    December 28-February 2

    February 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

We ushered in the new year at our home base in Boring, Oregon and visited with family before departing for warmer weather on the 28th of January.
We boondocked in Coburg, spent a night at Rolling Hills Casino RV Park in Corning, continued south for a night at Harris Ranch in Coalinga then on to Morongo Casino's RV lot in Cabazon, CA where we dined on Bill's Pizza in Palm Springs. Today Randy battled gusty winds and dust as we traveled Interstate 10 East into Arizona.
We'll be at Mesa Spirit RV Resort for the next 13 nights.

We're glad to be where it's sunny and dry. 🌞🏜️
We wish our family and friends a happy, healthy and prosperous 2022!🎉

We've had a good week here at Mesa Spirit with daytime temperatures in the 60s and 70s. They have six pickleball courts that we've taken advantage of and plenty of roads to stroll and bike. The resort has 1667 sites...we've lost our way more than once.
Yesterday we cycled the Rio Salado Path along the Salt River. We started at Mesa Riverview Park, proceeded to Tempe Lake then paralleled Sky Harbor Airport with a stop at the Barrio Queen, at Tempe Market Place, for a delicious lunch on our way back to the car.
Today we played pickleball at Monte Vista RV Resort, with our friends Joy and Jim, before having lunch back at their place. Thanks for the hospitality!

We had a nice stay at Mesa Spirit. Met nice people on the pickleball courts, including Charles and Amparo. Monday we had Joy and Jim over for pickleball and lunch.
Tuesday we moved to ViewPoint RV and Golf Resort in east Mesa for a six night stay. Later that day we drove to Coons Bluff for a hike along the Salt River to view the Salt River Wild Horses. The horses were magnificent and we had beautiful views along the hike and during the drive to the River. https://saltriverwildhorsemanagementgroup.org/
Today we went to Tempe, strolled along Mill Ave then hiked up Tempe Butte to enjoy views of the city. https://www.tempetourism.com/things-to-do/downt…
Pickleball is good here at ViewPoint, with nine beautiful well kept courts and plenty of friendly Canadians to play with!

While in Mesa we took in their Farmer's Market, noshed on baos, croissant and empanadas and enjoyed the murals and bronze sculptures during our walking tour of downtown.
February 21st we headed an hour south to Fiesta Grande RV Resort in Casa Grande, AZ. It is like old home week, reuniting with friends we met during our nine week stay here last year. We've been relaxing and playing pickleball and will be here for two weeks.Read more

    April 17, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

We've had a good three weeks in Casa Grande. We spent the first week at Sundance 1 and last two at Fiesta Grande. The weather has been, for the most part, warm/hot and sunny during the day with cool mornings and nights, excellent pickleball and sleeping weather!
After 7 years of full time living in our RV Randy and I purchased our Snowbird home at Robson Ranch in Eloy, Arizona. Robson offered everything we wanted, and more, in an adult community and is located 15 minutes from Casa Grande, conveniently midway between Tucson and Phoenix. We celebrated Easter by taking possession of our new home. Tomorrow we'll park the motorhome in front of our bricks and sticks home to transfer "stuff" from our home on wheels. Our new home came almost completely furnished but we still have plenty to do to make it our own. https://www.robson.com/communities/robson-ranch…
And yes... we do plan on continuing our travels in the motorhome and our home base still is Boring, Oregon.
Hope you all had a wonderful Easter. 🐣🐰✝️

  • April 18-June 1

    June 1, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 91 °F

We've had a fantastic month and a half residing at our Arizona home. It was quite an adjustment getting used to roaming around 1650 square feet of space vs 400.
I spent many hours shopping for deals on furniture, housewares and decor on Nextdoor and Offerup and there were many to be found as this is a fairly transient community.
Randy finally got a Traeger Grill and has prepared some delicious meals on it.
We've been playing pickleball 5-6 times a week with a great bunch of people. The pickleball club here has over 500 members and 16 courts, with plans to add another 16.
We've also been taking evening bike rides around the community and have enjoyed seeing the desert blooms, cotton tails, quail, killdeer and other critters.
I received a beautiful Mother's Day flower arrangement from the kids and my in-laws. ❤️
May 19th Randy and I celebrated the 50th anniversary of our first date with a meal and cocktails at the Robson Grill.
Memorial Day we attended a "Tribute to the Fallen" at the Robson Ranch Ballpark. It was very moving.
The past three days we've been getting ready to begin our journey north. After many Google searches and picking of our neighbors brains we got our home ready to be vacant for six months in the desert. Technology is helpful as we'll be able to monitor/adjust the inside temperature as well as monitor the security system remotely.
With temperatures in the 90°-100°s we're looking forward to cooler weather and a greener landscape not to mention cold rather than warm water out of the faucets.
On our way north we'll spend some time in Fernley, NV,
    Tionesta, CA and Bend OR.

