    Europe: A month until takeoff!

    2023年8月8日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

At this moment, in one month, we will have just taken off from Tullamarine in the awakening of Spring 🌼 in the Southern Hemisphere to the tail end of one of the most scorching 🥵 European Summer ☀️ seasons on record!

For the first time ever, I will experience a holiday that has essentially been almost completely planned by someone else… It has been strange not having to research hotels 🏨 transportation and flights along with dates and coordinating numerous connections. This has all been done by TripADeal. I am hoping that I enjoy it as much…

If the itinerary is anything to go by, it would seem unlikely not to be enjoyable and exciting! Arriving in Rome, followed by the Amalfi coast, then across to Puglia. Then joining a MSC Cruise 🚢 which travels around the Adriatic Sea to wondrous ports like Montenegro, Corfu, Dubrovnik & Zakynthos 🇮🇹 🇬🇷 🇲🇪 🇭🇷

    Bring it on..! ✈️🚢☀️🕺🏼🧳🍹🚌🚆🗺️

  • Up, Up & Away (With a 43kmh tailwind!)

    2023年9月8日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌬 8 °C

As the Melbourne wind 💨 howls at
43 kilometres an hour and the rain 🌧️ buckets down with a top of 12° (feels like 3° ) we are dreaming of a place where the sun ☀️ is shining, it is 30+ degrees and a 5km wind gently caresses us… Italy 🇮🇹 here we come!

Bags are packed, hair is cut (…too short: you get what you pay for!) and anticipation is excitably high 🤩

Airport security was the ‘shit-show’ it always tends to be: belts off, don’t stack trays, phones 📱 out, back n forth, this n that, coats 🧥 off, water 💧 emptied at the last minute… Even if you’re a seasoned traveler this can unnerve you… Two delectable wines 🍷 later and this is all forgiven 😊

As a royalist, it would be remiss of me, not to mention the first Anniversary of the passing of our most devoted and beautiful monarch, Queen Elizabeth today. She reigned over us for 70 long years, and today, we remember her with a smile in our hearts❤️✊🏻👑👜

Boarding now: 14.5 hours to Doha and then, like Gladiators of old, onwards to Rome ✈️

Three extra seats in every row 😳
Oh! To be able to upgrade to premium or business, would be absolute bliss! I will keep entering lotto and hope for the best 🙏🤑

Arrival at 5 am in Doha and the 33° heat hits like a tonne of bricks 🧱 as the aeroplane door opens. They are heading for a top of 46° here today…

We both craved a coffee ☕️ and regardless of the $10 pricetag, we enjoyed every sip 😋

    Suffering from the obligatory
‘plane-belly’: feeling like a balloon 🎈 about to pop 💥

Four hour layover until the six hour flight to Rome; like the DeLorean, we travel 🧭 back to the future 😵‍💫🫨arriving at 2pm 🕑 Saturday; 28 hours since arriving at Tullamarine 🥱

  • Rome if you want to…

    2023年9月9日, イタリア ⋅ 🌙 26 °C

Our eyes were almost hanging out of our head, but we were not going to waste a minute. The TripADeal hotel is out in the middle of nowhere, but because we are using Airalo, we were easily able to find the bus and train route into Central Rome.

It was well worth the effort because we found the most wonderful, delicious and authentic trattoria in a backstreet close to the Trevi fountain. There were no pretty pictures on the menu, just authentic and real Italian waiters serving the most delectable foods imaginable. You will see the margarita pizza 🍕 in the photos but the creamy Carbonara didn’t last long enough to get a photo. Along with bread 🥖 and zingy olive oil, all washed down with lemoncello spritz 🍋

We saw the magnificent Trevi Fountain ⛲️ by moonlight as well as the Spanish Steps and various other landmarks that reminded us that we were in the middle of an ancient civilisation bustling with excitement & pinch yourself-moments in amazingly warm European heat 🥵

    Roman Fun facts 👉

Rome is 2,500 years older than the Republic of Italy.

Rome has more fountains ⛲️ than any other city on the planet.

The origin of the city's name is thought to be that of the reputed founder and first ruler, the legendary Romulus. It is said that Romulus and his twin brother Remus, apparent sons of the god Mars and descendants of the Trojan hero Aeneas, were suckled by a she-wolf 🐺 after being abandoned, then decided to build a city 🌆

  • Colossal Colosseum

    2023年9月10日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Feeding time at the zoo! 😳😱
Our breakfast sitting was at 7:45 am… My anticipation was for the typical Italian breakfast table ladened with delicious fresh produce, but, nothing could be further from the truth! There were two tables hastily arranged with what seemed like stale pastries, basic generic cereals and bread 🍞 you would probably hesitate feeding to a duck 🦆 Oh! And Jugs of coffee and cordial. Very underwhelming! We certainly hoped this was not a sign of things to come!

Mauritzio ushered us onto the “Blue Bus” 🚎 and we headed into the centre of Rome and did a walking tour around the Roman forum and Julius Caesar’s’ forum. It was a 33° day, and all of these historical markers were directly exposed to the heat of the midday sun ☀️ so excuse my ruby red cheeks 🥵

We found another fantastic little place for lunch and enjoyed fresh, tomato 🍅 bruschetta, grilled vegetables 🥗 and another pizza 🍕 All washed down with Aperol Spritz & a litre of wine 🍷 It didn’t take long for the wine to wear off as we continued our journey using the Metro to get to Saint Peters basilica in Vatican City. Unfortunately we were unable to go inside the Museum because it is a Sunday. It was impressive to wander around the forecourt.

