A day on our own looking at all the sites. All the museums are free today. So we were able to walk in after a 30 minute wait for free. David is in the Acadamia Museum, and then there is the Uffizzi Gallery with so many masterpieces. The statue of the little brother and sister is so accurate even of our kids today. He's holding her doll and she is wanting it back. The round picture is a Michaelangelo of John the Baptist and his mother Elizabeth and his dad Zacharrius. Someone told us Michaelangelo was 14 when he painted it. We saw church after church. We walked into one but really not something I need to see. We ended our day with a nice appertiff and took pictures of the Arno River. It's a pretty dirty river but the pictures were lovely. Early to bed.Read more

  • Rome

    October 8, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We left Florence early this morning . We took a taxi to the train station because it was raining and pulling your suitcase over cobblestones and tiny crowded sidewalks is not fun. It rained really hard just as we got to our Hotel in Rome. So we had lunch in a very good restaraunt just around the corner from us. The bread was the best I've had. I had a zuppa soup that is nothing like ours. It was like brown beans and noodles combined. It had good flavor and with the bread was yummy. We went back to the Hotel and after a long nap we went to the rooftop garden to have appertiffs. The sunset was beautiful. The big dome in the sunset is St. Peter's Basillica next to the Vatican.Read more

  • The Colloseum and other sites!

    October 9, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Today we walked over 14 thousand steps after our taxi ride to the colosseum. Wow! It's big. I am glad I got to see inside. It is humbling thinking of the people sacrificed there, with 80,000 people cheering for your death. We went to the Roman forum next. Could not find where they held Apostle Paul and possibly Peter. It mentions the prison but we couldn't find it. Lunch was at Il Chianti. Delicious carbanera and wine. We marched across town to see Trevi Fountain after lunch and then 15 minutes later we saw the Spanish steps. Ronna and I walked to the top. It does have a view. Running out of time we were able to squeeze in the Parthenon. Another 15 minute walk. The Panthenon was more spectacular than I was expecting. I'm glad we bought tickets to go inside. It was only 5 euros. Grabbed an appertivo and then a taxi back to the room. Dinner next then to bed.Read more
