    26. september, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We stopped to eat lunch at this place. My humans thought it was very interesting. I liked walking around the loop. I don't understand why I had to have my leash on. It would have been fun to run through the tall grasses. I bet that I couldn't even see my human because they were so tall! They ate a yummy lunch of sandwiches and I got one corn chip 😢. Now we are on the road again.Les mer

  • Lunch at Native BrewWorks

    27. september, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

We went to a yummy restaurant for my humans dinner. They had an outdoor area where I could stay with them. There were lots of kids running around and I got lots of scritches! Best of all, I got to meet Nichole, Zach, and Jamie. Nichole's friend, Rebecca was there too. Jamie is Nichole and Zach's human baby. He sure does smile a lot. I get to see them tomorrow too!Les mer

  • Baby dedication's

    28. september, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

I had to stay in the hotel all by my self 😢 while my humans went to church. I was very sad. However, my humans were very happy. They said that they all got on stage to pray for Jamie as he grows up with the Lord. But, surprise! There were 2 babies being dedicated. The other one was Lucy, Jamie's cousin. How cool is that.
My humans came back to the hotel to check on me, then they left again and I had to stay behind. I could tell when they came back that they had BBQ without me!
After some good naps, we all got together at Galen and Pat's house. There was lasagna and garlic bread. Their dog, Roscoe and I made sure the floor was kept clean!
The next day we went to Nichole's house and I met her 3 dogs. Roscoe was there to help with the introductions. Then we had to say goodbye. This was hard for my humans, but I was ready to hit the road!

  • New Madrid, MO

    29.–30. sep., Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

We stopped in New Madrid on our way to Grand Rivers, KY. Did you know that a giant earthquake happened here a very long time ago. My brain can't even figure out how long ago that was! My humans had lunch at a little park by the Mississippi River and then they went inside the museum and got some books. I guess that's ok, but I would have preferred some treats since I can't read.
We went to our VRBO in Grand Rivers. Mike was surprised at how nice the place was because it was a mobile home. It even had a fenced yard that I could run around in.
We took some long walks and I was so sure that there was something in the woods that needed my attention but I wasn't able to go in there.

  • Lincoln's boyhood home

    30. sep.–1. okt., Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

We stopped at a little store for ice and my humans grabbed a biscuit sandwich. It looked so good. It was all fresh, including the homemade biscuit. Regina said it was like eating a cloud. What else would you expect from a place that says they sell Bubba burgers!
We stopped at a place later on for gas and they had a dog park. My humans realized that they had left my leash back at the VRBO. I had ran as fast as I could to get into the car and I didn't let them put on my leash. We used a bungee cord as my leash until we could get a new one.
We drove to Elizabethtown, KY and found a pet store. I was really happy because not only did I get a new leash, I got a matching collar yea!
We then went to Lincoln's boyhood home. They took turns going inside the park museum. While I waited outside, I got lots of people telling me what a good girl I was and how I was so pretty. All 3 of us walked a mile to see the log cabin which is inside a building. Did you know that President Theodore Roosevelt placed a stone to start building 100 years after Lincoln was born. Lincoln must have been someone special. Now that I'm thinking about it, Roosevelt must have been special too. After this long day, we went to our hotel to rest.

  • It was a Capital day

    1. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

We started out going to the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort, KY. The building was closed because of construction. The Capitol building has not had any major upgrades for 70 years!
After that we went to a cemetery. Daniel Boone and his wife, Rebecca, are buried there. I guess there is some controversy as to whether Boone is really buried here or in Missouri. He was initially buried in MO, but he was dug up and moved to KY. It was really easy to drive in and find the memorial, but it was hard finding our way out of the cemetery!
Before we checked into our hotel, we went by the West Virginia State Capitol. It sure does have a shiny dome!
Then we went to the hotel. I had to check around our room to make sure it was free of any crumbs that housekeeping might have left behind. I'm sad 😔 because they did a really good job and I couldn't find anything!

