Ogden and First night with trailers

    27. April 2024 in den USA ⋅ ☁️ 46 °F

Bevis and I left on Thursday, stopped in Reno to see Henselman. Drove to Elko and stayed the night at South Fork Reservoir. It was about 30 min south of Elko. It’s a state park. Very few people there. Rained most of the night. Drove on to Ogden. We spent the rest of Friday, Saturday and until Sunday at 3 packing. We have two enclosed trailers and one flat trailer that has the Prius.
We drove to Lave Hot Springs Idaho which is up I15. Cute small town all focus on the hot springs. There is a large public hot springs that costs $10 that we went to that evening. They have a several pools all at different temperatures. We slept in the empty parking lot at the water park that is closed for the season. It’s supposed to be about 35 degrees. John and Sharon are in the camper and Bevis and I are in the back of his pick up. The adventure begins.

  • Conrad to Jasper

    30. April 2024 in Kanada ⋅ ☁️ 36 °F

Had coffee and cereal at Conrad and left about 7:00. Crossed border at Sweetgrass Montana. Bought booze at duty free shop. Bought groceries n Lethbridge. A lot of weather, snow and rain and some sun. Bushell took wrong turn at Calgary and had to double back. Bevis and I had lunch at AandW waiting for Bushell. Drove to Banff, stopped at Lake Luisse. I was expecting the turquoise colored water but found white snow. The lake was frozen. It was very cool to see. Stopped half way to Jasper for a cocktail and snacks. Continued to Jasper for gas and several Elk sittings. Spent the night about 25 miles west headed to Prince George down a dirt road next to a beautiful lake. Had scallops and rice for a late dinner.Weiterlesen

  • Jasper to Pine River site

    1. Mai 2024 in Kanada ⋅ ☁️ 27 °F

Left Jasper about 7. Noisy night with highway and train noise. Weather is getting better and was mostly sunny. Mouse, Bears, elk and deer sightings next to the road. Stopped at Robson visitor center but it was closed. Drove to Prince George for a Costco stop. Headed towards Dawson City. Had lunch on the road. Sharon made sandwiches for us.

We stopped for a break and by chance there was a kind of abandoned work camp. Junk everywhere so we explored it. Bushell found stuff he had to have so we added to all the stuff we are hauling.

We bypassed Dawson and started looking for a place to sleep. Went down a dirt road looking for a lake and I guy said the lake was one more road over. We went down that road but the guy, Nester, came and found us and told us about a better spot. Really nice guy and this spot is great. Quiet, next to the Pine river. We had a fire and ate noodles for dinner.

  • Pine River to Laird Hot Springs

    2. Mai 2024 in Kanada ⋅ ☁️ 36 °F

When we got up, Bevis and I had a nice walk down the railroad tracks to a bridge over the river. John had breakfast ready when we got back. Left about 8. Drove to Fort St John’s for gas and some groceries. Had lunch at Fort Nelson. That stretch of road is pretty uneventful. A lot of oil field activities. Flat and wide open but still pretty. Then we got into the mountains. Beautiful views and lakes. Stone Mountain Proventional park, great hiking area in the summer, with Summit Lake, which was frozen over. Then Muncho Lake, beautiful lake and very large. Saw caribou, bears , moose and elk. Stayed in Liard Hot Springs campground. $25 a night. Went to the hot springs that night. Crazy lady asking everyone if they farted.Weiterlesen

  • Liard to Continental Divide MP 1124

Got up and had coffee and then went to the hot springs. Left camp about 11. Buffalos and bald eagles were out and about. Stopped in Watson lake. Pretty unattractive town. Got gas. Drove another 2 hours to a big turn out next to the road and by a river. It was about 2 km east of Swift River. Had salmon dip and a beer and then pesto and noodles. Bushell took out his drone and got it flying when it decided to to take off and never come back. We could hear it in the distance but it finally disappeared. Had a fire and some whiskey to morn the passing. Weather was great today. Sunny and high 50s. Low will be low 30s, but we think it was about 26 last night. The double sleeping bags works perfect. Bevis heard wolves howling last night. The Bushell’s found out they had a visitor that has traveled with them from Utah. We have named the mouse BV.Weiterlesen

Bevis and I had to find a ford dealer to fix my fob. We ran into a celebration of a cannabis store giving away free hot dogs and cookies so we took advantage. Made camp at Kluane lake. Beautiful spot with mountains near by and a huge lake. Our camp was next to the lake. Had a fire. Bushell make a great dinner, steaks, roasted veggies and potatoes.Weiterlesen

    10. Mai 2024 in den USA ⋅ ☁️ 36 °F

Got up and made coffee/tea. Headed out around 7:30 after a walk along an old road. Went thru the border around noon and had lunch in a restaurant stop. Stopped in Burwash Landing, a very small town because we were both tired. Drove on to Haines Junction and got gas and then drove another hour and found an old gravel pit to camp in. Had a fire and another REI freeze dried dinner. Hiked around and found a porcupine in a tree. We checked each other out for a while and then left her alone.Weiterlesen

  • West of Whitehorse to Dease Lake

    11. Mai 2024 in Kanada ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

We hiked up the hill behind our camp site. Had a great view of the area. We ran into a local doing the same hike. Had a nice chat about the area. After leaving we heard on the radio that the Alcan was closed at Fort Nelson and that all cell service and the internet was down because of the fire. Most gas stations were not able to pump gas because of the down internet but we found one that did. We were driving down the Cassiar so the road closure was not an issue.
Another long day of driving. Got gas at the turn off to hi way 37. We were looking for a camping site that Bushell suggested but could find it but found a great spot right on the lake. Another gravel pit but the road took us to a spot on the lake. The lake still had a lot of ice on it but it was melting.
We saw a number of bears on the drive down 37 plus some caribou and saw a moose on our walk this morning. Bevis decided not to sleep in the tent because of all the bears we saw.

We looked at taking a ferry from Prince Ruport but none were leaving at a good time. Drove to Prince George and then went south on 97 towards Williams Lake. We found a dirt road looking for a camp site and drive about 2-3 miles before we found this great spot overlooking the Fraser. Had a fire and finished the REI dinners.Weiterlesen

  • Fraser River to Vancouver

    14. Mai 2024 in Kanada ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

Well, we decided we were done with camping and smelling of camp fires so we drove to Vancouver and got ourselves an Airbnb. The drive on Hiway 1 was beautiful. It follows the Fraser river with small towns along the way. The traffic got busier as the got closer to Vancouver. We arrived about 5. The Airbnb is in downtown on Burrard St. parking is tough. We had one spot in the building but it was a pain parking the big pu and John had a hard time finding a public parking spot. The place is great. It’s on the 11 floor so it has a great view and we are in the middle of downtown. Went to Good Co for a drink and watch Vancouver play. Walked to Robson square and bought a felafel.Weiterlesen

Another beer at a brewery and then walked to Davie street which had a lot of restaurants. We ate at a Nepal restaurant which was greatWeiterlesen
