  • Day 4: Bratislava

    17 Ekim 2023, Slovakya ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

No words can describe the beauty of the nature in the surroundings of Bratislava. My first stop today was at the botanical garden, which has been just awesome; the autumn colours of the trees, the lights, the rose garden,... What an atmosphere!

After a short visit of the castle I decided to explore the surroundings of Bratislava and just 15 minutes by bus later I found myself in the middle of a forest.

What an unexpected day full of nature and autumn vibes!

  • Day 8: Ljubljana

    21–23 Eki 2023, Slovenya ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

One complete week on tour is over. Today, I took the bus from Budapest to Ljubljana. Due to the reimposed border control between Hungary and Slowenia, as well as other traffic jams, we reached Ljubljana only by 5:30 PM. Nevertheless, I couldn't resist strolling around a bit in the city and I already like the vibes of the city!!! Looking forward for continuation tomorrow!Okumaya devam et

  • Day 10: Zagreb

    23–24 Eki 2023, Hırvatistan ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

This morning, I took the bus from Ljubljana to Zagreb. Thanks to an amazing traffic situation, the bus already arrived by noon in Zagreb. Therefore, I had the whole afternoon to explore Croatia's capital. The city centre is vibrant and interesting. However, I'm not sure if it's just bad luck or already off season, bit most of the points of interest have been closed, such as different museums, the botanical gardens and a tower. Nevertheless, strolling around the city has been nice too!Okumaya devam et

  • Day 11: Split

    24–27 Eki 2023, Hırvatistan ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

What a feeling: In 2021, I've been for 6 month every Friday in Split with MSC Magnifica. I did all almost excursions which we offered, most of them for translations. Means, I'd say I know the city, it's surroundings and the history pretty well, but due to the pandemic, I never could go out from the ship by myself.
Today, I finally could explore the beautiful heart of Split on my own!!

  • Day 12: Split

    25 Ekim 2023, Hırvatistan ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Today, I explored the surroundings of Split by foot. As the weather has been much better than forecasted, I stopped first at the Kasjuni Beach. Than, I've been hiking around the Marjan Hill. Every corner offered a new breathtaking view on the Dalmatian coastline. The last point in today's program has been another stroll around the Diocletian's Palace.Okumaya devam et

  • Day 13: Bosnia & Herzegovina

    26 Ekim 2023, Bosna Hersek ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

What a beautiful day! I decided to go on an organized excursion to Mostar and the Kravica Waterfalls in Bosnia & Herzegovina today. The weather forecast has been very bad but the luck was on our side with no rain and even some sun! The day has been a full success! Apart from the landscape, the highlight of the day has definitely been the Bosnian Lunch!Okumaya devam et

  • Day 14: Stopover in Dubrovnik

    27 Ekim 2023, Hırvatistan ⋅ 🌧 21 °C

Dubrovnik is probably one of the cruise ports about which the most has been discussed recently. Today, I've taken the bus from Split to Dubrovnik and before I will continue my trip today to Kotor, I had a couple of hours to visit Dubrovnik on my own. 3 ships have been in the port and the city already felt very overcrowded. The locals take advantage of the tourism and the prices are incredibly high. For example the ticket for the visit of the city wall costs 35 EUR per person!

Very frankly, I believe the city definitely lost its charm due to the tourism, unfortunately. I'm grateful for the impressions gained today but happy also to continue my journey without staying longer.

  • Day 15: Kotor

    27–29 Eki 2023, Karadağ ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Yesterday, I arrived late in the evening in Kotor. Already in the darkness I've been positively surprised by the historical city center. But what I saw today, after having climbed the so called "ladder of Kotor", left me speechless. Neither pictures nor words can describe the beauty of the Kotor Bay, the fjord, and how it's surrounded by mountains.

The way up has been pretty steep, but at every corner, I wanted to stop to take another picture. After around half an hour uphill, a rain shower caught me, however, I was lucky enough to arrive exactly in that moment at a roof of the ruins. Some minutes later, it has been over already and to the top, it has been just a couple of steps more. The view has been simply awesome and breathtaking!!

  • Day 16: Durrës

    29–31 Eki 2023, Arnavutluk ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Even though, the bus ride today from Kotor to Durrës took "only" 8 hours, patience was asked. There has been almost no highway and the bus has been completely full. Also the border crossing between Montenegro and Albania took a while, as the entire bus needed to show the passport at both customs.

After having checked in at the hostel, I went out to check the neighborhood. I really struggle to describe the vibes of Durrës. For sure, I arrived in the heart of the Balkan and I'm getting closer to the Orient. The atmosphere, without judgement, changed compared to the countries I've visited in the last weeks. Tradition and culture are clashing with modernity and development, that's the feeling I have so far. Let's see, which other impressions I'll gain tomorrow of Durrës...

  • Day 17: Durrës

    30 Ekim 2023, Arnavutluk ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Well, today I left the hostel with the intention of having a relaxing beach. I was walking for around 40 min until I arrived at the famous Durrës Beach. I believe, a storm recently came in here and brought a lot of seaweed and mudd. As the season anyway is already over, the beach hasn't been cleared at all from that and also the promenade seemed to be abandoned already. Just a couple of coffee shops and very few hotels still were open. Therefore, it wasn't worth it staying there and I made my way back to the city center. From there, I tried my luck in the opposite direction. The water already looked much cleaner and clearer and finally I found a spot at the beach!