Fortunately, we pre-booked a Twilight tour of the Colosseum, thus saving us being part of a line that snaked around the outside and luckily we were part of the final day entry into this magnificent Stadium, which, incidentally, was built in only 11 years! By the end of this expedition, I was plum tuckered out, so decided to sit and people watch along the road built by Mussolini while German continued to walk around and work off the carbs 😝

We had a couple of quiet drinks in the gay street right next to the Colosseum and thought we had it all worked out until we got to the Metro station and replacement buses were in full force… Now, if you thought catching a replacement bus is hard in Melbourne, you ain’t seen nothing like trying to find one that takes you to the middle of nowhere in Rome! I won’t go into detail except to say that it was an experience like no other! The bus ride could only be compared to a white knuckle ride at any amusement park! 😳😱🤯🫣🫨

  • Pit Stop: Pompeii 🌋

    2023年9月11日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Thankfully, this morning, we found a half decent coffee shop with fresh pastries 🥐 available at typical European prices… Two coffees, and two fresh croissants for under five euro 💶 Not many things in life are certain, but, one thing I know for sure, ‘Faulty Towers’ in “… the Dandenong of Rome…” (…as a fellow traveler 🧳 dubbed it: apologies to any friends In Dandenong) will never 👎🏻 have the pleasure of my company again 😝😉

Over the next week we are visiting 4 different regions in the south of Italy 🇮🇹 - different languages, cultures and food. Italy is a united country but diverse and divided due to people coming from so many different countries by boat 🚤 in historical barbarian arrivals (Albania, Greece, Yugoslavia…) This is why the architecture is so different & unique.

First stop: the ancient city of Pompeii where 1000’s of people were frozen in time in when Mt Vesuvius spewed volcanic gas & ash and buried an entire civilisation. It has been held that the lives of ancient Pompeiians were tragically cut short on Aug. 24, A.D. 79, when Mount Vesuvius unleashed its fury, smothering Pompeii and other cities along its perimeter with volcanic debris.

My choice of footwear, being sandals was not the best idea on the metres and metres of cobblestone alleyways that used to be the roads in Pompeii. There are many images of bricks 🧱 mortar, stones and frescoes that may be slightly monotonous to anyone who hasn’t experienced the lost city but hopefully 🤞 some may be of interest.

Another extremely hot 🥵 day and lots of walking in the hottest part of the day… it felt like we were walking on hot 🔥 lava!

It was interesting to hear that the people of Pompeii were very fluid with their sexuality & sexual activity… Anything goes/went! 😱😝😳

Fun/sad fact: When Vesuvius erupted it shot ash and gases 30km into the shy for 12 hours! Gas instantly killed anyone who wasn’t already covered with ash and debris. Terrifying 🌋

  • Spectacular Seiano 🌅

    2023年9月11日, イタリア ⋅ 🌙 25 °C

After the absolute dive we stayed in during our TripADeal Rome stay (…yes! Neil…letting it go!). It seemed necessary to create a simple post for tonight’s TripADeal accommodation! All praise the Moon Valley Hotel 🏨🙏

There could be no better textbook,👃example of ‘chalk and cheese’ as this, and the last place!

Everyone bonded around the pool, and we even found some fun fellow travellers from the TripADeal textbook of life, and went out for dinner with them! This makes it all worthwhile…fingers crossed 🤞 it continues…

Finally, we know we are on the Amalfi coast! 🇮🇹☀️🍹💚🤍❤️🍋🍋🍋🍋🇮🇹

  • Practically Perfect Positano 🍋

    2023年9月12日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Early rise this morning at 6 am, followed by ‘feeding time at the zoo’… But, a little (tiny) better of a food selection than yesterday… Exploration of the beautiful Amalfi coast today… First stop was Sorrento where German and I enjoyed a relaxing coffee at one of the side walk cafes… After ditching the commentated tour leader with her incessant babbling… There is only so much of the historical aspects we need to hear about. It’s go, go, go…. Sometimes you just want to relax! So we took a moment to be in the moment 🧘🏻‍♂️

This trend continued throughout the day, allowing us to more comfortably, relax and enjoy the 30° weather, and the picture postcard scenes all along the Amalfi coast.

