  • Boys Fishing Mission

    November 1, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

    Winners are Grinners!
Ben, Odie and I finally made it out to the Franklin Islands for a fish on the big boat. We left late arvo and camped out so we could fish the morning session before Ben had to be back for a lunchtime meeting.
We had a ball, we caught big barracudas, heaps of small mouth nannygai and a huge cobia. Safe to say fish is on the menu again 😂
The water was beautiful, warm and clear so we had plenty of swims and even went shell collecting on the beach shhh 🤫 don’t tell Lauren.
The funniest thing that happened was oldie decided at midnight after we had gone to bed that he needed to poo, so in the dark and at low tide we navigated the reef and bommies to shore where Ben went for a midnight swim helping Odie. All’s good that ends well and Odie felt much better but was not aloud any more food for the rest of the trip 😂
At home we filleted the fish and smoked some cobia and nannygai’s over the fire for 4 hours using mango wood shavings from cutting the mango logs up with the chainsaw. Man they were tasty and the best was the cobia rib section we picked at cold the next day with an icy cold beer 🍺
    Yum Yum Yum!

  • Near death experience

    November 7, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

There was tears (Lachlan) and there was sweat, a lot of sweat (everyone), but we persevered and we made it to the peak of Walsh’s Pyramid.

It was an extremely steep climb. Up, up, up 922m. All the zig zagging increased the distance to 3.2kms to reach the peak. We smashed it in 2.5 hours.

I don’t know what was worse, the climb up or trying not to slip down all the rocks on the way back.

  • Quick fishin mission

    November 9, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

The kids were a bit upset when Brett went fishing without them, so today was their turn.

An early start to get the most of the day. As we drove out at the crack of dawn, we could see rain on the islands and then a magnificent rainbow.

The kids got some good fish, but we didn’t keep any as the freezer is already full of fish.

  • Mirriwinni Moto Track

    November 11, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

A morning ride to try and beat the heat!

Lachie had his first big stack, flipping over the handle bars and landing head first on the ground with the bike on top. He was fine just a few scrapes, but the bike needed a bit of fixing. A few adjustments by Brett and Brax was off, Lachie was more upset over wrecking the bike than his injuries.Read more

  • Bust ups everywhere

    November 15, 2023, Great Barrier Reef ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

It’s getting close to the time where we need to pack up and start to head home. There is lots of mixed emotions at the moment.

So, there was no better way to spend a few days together than out on the boat, hanging around the Franklin Islands.

On the way out, there was birdnadoos and fish bust ups everywhere.

We spent the afternoon chasing fish. Brett landed 2 nice ones, everyone caught a shark and the kids just missed getting a few big ones in.

Everyone was hot from fishing, so we pulled up for a swim and walk around the island. There is not many places in the world where I can fill a bucket with amazing shells in under 15min. I told my self no more shells on this trip, but then I thought, what if I am never back here. So I got a few just incase.

That night, when we turned the lights on there was zoo plankton everywhere and these tiny jelly fish! Brett and I started to get worried, they looked just like irukandji. After a lot of googling we discovered they were copula. The best part of the night was the bioluminescence. It was so pretty, like blue fireflies under the water. The more you moved the water the more you could see. Unfortunately, after a tremendous effort it would not show up on the camera 😢.

  • Sudbury Sand Cay

    November 16, 2023, Great Barrier Reef ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We love exploring new places, today the water was smooth, so we drove out to Sudbury Reef and Sudbury Sand Cay.

And wow, oh wow! We thought we were back in the Whitsundays.

The water was so blue and unbelievably clear we could barely wait for the boat to stop before we all jumped in.

A sand island in the middle of the reef, what a place.

  • Celebrating Braxy, Day 1

    November 18, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

What a way to celebrate your last traveling birthday, with good food and great friends.

Brax finally got his dream birthday gift, a VR headset! He was so excited he was ready to give up the rest of the days activities and stay home to use it.

Lucky he didn’t because Ben, Jared, Peyton and Eve all came along to a gel blaster bunker session. It was fun, it was loud and it left a sting. Everyone had so much fun hiding, playing war games and shooting the shit out of each other.

