Lime Bikes and Brutal Hikes

Despite the big night and a very slow morning, we thought it would be a good idea to explore more of Split itself. We had mentioned to the ladies at the front desk that we were planning to find some electric bikes and ride around the area, and she immediately jumped at the chance to show us the best places to go and what to see. She also told us that the hostel had bikes available to rent for just €10 for the whole day. She handed us a map, and we were on our way.
The first thing we wanted to do was go for a swim, so as soon as we reached the nature reserve, we jumped straight into the water to cool off. It was already midday at this point, and the heat was starting to kick in. Feeling refreshed, we continued around the headland..
The electric bikes made getting around pretty easy while the path was flat, but as soon as we hit the hills, things got significantly harder. The lady at the hostel had made it sound like it would be easy, saying that if you were reasonably fit, it should be a "piece of cake." Either she was lying, or we were much less fit than we thought. Eventually, we gave up on the bikes and decided to hike to the top of the hill because we were struggling even with the electric assistance. Thankfully, the higher we climbed, the better the views became. By the time we reached the top, they were absolutely spectacular. The official lookout had been closed, but Jack and I decided to find our own path up and were rewarded with an unreal view. Split was spread out on one side, while some of the other Croatian islands could be seen across the water on the other. I wish the photos could do it justice, but once again, it was one of those views that was impossible to properly capture in a single shot. By this point, we were absolutely buckled and couldn’t wait to find some food and relax. After a quick stop at another beach, we made our way back to the hostel for a shower and a bit of downtime.
We then headed out for dinner on our final night in Split. Since it was our last night, I was keen to see Diocletian’s Palace again and have a quick wander through it at night. It was pretty cool seeing the palace after dark, with the whole area taking on a completely different atmosphere.