Second destination was Positano, and it honestly takes your breath away as you will see in the pictures. Instagram models around every corner, snapping themselves in various ‘wanky’ poses! 😳🙄💃🏼

    Tale from Positano 👉

In ancient times, a Turkish boat became beached just off the shores of what has since come to be known as Positano. Aboard the ship was a painting of the Virgin Mary. Legend has it that the captain heard the painting whisper "posa, posa" ('set me down, set me down') and he obediently threw the image into the sea 🌊

We had simple lunch of panini with ham & cheese 🧀 and absolutely delectable pastry 🥐 full of lemon 🍋 cream: famous in area! We enjoyed sitting in front of the amazingly beautiful cathedral down by the Bay. We then boarded a boat (shit show #1) that took us along the rest of the coast passing by Praiano and stopping at Amalfi, which I think is my favourite town of the day!
    Lemons everywhere! 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋

We made sure that we had the obligatory lemon 🍋 sorbet inside the lemon with a leaf 🍃 sticking out the top and bees swarming around it! At €10 it is pretty expensive, but you just have to go with the flow! 😜

I won’t go into the absolute shit show of boarding and un-boarding on the boats that ferry along the coast to the towns along the Amalfi coast! It is a simply breathtaking area but due to the difficulties in navigating and access & the geographical restrictions to these towns (…along with the exorbitant tourist trap 🪤 prices I don’t think I will re-visit, so I am making the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience! 🚌🇮🇹🍋💃🏼✊🏻☀️🥵👅🕺🏼

  • Fruits de Mere @ Bay of Napoli

    2023年9月12日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

…the end of a very busy, comprehensive and complex tour of the Amalfi coast…
This region, including Positano, Sorrento, and Praiano are generally on the top of most peoples’ must-see travel list… Yes, and they are magnificent, beautiful, breathtaking, unique, picture-perfect and
insta-worthy but, they are also very tight and cramped due to their geographical positions in Italy; making them complex to get into. They are extremely expensive and the true definition of what we would classify a ‘tourist trap’.
Having said that, I’m definitely satisfied that I am ticking it off my to-do list ✅

A very full on day was completed by visiting a local recommendation overlooking the bay of Napoli… A fresh and tasty catch of the day, perfectly coordinated with al dente, spaghetti and crusty bread 🥖 Add a crisp Chardonnay from the Umbria region and Bob’s your
    Australian-Italian Uncle 🤪 🥂

Let’s imagine that our Skipper from today’s activities was the very man who went out into the ocean to collect our Bounty for tonight’s feast…
    🧜🏻🦐🐠☀️🎣⚓️🚤

Yes, there are only two photos but that is sometimes all that is necessary to convey true satisfaction 😝✊🏻☀️🍋🦐🥖🕺🏼🇮🇹

  • Magical Matera ☀️🗻

    2023年9月13日, イタリア ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

A 350 km 4 hour 😏) bus 🚌 journey across Italy’s 🇮🇹 Amalfi to Puglia region. An interesting fact about current expense in Italy… Petrol costs twice as much as it does in Australia! We have 4 women on our bus 🚌 that babble incessantly about the most boring things, cackling like chickens 🐓 on and on and on! Just shut the farm for 10 minutes ladies! 😤🤯😡 There is one in particular that I often fantasise recreating that epic scene in Serial Mom, where the woman sits in her armchair, singing along with Annie and Beverly comes up behind her… whinge for the day over…Sorry, not sorry. 🙄🙄🙄🤐🤐

Anyway… back to being PC 🤫😝Matera is an amazing UNESCO World Heritage Site: the city of stones and rock churches. Matera is one of the oldest, still inhabited cities in the world: a magical place that preserves evidence of human settlements since the Palaeolithic period in its natural caves carved into the rock. In true TripADeal style, we wasted an hour and a half in the modern part of the town and thankfully, then, discovered the magical part as shown in these photos. Another downfall of TripADeal is that you miss out on the night life, and being part of the light shows that these towns become at night.

Puglia region is where focaccia originated so, of course, that had to be lunch choice! Freshly baked in the morning, along with freshly created mozzarella 😋

I absolutely loved this beautiful town… and can imagine how wonderful it would be and simply magical at night with all the lights illuminating up these beautiful white buildings… There are cafes and restaurants and beautiful little alleyways to wander and meander around in… German and I did the obligatory half an hour with the guide & then we went off and explored on our own: finishing our own special tour with Limoncello and April spritzes! 🍹

Back on the bus 🚌 and a Peroni to allow mind to block out those pesky ladies! 😇😝😵‍💫🤐

Next stop: the unique brilliance of the Tulli 🛖town of Alberobello…
    もっと詳しく

  • Aesthetically Adorable Alberobello 🛖

    2023年9月13日, イタリア ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Alberobello is like nowhere else on earth 🌍 The trulli, limestone dwellings, are remarkable examples of drywall (mortarless) construction, a prehistoric building technique still in use in this region. The trulli are made of roughly worked limestone boulders collected from neighbouring fields.

It was such an amazing experience to be part of the nighttime atmosphere in town. This is the holiday experience I most adore! 🥰 This is the time that these towns come alive and really live and breathe. The culture and true inner beauty comes out and you feel a part of it! TripADeal needs to reassess their planning and make a few more nighttime visits possible, so that participants can feel the true beating heart of the Italian 🇮🇹❤️life.

What an amazing unique and honestly beautiful little town this was. Once in a lifetime experience ☀️👍🏻🇮🇹🌃💚🤍❤️

We had delicious Orecchiette (little ears) pasta 🍝 with grandmothers meatballs. Just divine! Adding to the fun was glasses of local wine 🍷 served in paper cups… filled to the brim for €2! 😋

  • Outstanding Ostuni

    2023年9月14日, イタリア ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

First up: fantastic break to our go go go schedule! This morning we went to a small locals’ only town: Torre Canne. We could simply relax and live the slow paced Italian lifestyle. Meandering around town, sipping espresso ☕️ in a tiny cafe, relaxing on La Zanza beach 🏖️ and drinking Aperol Spritz 🍹 under seaside umbrellas, surrounded by locals going swimming in whatever they feel comfortable in… You can simply take off your clothes & swim in your jocks: nobody cares, judges or objects. This is fantastic way to take a break!
    💚🤍❤️

A charming town of around 32,000 residents, Ostuni is most famous for its white painted old town which forms a maze of cobbled streets and narrow staircases. Reminded me of a Greek island. Very similar architecture and white washed buildings.