It was very sweaty business, so ice cream, drinks and nibbles in the park was needed to cool down.

The fun did not stop there, everyone headed back to Jared’s for more food, more drinks and of course some VR fun.

    One spoilt birthday monkey!

  • Island Celebrations

    November 19, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

The birthday fun did not stop at gel blasting, but went on all weekend.

Brax got to spend his birthday day chilling on the Franklin Islands.

Uncle Ben always has the goods, this time he brought out tubes and a massive blow up party raft.

Once set up, we swam, drank coconuts and relaxed with a huge nibble platter on the raft.

The day flew by, but before we could leave the kids got out the detergent! The relaxation raft had turned into a giant jumping castle slip and slide.

The kids ran, jumped, slipped and slided the afternoon away.

The only way to finish off a Sunday in Babinda is with Ezzy’s Pizza, which also happens to be Brax’s fave. So pizza for dinner it was!

    Birthday weekend ✅

Happy Birthday Braxy! Can’t believe you are 12 now!

  • Giant clam!!

    November 21, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

This year I wanted to get a giant clam. When we were here last year, Jared got a beauty and I wanted one just like it.

We had been out to the island a few times and the tides were not right to get into the bay where the giant clams lived.

On our last island visit, I was desperate to get one. Jared said “ don’t worry we will get you one”.

Jared went out for a spear, when he started signaling. I knew he had found one. Brett took the boat out, Jared tied rope around the clam and we hoisted it in. It was a ripper, and to top it off Jared had found one with both halves 🤗🤗.

We took it back and I couldn’t wait to clean it up. It went from a slimy green, coral covered mess to a nice clean white.

I can’t wait to get it on display when I get back home.

  • Babinda, Last Days 😢

    November 25, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

It getting real, our time at Babinda is almost up, but the adventures have not stopped.

Lots of mixed emotions, Brett and I are spending more time checking out local real estate, the kids keep asking to stay, Lachlan asked why we had to go back to the coast to work and get money and why we just couldn’t work here??! We all love our life at Babinda.

The kids confidence has soared, they have learnt an abundance of skills including driving numerous vehicles.

Watching Lachie grab the excavator, start it, drive it down the drive way, fill the bucket with wood, reverse back up the drive way, take wood to destination, tip it out and then park it back where it belongs with out even blinking and eye! Confident and proud. So many new and special experiences learnt here, thanks to Jared who takes the time to teach the boys these skills that they will have with them for life.

On the road again and finding new spots to explore.

On the way out to Cape Hillsborough we took a wrong turn and discovered a lovely farm pizza place. After setting up, swimming, checking out the beach, playing chess and table tennis we headed in for pizza.

Whist having pizza we heard about a Christmas house which was having its opening night, so we stopped in and checked it out, getting into the Christmas spirit.

  • Cape Hillsborough Kangaroos

    December 2, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

We may not have seen the kangaroos on the beach at Lucky Bay WA, but we found them here!

When we arrived we went for a wander along the beach, and I said to Brett I wonder what the appeal is for the kangaroos? There was no grass on the beach or anything to eat, but we all got up at 5am to see if the kangaroos had come to the beach.

When we arrived we realised why the kangaroos were there! There was a ranger who had put little piles of food out for them 🤣🤣. No wonder they liked to come to the beach every morning.

Anyway, it was still great to see the kangaroos on the breach and snap some pics.

  • Yeppoon

    December 3, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

The free camp at Rockhampton was hot! So we quickly unhitched and headed to Yeppoon.

Thankfully, there was a lovely sea side breeze to cool us down.

We finally got to visit Shell World. I thought I would have shell envy, but after pointing out all the shells in the cabinets that I have found I was feeling pretty good. I did get some good display ideas, Brett is going to be a busy boy when he gets home.

Then finally a skate park for the kids. I don’t know how the kids keep wanting to skate in this heat, luckily there was an infinity pool to cool off in.

After a nap by the pool we woke up to dark skies. On the way home we got a storm and then a double rainbow.
