  • Cactus Last day 😔

    13 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

Our time at Cactus has come to an end, it was hard pulling Brett away.

Brett said even the car didn’t want to leave, as the car battery died twice in the time we were packing up and then the brakes on the caravan were not working.

After hours of saying goodbye to all of the amazing people we meet we finally drove all the way to Penong 😂😂.

We called in for a drink at the pub and to let the boys play Buck Hunter. They have been dying to come into town and play the whole 6 weeks we have been here, so it was about time we brought them in for a game, especially since they set up a loom band shop and earned the money to play all by themselves.

  • Oh no! It happened again 😔

    15 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We were headed out of Streaky Bay when we notice a noise coming from the car 😣. We hadn’t even made it to the water tap!

A few minutes later, Brett inspects it, a phone call the the trusty mechanic brother and then the NRMA is called again. Once again we are not going anywhere for a few days. Back to the RV park for us.

Well, I guess there could be worse places to be stuck!

The week passed very quickly, getting school work done, walking into town, playing at the park and collecting sea glass at a hidden gem of a spot we stumbled upon because Brax stopped for a wee one day on our walk.

Meanwhile, poor Brett and Dad drove to Ceduna for car parts and worked on the car 😕.

    We finally made it !

Car is kind of fixed for now.

Boat is off, stunning sunset and I think Dad is getting his first fishing lesson 😂.

Apparently, having dad in the boat is worse then having the kids in the boat 😳😆.

They caught some fish, but they were not dinner worthy, better luck tomorrow.

  • Mum and Dad meet the Sea Lions of Baird

    20 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

Today, we got to take mum and dad to one of our favourite places in Australia, Baird Bay. To do one of our favourite activities, swim with the sea lions.

We pulled up and were worried the sea lions had moved somewhere warmer for the winter, because at first we could not see any, we all started to get a bit worried. Then we spotted two playing in the shallows, phew! we made our way over. Mum was the first in, it did not take long for to more came to play, she was surrounded by at least six, including a big male. Dad was quick on mum’s tail getting some footage on their go pro.

After about 45min of sea lion fun we were all freezing 🥶.

The kids wanted to film Nan getting back in the boat, but we’re not allowed 😂😂.

It was time to get changed and sit in the sun for a while.

Once we defrosted, it was time for part 2 of Brett’s Adventures. The boat tour was now headed over to look for dolphins. We found them, another magical moment, there was so many, at least 80 maybe more, jumping, feeding and playing. Lachlan kept calling out and pointing out all the babies. The dolphins especially liked it when Brett speed the boat up and raced them.

I am so glad we ( the car) finally made it here to take mum and dad out to the sea lions and dolphins.

    Another successful Brett’s Adventure.

Video to come, fixing the car has taken priority over all video making at this current stage 😕.

    21 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

This morning we got up and went for a drive along the beach and up along the sea cliffs. Dad got to get some real 4WDing action done in his car, unfortunately the video just doesn’t do it justice.

The boys went fishing and got some salmon for something different. We weren’t sure about this whole salmon thing! But all the other campers were raving about it, so we gave it a go and it is actually quite nice.

  • What a day!

    23 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

First early start we have had in a while!

The car and van got a well deserved tub a Kimba and a quick breakfast stop at the freshly painted Big Galah.

Then, it was onto Whyalla for the long awaited snorkel with the giant cuttlefish 🤗.

We also didn’t want to miss seeing the spectacular Whyalla Jetty at night, and with rain predicted tomorrow we thought we better squeeze that in too!

All three boys are now snoring in their beds 😂.

  • Cuttlefish Porno

    23 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

On the drive out to the cuttlefish dive site, we all tuned into some you tube shows about the giant cuttlefish, some were more R rated than others. With the kids now having a full understating of the intermit sex life of a cuttlefish, we were ready to snorkel with them.

We picked a great day to head out, there was little to no wind, no current and the sea was smooth. We were all excited. There was even dolphins.

It was seconds after being in the water that Brett spotted the first one. I was a bit upset as I still couldn’t see it. Then once you saw one, you couldn’t stop seeing them, they were everywhere and they were doing the deed! At first the kids thought they were eating each other, but Brax was pretty quick to work out what was going on 😂, and he was more than happy to fill Lachlan in.

They really are masters of camouflage, there were ones that looked like the rocks, ones that looked like coral or seaweed, they were changing colours before our eyes, even changing the texture of their skin from smooth to having bumps or spikes. It was truly an amazing experience.

  • Hello NSW

    27 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Dipped our toes back in NSW for an hour this morning, after not being in our home state for 15 months.