First founded by an indigenous tribe some 600 years before Christ. All of these towns are so different because barbarians/people from so many other countries travelled by boat to the south of Italy because it was very easy to get here. They brought their own style to Italy, and created many different looking towns in this area.

The inhabitants of Ostuni decided to paint the houses white so that the sunlight, reflected on the walls, would blind enemies intent on attacking the city.

Ostuni is commonly referred to as "the White Town" (La Città Bianca in Italian) for its white walls and its typically white-painted architecture.

Devoured a delicious Panini with turnips and ham for lunch… It was extremely delicious 😋

On the way to our hotel, we stopped in at a Olive Grove to try typical Olive 🫒 oil which is native to Puglia region. Two of the trees 🌳 were over 1000 years old!

  • Sculptured Salento

    2023年9月15日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

With great anticipation and excitement I headed out to the front of our hotel 🏨 this morning and jumped off the small rickety jetty into the Adriatic Sea! Now, this is the Italy 🇮🇹 I’m talking about! Surrounded by just the locals in their jocks and undies 🩲 simply relaxing and enjoying the sun ☀️ …there were many rocks 🪨 so my new water socks came in incredibly handy!

Poetry Cave was an absolute vision of shimmering, shining aquatic beauty but, unfortunately, for us, it may as well have been a mirage. We were forbidden 🚫 to swim 🏊‍♂️ and dive! 😢
As you can see from the photos the American 🇺🇸 tour group made their own rules 😤 Good for them I suppose…I was envious 😫

All was not lost because we then arrived at another fantastic area where we could jump off the rocks and truly experience the relaxation and exhilaration of a couple of hours in crystal blue clear water! Loved it so much: wished we could’ve stayed the entire day. We fit in a delicious lunch (…after trying to get some service…!) of pizza 🍕 (…again!) and bought some freshly made cheese 🧀 from a man who makes it on his farm. He was selling it at the beach 🏖️ The perfect day would’ve been not to have to rush lunch but, instead, a leisurely one, a few more Peroni’s 🍺 and then back into the beautiful Adriatic Sea 🌊 in the beach that I longed for through the opening of the trattoria blinds! Robyn, you’ll understand the magic and rejuvenation that comes for such a day on the Puglia coast 💚🤍❤️

Otranto was the second to last stop. It has a beautiful castle and you can basically swim in the moat so I had a quick look around the town and a delicious gelato 🍧 (…extremely delicious 🤤) before heading back into the water to relax, realign & be in the moment again! ☀️🇮🇹🌊🏊‍♂️

This has been a wonderful day exploring beaches 🏖️ and, my personal favourites: rock 🪨 pools…Reminded me that organising your own itinerary where your timeline is your own: to go or stay or, most importantly, linger longer if you want!

My skin is covered in salt 🧂 which tells me it has been a great day 😊

  • Labyrinthian Lecce 🫶🏻

    2023年9月15日, イタリア ⋅ 🌙 25 °C

We took a wee sneaky look 👀 last night…which was refreshing: not having to go back to our ‘middle o nowhere’ hotel! Enjoying the nightlife and nighttime atmosphere. Magic 🪄
Devoured a meat & cheese 🧀 platter with crusty bread 🥖 and…you guessed it: Aperol Spritz! 🍹

Known as the Florence of the south, the historic city within the now mostly fallen old walls is a Baroque masterpiece, a living museum built with a material so unique to the area it has gained the name 'Lecce Stone’
The stone changes colour according to weather conditions.

Lecce is home to no less than 100 Baroque-style churches and three ancient city gates. It’s the largest city we have visited (after Rome). It would be wonderful to stay there a couple more days and overnight 🌃

On many of the balconies in Lecce geraniums are to be seen. In the early settlement wives put geraniums out on the balcony to let the lover know the husband had left the home… Now days, there are many other ways to do this LOL 😝

We didn’t spend near long enough in Lecce… It is a beautiful big baroque city with many authentic shops, rather than tacky souvenirs shops. And, I finally made a purchase, beautifully, handcrafted, leather wallet… Very pleased with the colours representing the Salento coast 🏖️ 🌊 ☀️

We also sat in the town Square and tasted a coffee is that is unique to this city; it tastes of Amaretto, it has ice 🧊 and was quite sweet, but delicious 😋

  • Magical Monopoli

    2023年9月16日, イタリア ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Monopoli is known for its beautiful coastline, quaint atmosphere and delicious seafood. It's also close to some of the most stunning beaches in Italy, with crystal-clear water that's perfect for swimming 🏊‍♂️ 🌊☀️

The name of the city derives from the greek "monos polis" which means unique and singular. Definition that is quite valid even nowadays as Monopoli is truly unique and fascinating.