    June 6, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

We spent the first night of our northerly journey at Dazzo's Country Store and RV Park in Wikieup, AZ where we also dined on some excellent sandwiches at their Chicago Style Eatery.
We stopped for fuel in Amargossa, NV at the Area 51 Alien Center and Alien Cathouse Brothel!
Night two was in Beatty NV, where open range burros wander the streets.
Saturday we passed through old mining towns on our way to Fernley, NV where we'd booked three nights at the Desert Rose RV Park.
Yesterday we drove 40 minutes into Reno where we were treated to a delicious brunch at Liberty Food and Wine Exchange by my cousin Matthew and his wife Chay. https://www.libertyfoodandwine.com/
Afterwards they took us on a walking tour of downtown Reno. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
Today we spent the day in Virginia City. https://www.desertusa.com/cities/nv/nv_virginia… We strolled the main street, had lunch and dessert then visited the Fourth Ward School Museum. All in all a fantastic day. http://fourthwardschool.org/
The cooler temperatures here have been a welcome relief😎 from the triple digit desert heat.🥵

We shelled out $6.13/gal to top off our fuel tank in Fernley, NV... OUCH, then had a beautiful drive to Eagles Nest RV Park in Tionesta, CA.
    http://www.eaglesnestrvpark.com/
Wednesday 6/8 we toured Lava Caves National Monument where we hiked into the Sentinel Cave then the Big Painted Cave. Even though the caves were rated easy it was a bit of a scramble to the entrances but no stooping or crawling. We each had a headlamp and flashlight but it was still unnerving to imagine them going out, leaving us in total darkness. It was sad to see the devastation from the 2020 Caldwell and 2021 Antelope fires which burned the majority of the park.
    https://www.nps.gov/labe/index.htm
After our caving adventure we took a short hike at Captain Jack's Stronghold, site of the Modoc War. https://sierranevadageotourism.org/entries/capt…
We'd hope to visit Tulelake National Monument and the visitors center, but they were closed. https://www.nps.gov/tule/index.htm
We did enjoy an early dinner at Senor Tequila in downtown Tulelake.
I'd hoped to do some stargazing at Eagles Nest but, alas, the skies weren't cooperating.
We arrived at Bend/Sunriver Campground on Thursday 6/9 for a week stay.
Friday we headed to LaPine to play pickleball at Finley Butte Park. Dreena and Mike, friends from Fiesta Grande, reserved a court for us. The La Pine PB club has done an impressive job getting their courts developed, with adjacent seating, picnic area and dog park. https://lapinepickleball.com/
We were treated to some good, old Oregon rain Saturday & Sunday.
Monday we had our friends Jim, Joy and Jessica over for brunch before taking a long bike ride through Sunriver. It sure has grown since I vacationed with my family in the early '70s.
    https://www.sunriverresort.com/
Tuesday we had our rear AC replaced. Thank goodness it bit the dust when we were, for the most part, out of the sweltering heat. Nate from Fixin Trips Mobile RV Repair did a great job. https://www.fixintrips.com
Today we met Joy and Jim at Sunriver for pickleball.
Tomorrow we return to our home base in Boring, Oregon.