It was rainy and miserable, so we got out as quick as we could 😂😂.

It’s always fun when some has a gun license and it needs renewing and the only way to do it is to drive 4.5hours to Broken Hill to a NSW Service Centre and get your photo taken! Thanks Brett.

As you can see, I was great company 😴😴😴

What a day, left at 3.30am home at 3.30pm!

  • Coober Pedy

    29 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We pulled into Coober Pedy and it was bucketing down, so no exploring for us today. The red dirt quickly turned into red mud, that made a thick slick layer on your shoes if you had to leave the van for any reason, which we avoided at all costs!

Over night, gale force winds kicked in, this was good for drying out the ground, but made us feel a little queasy from all the rocking the caravan was doing.

Luckily, the mine tour was underground and out of the wind.

Tom’s mine tour, what a great experience. Lachie has been dying to get some mining done. On the tour the guide kept the adults busy with information and kept kids busy mining for opals. He even hid one very special one worth $400, Brax the lucky duck found it and got to keep it.

After the tour, they valued the kids opal findings, Lachlan had found 2 good ones, if he polishes them up they will be worth about $300. They offered to buy them off him, but he chose to keep them.

After they found out how interested the kids were in mining and stones they gave them some other fossils to clean up and some polished sandstone to engrave. They were so generous and great with the kids.

    31 mai 2022, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

This morning we took a drive out to The Breakaways.

Out here we got to see a range of different scenery, there was escarpments, the Dingo fence which stretches 5300km across three states and then onto the moon scape which promised fossilised shells and bottomless cracks, let’s just say I was a little disappointed with the moon scape 😕.

Brett went to go on one of his Brett’s adventures up one of the mountains, he was on his way with the kids when I radioed him with the information that if he gets caught it is a $50000 fine and 6 months in jail each! He decided to come back! I was glad!

This was an interesting dugout. It was a tip from a fellow traveller Ken, so we went and checked it out.

The story goes that Harry was a crocodile hunter in the NT and was run out of town with his wife, so he came and settled in Coober Pedy and made the crocodile nest to lour in the backpackers. It is draped with his ‘trophies’.En savoir plus

It’s wet and it is cold, not at all what I was expecting when we hit the NT!

We crossed the border and ate breakfast in the Northern Territory. We then braved the rain and cold for a photo with the sign.

Next up, it was time for the first big thing in the NT, The Big XXXX Can. We stopped in at the first and last pub in the NT for a photo. Yep, it was still raining.

And……. It was still raining, after 500kms
of driving we stopped just outside Curtain Springs for the night! When we got out of the car it was a lovely 9 degrees outside 😕🥶🥶🥶.

Brax was first to spot Uluṟu through the rain and the thick fog and it was magnificent.

Not everyone gets the see it rain on the rock, but we did! There were little waterfalls running down the sides making pools at the bottom and the water was so clear.

But I am also glad we have time to stay and see it when the sun is out (hopefully tomorrow 😆).

  • Uluru Sunrise

    3 juin 2022, Australie ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

Our first sunrise at Uluru, we were all up early and pumped, we get to the gate and there is a line up! I triple checked that the gates opened at 6am, but at 6.20 we were all still sitting in line waiting. Apparently the opening time has changed to 6.30am, but we just think the ranger was running late and used that as her excuse. Whist we were waiting we could see glimpses of stunning colour to our left! Finally the gate opened, so we flew out to the sunrise spot. There were people everywhere, but we found a spot down the bottom to set up, people saw us go down the bottom instead of to the lookout and then followed us, we we not alone for long. Although I felt we had missed the best colours it was still beautiful. Luckily we are coming back tomorrow.

After sunrise we enjoyed a yummy bacon and cheese bread and hot cuppas to help defrost us.

Then it was off to Kata Tjuta

We saw were the famous naked shot of Uncle Shaun was taken, I tried to convince all three of my boys to take their gear of and reenact it but they complained about the cold, shrinkage, and the amount of people on the track who would see 🙄. Soft the lot of them! So only clothes on pics from us.

We set up with nibbles and hot drinks, it was perfect with the cars backed in so we could eat and make hot drinks as the sun set. ( it was freezing )

Uluru went from brown to an amazing glowing orange. We stayed until the sun had set and the stars and the moon were out.

I tried for a starry night shot, but other cars driving past with their headlights on meant it wasn’t going to happen, but the memory is there.

The rim walk, look out and Garden of Eden and it did not disappoint. It was spectacular. The rock formations were so interesting, reminding me of the Bungle Bungles, but with a lot more ‘beehives’.

It was a 7km round trip taking us just on 3 hours.