The town is less touristy than nearby Polignano or Alberobello.

100% now one of my absolute favourites! There was just something about the aesthetic, the feel and the general chilled environment that was so relaxing and peaceful! The weatherworn buildings were absolutely beautiful against the Adriatic blue of the sea 🌊

We only had 2 hours here! Could easily spend a week. Seafood 🦞 is the obvious speciality and we were treated to a seafood lunch of delicious thick juicy prawns and a bottle of local white wine from the Puglia region.

    …just loved 🥰 it here! 💚🤍❤️

  • Proud Polignano a Mare: Nonna’s Lasagne

    2023年9月16日, イタリア ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We thought it had got as good as it gets today but then we were told by Mauritzio, our tour leader, that we were going to go to a ‘special surprise’ destination. Excitedly I had guessed it might be Polignano a Mare, which I have wanted to go to for a very long time.

Located on Italy's southern Adriatic coastline, the town of Polignano a Mare is an ancient seaside town dramatically sitting above rocky cliffs and sea caves and offering sweeping views of the turquoise sea 🌊

Excitedly, I was rounding every corner in the hope to see this magical beach that I had only seen in travel guides, YouTube, and books… Then, all of a sudden there it was… If we had more time I would have jumped straight into the water, but, alas… Not to be… Instead, we found a fantastic trattoria and had the best lasagne I have ever tasted…Nonna made it lovingly herself: One man in our tour group who could speak Italian asked Nonna, on my behalf, if it would be okay to take a photo and she was extremely obliging, adding that it was kind of me to ask before taking it, because most people just took it without asking… 👵🏻
PS: Her lasagne was the best I had ever eaten!

As I turned a corner on the walk back to the bus, I accidentally slapped my face lightly against a tree 🌿 branch, which was growing along the coast, and all I could taste 👅 was salt in my mouth… This was proof that I had just had another wonderful day by the sea 🌊 ☀️

  • Ship 🚢 Ahoy!

    2023年9月17日, イタリア ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We were efficiently on board by 10 am! And having a bloody Mary by 1030! It is so interesting to witness human form on a cruise ship… I had forgotten how gregarious & loud & ravenous everyone gets! People are filling their plates to the top with burgers and fries and pasta and fruit… Everyone is already drinking their fill from the bar… Cocktails at 11 am… Bring it on! 🍹 🍸

Unexpectedly, we stumbled onto the Broadway Theatre 🎭 where the Muster & Safety demonstration was happening… We forgot all about it! But, let’s face it. If the ship goes down, we go down with the captain… Or, on the captain LOL. 🤩🤣😝

German and I were wandering around to the ship trying to acclimatise and familiarise ourselves with the layout… The first thing related to this: which was the front of the ship, and which was the back of the ship! I felt more dizzy than ever due to the fact I have not cruised for so long (…well, not on a ship 🛳️ anyway).

We were also pleasantly surprised at the clientele on board. It is so different to a South Pacific P&O cruise… Yes, there are still the oldies and the goodies, but there are plenty of hotties 🔥 as well! ✊🏻😝🍹

We found out that the Internet packages now cost $160 for the entire cruise, so I am going to try and leave without the Internet for a while. I think German almost had a coronary when he realised there was no Internet connection on board. If we had bought the package earlier, it would’ve been cheaper, but, hopefully all will be well and we will find a myriad of other activities to occupy our minds… Obviously the drink 🍺 package will help in this. Part of me is hoping that cutting off a bit from the constant Internet chatter might be a good thing… 🚢 📱

We got separate inside cabins, which are not too shabby. No view to the outside world, but they have decorated them with mirrors 🪞 in a way that will alleviate that. Having no light 💡 in the morning could be a great thing as well.

By 5 pm I had already made great 👍🏻 use of my drink package allowance… So, that was money well spent… Apart from constantly drinking waters, I had a piña colada, a cosmopolitan, a Moscow mule and a martini 🍸

Headed to the pools on deck 11 and then into the whirlpool spas with close contact of certain humans who you would never generally share a metre square space with… Oh well, When in Rome… 😎😜😝

The dinner in the Restaurant was much more controlled and enjoyable. than any buffet will ever be. It was great that all the TripADeal people were sat in the same area and were able to bond on a different level.

We went to the show in the Broadway Theatre 🎭 which was called Access all areas: Rock & Roll 🎸
After the magnificent Italian cultural experience of the past week it was something completely different… Not bad, not good, just different… 😝🙃

Day, one of the Cruise done and dusted, and we didn’t even stay up late enough to go to the disco 🕺🏼 because we were pretty much stuffed after the last week of running around… Don’t get me wrong, it has been fantastic, but tiring… Time to recharge ready for the final Italian destination tomorrow and meeting up with Marta in her home town of Venice 💚🤍❤️

  • Vivacious Venice: I 💚🤍❤️you!

    2023年9月18日, イタリア ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Anxiety a plenty this morning when we discovered there was a transportation strike on in Venice! That pre-purchased Vaporetta (water taxi ) pass will now be a waste of money! Oh, well, the best laid plans can often go awry when travelling! 🧳 …panic attack sadly ensued as I tried to get assistance with the problem 😢

I must admit that the MSC staff were not very helpful with information on how to make our own way to Venice from the huge ship port at Marghera. This was disappointing and made me feel a little bit sad. Deep breaths and I got over it…. Just!