After a stop at Mt Hood Glass, for windshield chip repair on the motorhome and car, we had a beautiful drive to Neskowin Creek RV Resort. https://www.soundpacificrv.com/neskowin-creek
We spent our time hiking the trails adjoining the park as well as the Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge https://www.fws.gov/refuge/nestucca-Bay and the Kilchis Point Reserve https://www.tcpm.org/kilchis-point-reserve.html. We rode our bikes up and around Neskowin and took drives to Taft, Salishan, Depoe Bay, Cloverdale and Tillamook. We purchased some delicious cheese and ice cream at the Nestucca Bay Creamery https://nestuccabaycreamery.com/.
Last week Mark & Lynette and Angie & Jim joined us at Dorchester Park for pickleball. We also played multiple days with the Lincoln City Pickleball Club.
Today we hit the outlet mall and made a haul at Columbia Sportwear then had lunch at the Otis Cafe.
We've had a wonderful two weeks here at Neskowin. The cooler weather was a welcome relief from the heat wave that we'd been experiencing inland. It was nice to bake and cook without heating up the motorhome.
Tomorrow we travel down to Whaler's Rest RV and Camping Resort in South Beach.

We took in the local sights including the Historic Bayfront, Nye Beach, Rogue Brewery, Yaquina Head and a drive down to Waldport and Yachats.

We spent five days cleaning the motorhome outside and in, catching up with doctor and dental appointments, housekeeping at Uncle Kay's with Kelsie, Pegs and Jokers with Sharon & Larry and harvesting blackberries before traveling north to visit our friends, Gary and Carrie, at their home on Brown Island. Gary and Randy have been friends since childhood and I met Gary when I met Randy, over fifty years ago!
As always G & C were fantastic hosts. They kept us busy playing pickleball and board games, crabbing, driving around San Juan Island, dining on Gary's Greek and Mexican cuisine, and at Westcott Bay, relaxing in and out of their spa and watching the U S Open Tennis Match and Top Gun Maverick.
We head back to our home base in Boring today.

We transitioned from late summer into autumn during our two week stay in Seaside. The first week was sunny and warm. We were happy to be away from the smokey skies in the Portland Metro area.
Our days were spent playing pickleball and meeting new friends on the courts at the RV Resort and taking long bike rides on the Promenade and neighborhoods in Seaside.
We had our friends, Kathy & Renee, over for pickleball and happy hour. We met them several years ago in California and have kept in touch during our travels.
Carl and Val had us over for dinner and a tour of their beautiful new beach home.
During week two we spent an afternoon at Cannon Beach and, last Thursday, in Astoria where we dined on seafood at South Bay Wild Fish House
http://www.southbaywild.com/ then baked goods at Table 360 Bakery and Bistro https://table360bakery.com/
    Both were excellent.
As the weather became wetter and colder we sought indoor pickleball courts at Camp Rilea, the Sunset Empire Parks and Recs gym and the Lighthouse Resort Tennis Club. We found competitive play with friendly people at all three venues.

I shared an excellent lunch with Jan at Nicholas Lebanese restaurant in Gresham. https://www.nicholasrestaurant.com/
Sharon, Larry, Randy and I enjoyed a yummy rum cake and visit at our neighbor's, Kathy and Rick. We took a feast of Japanese food over to Kelly and Kyle's. We started our southerly journey with a stop at Speedco in Aurora, Oregon, for our motorhome's annual oil change, lube and change of filters. We'd planned on spending our first night in Canyonville, OR but decided to take advantage of an excellent weather window and pushed through to Corning, CA. The sunset was gorgeous crossing over the Siskiyous into California.
Night two was spent boondocking at Harris Ranch Inn in Coalinga, CA. The Inn was beautiful, fully decorated for Christmas. We took a long walk through the almond grove behind Harris Ranch while munching on almonds leftover from the harvest.
Sunday night we boondocked at Spotlight 29 Casino in Indio, CA where we enjoyed a delicious meal at the Taproom and a poor night's sleep next to the hwy and trucks in their parking lot.
We got an early start yesterday and arrived at our home after an easy five hour drive. We kept very busy yesterday and today transferring a remarkable amount of stuff from the motorhome to our winter home. It's amazing how much our tiny home holds!

We returned to Oregon just in time for the arctic blast of snow and freezing rain! 🥶Thank goodness it thawed in time to celebrate Christmas with the family.
Marcia, Randy and I hosted our annual Christmas Eve Dinner, a southern feast of ribs, corn pudding, mac and cheese and collard greens with Dave's famous carrot cake and Marcia's cookies for dessert. Uncle Dan provided his home for the festivities which his daughters, Sally, Diana and Michele, had beautifully decorated.