The highlight of the day, however, has been definitely the sunset...

  • Day 18: Skopje

    31 Eki–3 Kas 2023, Kuzey Makedonya ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Today's bus ride from Durrës to Skopje has been pretty long with almost 9 hours. As there was almost no highway, the view on the landscape has been great. The border between Albania and North Macedonia we've crossed somewhere in nowhere on a hill. Directly afterwards, we've been passing through a forest and more hills. Just about an hour before Skopje, we took the highway. It has been a long day but the landscape has been worth it!Okumaya devam et

  • Day 19: Skopje

    1 Kasım 2023, Kuzey Makedonya ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Today, I've been exploring the city center of Skopje. As Skopje is not very known for city trips, I didn't have an idea what to expect from this city, honestly. But I was wrong; my (barely existing) expectations definitely have been exceeded!

I started my day with the visit of the Old Bazar, which completely surprised me. This quarter has so many things to offer, such as cozy cafés, restaurants and shops. Strolling through the alleys was definitely fun!

My second stop today has been the Fortress of Skopje, just a couple of minutes away from the Bazar. The entrance to the fortress has been free of charge, the only thing was, that it has been "at own risk", as it was written...

As last part of the day, I passed at the modern city center, where also many shops are located.

I need to admit, that I had certain concerns about North Macedonia before I came. After todays experience, I'm convinced from the opposite. The locals are very friendly, starting conversations just on the street and letting you feel welcomed in their country.
Someone even asked my "why are you visiting Macedonia?". Well, from tourism aspect, the country is still developing but exactly that's the charm of it. Tomorrow I'll visit the country side and I'm already curious about seeing more of North Macedonia!

  • Day 20: Surroundings of Skopje

    2 Kasım 2023, Kuzey Makedonya ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Today, I did an organized trip to the countryside of Skopje / Macedonia. The entire group has been only 7 people, what reflects the number of tourists around...

The first stop of the tour has been at the Matka Canyon, where we've done a boat ride further into the canyon and to a cave. The landscape has been very beautiful!

The second part of the tour went up first by car than by cable car to the top of Vodno Mountain, just behind Skopje. Also here, the view has been worth it!

  • Day 21: Istanbul

    3–7 Kas 2023, Türkiye ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Today, I took a flight from Skopje to Istanbul (Sabiha Gökçen International Airport). I admit, I haven't been that well prepared as I'm used to be, when I arrive in a new city. The airport is located on the asian side of Istanbul, therefore it's quite a distance to arrive at the European side. Nevertheless, I found a bus which brought me for 3 EUR to the city center, from where I could take the metro. Everything went unexpected smoothly and so I arrived before sunset in the hotel.

So I decided to go straight out again and explore the neighborhood. It ended in a walk of 2.5 hours, passing by the Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque and I even caught a view on the Bosporus bridge. What an incredible city!

  • Day 23: Istanbul

    5 Kasım 2023, Türkiye ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Today, I've got already two friends and locals as guides (thanks a lot again!!!). We started with an amazingly delicious Turkish breakfast and continued with some Turkish coffee and ended with a chicken wrap. Along the way, we made another 16km by walking through this astonishing city!
I need to admit, I definitely fell in love with some Turkish delights 😋

  • Day 24: Istanbul

    6 Kasım 2023, Türkiye ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

My last day in Istanbul is already almost over. In the morning, I finally managed to enter the Cysterna Baziliki without making a line. The entrance fee of converted almost 15 EUR have been worth it! The atmosphere down there with the columns, the water, lights and it's reflection is impossible to describe.
After that, I collected my backpack at the hotel and took another Turkish Breakfast.

The adventurous part of the day started right after: The transfer to my hotel for tonight, close by the airport, by public bus - 30 km to go! Surprisingly fast I had found a bus which went in the right direction. The bus has been fully packed with people. As I didn't understand anything, I was continuously checking on Google maps, where I was. Finally, I arrived at the station, where I needed to change the bus. If I wouldn't have had arrived already there, I would never have found the station I guess. Nevertheless, the next bus came right on time. Even that one was completely full of people, but after overall 2.5 hours of bus ride (standing with my backpack of course) I arrived at my destination of today.

  • Day 25: Flight to Thailand

    7 Kasım 2023, Katar ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Byebye Europe! With the arrival in Istanbul, I literally reached the connection point between Europe and Asia. Therefore, this part of my journey is over and it's time for new adventures in Asia.
My next destination is.... Thailand 🇹🇭😍

In this very moment, I had left Istanbul already a while ago. My flight to Doha took place without any particularities (apart from an amazing sunset!!!). Now I have a 14-hours layover at the Doha International Airport until the departure of my next flight to Phuket.

And there's even more exciting news: For the next weeks I'll not be traveling solo anymore! 😊 Even though, I love traveling solo, doing whatever and whenever I want, I'm looking forward for some company on my path through Southeast Asia!