Arrival: I am currently wandering the alleyways, bridges and canals in central Venice . I cannot believe how beautiful 😍 this city is! There is something beautiful and majestic around every single corner! I am in heaven 😇

… six hours later, and I am absolutely in love! 💚🤍❤️ This city is like no other I have ever been to… I absolutely, totally and unconditionally, love Venice!
I will be back! Just so magnificent, magical & splendid! Having my own personal tourist guide with Marta made it even better… She took me to the most amazing places… To her own personal favourite trattoria: Osteria Al Squero (their logo is a gondola) and it is across the way from the second last Gondolier manufacturing yard in Venice. She also took me to the best gelato 🍨 establishment in the city… Gelato Nico. I feel so privileged and lucky to have met up with her yet again! She topped off the most perfect day by gifting me a beautiful knitted King Charles and Queen Camilla set! So beautiful… Thank you Marta! 🫶🏻👑

Every corner that you turn in Venice greets you with yet another amazing and unique, beautiful and spectacular sight. I am literally lost for words which most people know is very unusual for me! 😳🤐😝

I can only imagine how breathtaking Venice would be in the evening and at night… I will definitely be coming back and spending at least a week in this magical city 🌃 …if I never make it back for whatever reason, I can honestly say this six hours in Venice has change my life forever… 🥰

I took so many photos of the brilliance that overtook my senses! There were gondoliers singing as they pushed through the canals and pianists playing in St Marks Square. Just magical 🙏 this is going to require two posts… So I will make the second one soon and dedicated to the brilliance and loveliness of Marta!

Marta took me to have favourite area in Venice, less touristy: Dorsoduro; meaning hard back due to the earth it is built on, It did not disappoint. We ate delicious 🤤 Cicchitti with refreshing Aperol Spritz (yes! Again!). Robyn, when I visit, we shall buy a breadstick and create our own toppings for some of our own Cicchitti! 🥖 I know I’m going on & on but I can’t help it! This city is splendiferous! Marta took me to a quaint workshop she knows where I was able to speak with the owner & glassblower and buy a precious glass wine 🍷 tumbler made by him. Every time I drink from it I am going to have true love ❤️ in my heart for the most picturesque and mesmerising city in the world 🌍 🇮🇹

  • To Marta, with love 💚🤍❤️

Twenty Six years ago we worked together at the Empire Cinema, in Leicester Square, London… Oh! the joyful memories we have and constantly recollect upon… The concessions stand; selling popcorn 🍿 and hotdogs 🌭 ushering in celebrities and sitting through screenings of Jerry Maguire, the Fifth Element and Fierce Creatures more times than we can wish to remember… I love that we always reminisce and wish we could go back in time, even just for a day… With hindsight, and with the wisdom of getting older… Every time we return to London we both stand at the gates of with tears in our eyes; with sheer joy of being back in the city, we loved then, but even more now…

We were blessed to celebrate our beautiful Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations 👑👜 🇬🇧 together last year, just before she sadly passed away…

Today, you showed me the true heart of Venice… The most beautiful city I can remember experiencing in such a long time… Thank you for taking me to your favourite trattoria and encouraging me to have the special deliciousness at Gelato 🍧 Nico… It was a memory I will treasure forever…

I had forgotten how much passion and joy, feeling and emotion you bring to any situation… It reminded me of the most amazing experience that we had working together in 1997, and last year celebrating the Jubilee… memories and experiences are worth so much more than anything material… Just priceless!

I treasure the knitted Queen and now I will also treasure… King Charles and Queen Camilla. But, as discussed, they will be placed at a suitable distance to Her Majesty 👑😱😝

You may not even comprehend how important today’s meeting was for me… My day started off very badly, and you created a very special experience that will live with me until the day I die.…

As I am writing this my heart is full…your friendship means the world and thanks from the deepest depths of my heart for introducing me to Venice: City of Beauty, Strength and Longevity
    💚🤍❤️

  • MSC Sea Dayz N Nightz 🚢 🌊☀️🍸

    2023年9月18日, イタリア ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Thankfully, there is only one full day at sea… I only have the benchmark
of P and O cruise line to compare this cruise 🚢 to and I must say that MSC run a hot second place. Absolutely love unpacking once and just chilling. That is always gonna be attractive! 🎯

Firstly, I am really enjoying a soul occupancy inside cabin… It is very roomy and tastefully decorated with nice artwork and with the addition of mirrors to add a feeling of more space. The best part is that you can have complete black out darkness morning, noon and night if you want rest. Highly recommended cabin choice. Don’t see the point of a balcony cabin when you go to the bars to drink and socialise anyway. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Unless you book an excursion through MSC you are not given any instructions or information as to how you should make your way from the docking port to the city or town that you are visiting. Charging $30 for a transfer on a ship shuttle bus does not seem fair to me but the choice is limited. I figure if the ship docks half hour drive from the town then the shuttle in could be complementary rather than another add-on. It’s all a matter of opinion I suppose. When in Rome…

