Acatenango summit

Nach einer schlaflosen Nacht für mich ging es dann um 4:30 Uhr morgens los zum Gipfel des Acatenangos auf 3970m. Das Wetter meinte es allerdings nicht so gut mit uns denn wir waren von Anfang an in dieser zirkulãren Wolke die sich oft an den Vulkangipfel bilden. Der Wind und die Kälte machten den aufstieg etwas mühsam aber nach 1 1/2 h hatten wir es dann geschafft. Die Bedingungen auf dem Gipfel waren nochmal um einiges extremer. Orkanartiger Wind machte uns das Leben nicht einfach, man konnte kaum auf seinen eigenen Füßen stehen. Am Ende saßen wir alle zusammengekuschelt gegen den Wind weil man sonst kaum atmen konnte. Zudem war es eiskalt...selbst 5 Lagen an Oberteilen haben nicht gereicht um dich länger warm zu halten, daher sind wir dann relativ schnell auch wieder zurück zum Basecamp um danach dann direkt den Berg wieder herunterzuwandern.

After a sleepless night for me, we set off at 4:30 in the morning to summit the Acatenango at 3970m. The weather conditions were crazy from the beginning because we were in this circular cloud that often forms on the volcano summits. The wind and the cold made the climb a bit tiring but after 1 1/2 h we made it. The conditions on the summit were even more extreme. Gale-force winds did not make life easy for us, we could hardly stand on our own feet. In the end, we all sat cuddled up against the wind because otherwise we could hardly breathe. It was also freezing cold...even 5 layers of tops were not enough to keep you warm for longer, so we returned to base camp relatively quickly and then hiked straight down the mountain again.Read more