The Restaurant service is impeccable and the food 🥘 is delicious. Wayu & Yousef we’re beautiful 😍 hosts; both from Indonesia 🇮🇩 Nothing was too much trouble! The Restaurant is much more relaxing and enjoyable than participating in any of the on deck buffet selections… They are just a feeding frenzy at all times 🐷 but many love them so that’s fantastic and helps distribute passengers 😎
You could have three courses for lunch and three courses for dinner if you want. The breakfast menu is also extensive 🥐🧀🍳🥗🍤🍷🍽️

Is quite difficult to get a drink at any of the bars because they are understaffed; there is always one staff member stacking plates or stocking the fridge, even if there is a queue of people two deep at the bar. We caught the easy drink package prior to boarding, so it ended up great value. Trust me, we get our money’s worth! 🍹🍸🥃🍾🍷🥂🍻🍺☕️🫖🥤
…it took a few days to learn but the best way to get a drink is to get the attention of the ONE waitress and order with her…

The most pleasant staff member we have interacted with works in the jewellery boutique store - Pauline from Argentina 🇦🇷…thankfully my senses kicked in when she skilfully attempted to sell me an anchor ⚓️ bracelet for €370!

A very fun night was had by all at the disco 💃🏼 on the top deck. It is interesting to watch the dance staff performing like dance prostitutes all night long: working the crowd into a frenzy… All shapes and sizes, welcomed and encouraged by their tempting moves and seductive eye 👁️ contact 🙃

It’s kinda weird not having any access to your phone 📱 internet & social media while you’re on the ship unless you pay 💰 high access fees up front. It’s also more relaxing when you are not distracted by content and notifications 📣 so you engage with what’s going on around you better 👍🏻

Thinking about TripADeal again and I reflect on the wonderful group of people that have become friends on the cruise and it mellows my heart 💜 and makes me realise that there were more good things than bad that came out of the whole experience: I mean, just look at the happiness expressed in the faces at our dining table… that speaks volumes 🫶🏻👏✊🏻🥰

  • Delightful Dubrovnik 🕍

    2023年9月20日, クロアチア ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

The 'Pearl of the Adriatic', situated on the Dalmatian coast, became an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13th century onwards. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains.

I was not expecting to be completely blown away by Dubrovnik… But, how wrong was I? What an absolutely breathtaking, majestic, and magical city it is! Walking/strolling around the city, walls was breathtaking and awe inspiring at every step and every corner. We got to Dubrovnik very early so it was a beautiful, quiet experience.

It honestly felt like I was walking through a Hans Christian Andersen traditional fairytale. The terracotta on all the rooftops was amazing and spectacular… All the domes and church ⛪️ Bells chiming was magical. It reminds me a little bit of Salzburg in Austria… Very Sound of music-ish! I can almost hear the ghosts of the Von Trapp family skipping down the main thoroughfare…

Another extremely hot 🥵 day, but we were lucky that the tourist swell has subsided. This has been a fantastic time of the year to come to Europe. We were able to stroll around the Dubrovnik city walls without any pushing or shoving. The people seem so kind and friendly as well. Every single proprietor is kind and instantly speaks English to help you understand. We bought a beautiful print of authentic artwork 🖼️ painted by Croatian artists.

We had THE BEST Borek (cheese & spinach) ever! The ‘Borek Boy’ was breathtakingly as delicious 🤤 We washed it down appropriately magnificently with traditional local beer 🍺 (…walking the streets drinking… no fun police 👮‍♀️ here!). Also had a glass of the most sublime local wine 🍷

German did the Game of Thrones tour because this is the city where it was filmed. I never really understood what was going on in it so I decided the best activity for me was to go directly to the Buza (rock beach) which is directly underneath the town wall, Castle 🏰 turret! I mean, how absolutely amazing is that? 🏊‍♂️ I even saw a pirate 🏴‍☠️ ship sailing past!

There are two gates in the city wall that lead out to the most amazing and refreshing swimming areas… I almost jumped off the cliff but was a bit chickenshit 🐔 when I got up there LOL another absolutely fuck off fabulous town. This European adventure is the gift that just keeps on giving…!

PS: the Croatian men are SMOKIN’ HOT 🔥…ALL of them! 😋😉🤤👅

    🇭🇷❤️🤍💙

  • Because you Can Can Can! 💃🏼🕺🏼🎭

    2023年9月20日, クロアチア ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

I love a Broadway or West End Musical…
That is no secret… The performances on the ship 🛳️ in the ‘Broadway Theatre’ are exceptionally good.
The entertainment staff are trained to perfection and put on an absolutely brilliant show!
Tonight’s effort, which essentially paid tribute to the best of the best musicals of all time, including Wicked, Mary Poppins, Chicago,
Les Miserables, Hairspray, 42nd Street, and ultimately Moulin Rouge! Tonight’s was the best show I have seen on the ship so far… Just brilliant so, deserved its’ own post…
    👏👏👏✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🎭🎭🎭💃🏼💃🏼

  • Speedboat to the Blue Cave 🚤

    2023年9月21日, モンテネグロ ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Leo & Igor 👅 took us on an amazing speedboat 🚤 tour to the Blue Caves: breathtakingly stunning!
On the way we stopped at Our Lady of the Rock 🪨 Island where yet another fanciful tale of a floating painting of the Virgin Mary was found in the water nearby, so they decided to build a church to honour this wonderful supposed discovery ⛪️🙄🙃🤣😇

We went inside a cave that was built during the WW2 in order to hide submarines from the enemy; it was spooky 👻 inside. The sexy Leo played the James Bond theme loudly as we went inside because the cave because it was used in the James Bond movie of Skyfall, right at the end, apparently…

Lastly, but definitely not least…the mesmerising Blue Caves: the water 💧 was a magnificent shimmering blue & so inviting! Thankfully we stayed here for 20 minutes swimming 🏊‍♂️ and jumping off the speedboat 🚤 As you can imagine: my absolute favourite part of the 3 hour trip… refreshing and pinching myself with yet another amazing experience.

Kotor Port is right next to the old town so we could have lunch 🥗 back on board today.

    What a brilliant morning! 🥰🚤👏💙

PS: Leo was not only obviously hot 🔥 but very entertaining as well! 😝🕺🏼😉

  • Majestic Mountainous ⛰️ Montenegro🐈

    2023年9月21日, モンテネグロ ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Or: KITTY 🐈‍⬛ KAT KOTOR 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈……

Another day, another beautiful town! As I am writing ✍️ this I am climbing,l 1350 steps to overlook the beautiful Bay of Kotor in Montenegro 🇲🇪
It is extremely thirsty work and I am dripping with sweat: 😓 so much that it is running into my eyes and stinging them! But, it is all worth it! What a prize once you reach the top! ⛰️

We have been averaging about 20,000 steps every day, but nothing is as strenuous as today’s effort in climbing the steps up to the fortress. I was personally tempted, a few times, to throw in the towel, but this is probably my one and only time in Montenegro, so I was not going to let it beat me 💪🏻 🐈‍⬛

Like Venice, Kotor had a problem with rampant mice, rats, and snakes. Thankfully, the imported cats 🐱 were very happy to take care of that little problem and soon the city became a thriving trading port. Because of this, cats started to become a symbol of good luck. There is even a cat 🐱 museum!
Dad: This is where your 80th birthday present has been bought so it should bring you good luck for at least a year… Apparently if it doesn’t you can bring it back and try for another year! 🙃😝✊🏻 🐈 🐈‍⬛🐱

You know what? There has not been one destination on this journey that I have not enjoyed for one reason or another. They have all been wonderful and unique in their own special ways. The only thing I genuinely miss is being a part of the night time activity and night environment for many of them. Still, it has definitely been a wonderful taste of Europe… Places I would probably not have put on my own itinerary otherwise. 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈

Another huge plus for today’s town was that the ship basically docked right next door to the town so all we had to do was get off the ship 🚢 and walk across the road. We even came back and had lunch on the ship and then went back to this magical and majestic town again … Sat in the town Square and had a sangria and watch the world go by 🫶🏻👏🙌🏾

As the ship 🚢 rolled outta Kotor, with a slight drizzling of rain 🌧️ I thought 💭…If only I could continue travelling 🧳 forever 🙏

  • Calming Corfu 🇬🇷☀️🧘🏻‍♂️

    2023年9月22日, ギリシャ ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Arrival into Corfu 🇬🇷 and it felt like everybody was still asleep… Well, I suppose it is only 10 am, and the Greeks like to party later in the day🕺🏼

By midday, crowds were beginning to surface, but it still had a really laid-back feeling about it. There were no major sites that I needed to be at or committed to, so I was free to just wander, observe, and enjoy it. And that I did! Laid back Greece 🇬🇷 at its’ absolute best! Yassssou 🙌🏾

Sitting in one of the sleepy thoroughfares, I ordered a cappuccino ☕️ and the most delicious home-cooked crêpes with lemon 🍋 and sugar. The lemon took me back to the early days of this wonderful adventure on the Amalfi Coast: seems like a long time ago which is always a sign of a wonderful holiday. What a wonderful time it has been, and today is the perfect destination for reflection 🧘🏻‍♂️

While meandering the cute alleyways and strips, I came across a hat 👒 that actually suits me so that was my only purchase (… unless you include a bracelet and Greek style shirt… oh, and necklace with anchor & Greece beach 🏖️ towel 🤫) on a very relaxing Greek style day ☀️🇬🇷😊

Faliraki Beach 🏖️… just beautiful 😍
This is the kind of beach/rock pool made for lounging around all day; crystal clear shimmering water bursting with the purest Greek sea 🌊 salt 🧂 and a gentle breeze. Slow, sensual & laidback tunes playing by a DJ in the background at the bar…everyone simply relaxing 😎 and enjoying the glorious sunshine ☀️
There’s even a fresh water shower 🚿 to refresh yourself afterwards. It just doesn’t get much better than this!

It is so wonderful to be able to just take off your clothes and go swimming in your underpants! Nobody seems to feel self-conscious, everyone just being themselves… Magic… Watching sailboats gently drift across the water right in front of you while you swim is just so soothing & gratifying 🫶🏻⛵️☀️🇬🇷

Found a fantastic authentic old style family run Greek restaurant… Watch the final video to see the amazing spread that I was given… Gyros 🥙 with Greek salad 🥗 and potato, pita 🫓 and Tzatziki! Amazing x 100 Retsinas! 🍷 🤤🤤🤤

Ah! Corfu: you give the perfect summer 🌺 vibes and then some..!