  • Entering VA

    2. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

I was ready to go for the next leg of our trip. We stopped at the Virginia Welcome Center and took lots of pictures in front of a sign. I don't understand why.
Then we drove to Appomattox Courthouse. On April 9, 1865, the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in the McLean House in the village of Appomattox Court House, Virginia signaled the effective end of the nation's largest war. General Grant's victory was the product of eight-day campaign that ended at Appomattox Court House. However, it was closed because of the government shutdown.
So we drove on. We stopped for lunch at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was very pretty. I didn't get anything to eat 😔.
We also stopped at the American Civil War museum in Appomattox.
Then, we drove to Charlottesville, VA to go to sleep.

  • Thomas Jefferson and VA Beach

    3. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

We went to Thomas Jefferson's house in Charlottesville VA. We learned about the people who lived there, including enslaved people. We couldn't go inside because I was with them and for some reason, dogs aren't allowed inside. I'm a nice dog and I'm clean too! They should have made an exception for me! Mike and I have to walk 1/2 a mile up the mountain side. Regina took a shuttle. We stopped be Jefferson's grave. The cemetery is owned by descendants and is still an active cemetery. If you are a descendant, you can be buried there.
Then we headed to Virginia Beach. We went to Aunt Martha's and then we took a walk on the boardwalk. There is a gigantic statue of Neptune! I got to walk in the sand for a bit. Everyone had stopped at Starbucks and I got to finish off a vanilla bean frappe. Then they took me home to eat my dinner. The humans went out to a restaurant called Dockside. They said it was very yummy.

  • Aunt Martha and Virginia Beach

    4.–5. okt., Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

My humans are awful about taking pictures! One of the photos she uploaded is a picture of a picture! I had fun at Aunt Martha's. She made my humans breakfast every day. She gave me bacon and a boiled egg and peanut butter snacks. Yum! The humans hung around the house on Saturday and then went to Blue Seafood and Spirits for dinner. I heard that Aunt Martha told them a special code and they got some tempera battered butterfly shrimp.
Cousin Susan stayed the night and hung out with me. She sure does give some good scritches!
On Sunday, they left me at Aunt Martha's house to visit Cousin Susan's house. My humans said it was a really nice house with 2 cats and a dog called Skipper. I would have liked to play with him. Then, they went to a restaurant called Captain Chuck-A-Mucks Sandbar And Grill in Rescue, VA. They sat outside right next to the water. Cousin Susan with her husband, George, and Aunt Martha were there too. After dinner, my humans had to say goodbye to Cousin Susan and George.
On Monday, we had to say goodbye to Aunt Martha. It sure would be nice to see everyone again.

  • The Outer Banks

    6. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

We went to the Outer Banks to see the Wright Brothers National Monument but it was closed because of the government shutdown. We did stop at the First Flight memorial. Then we went to a restaurant called Noosa Beach Grill in Kill Devils Hill. We had tried to go to a place called Arts that Cousin Susan recommended but they were closed on Mondays. Mike and I went down to the water. He tried to get me to get into it with him, but I said, "No Way!" I don't like for my paws to get wet! So we went back to the Jeep.
Then, we went to see the highest sand dune on the eastern seaboard. All of us walked up the ramp that went nearly to the top of the dune. They had a place were you could place your camera and take a picture and then upload the picture so they can keep track of changes to the dune over time.
Next, we went to see the Bodie Lighthouse. It was also closed because of the shutdown, but we were able to get a picture or two.
After that, we drove to Greenville, NC to sleep.

  • I'm happy!

    7. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

We stopped for a potty break earlier today and I ate my breakfast. I think my bowl is dirty and too stinky.
Later, I got to walk around at the South Carolina Welcome Center. I used their grounds and even felt more better.
We stopped for lunch in the little town of Dillon, SC. It was ok. I didn't get out of the Jeep. My humans didn't get out either. They wanted a city park but we couldn't find one.
Then we found a QT and now there is the smell of coffee surrounding me
    Mmmm mmmm good!

  • Playful Ruby and Mountains

    8. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

That puppy can be fun, but boy is she fast, and busy all the time. I think she tires me out. I'm trying to teach her how to be a good doggy but it's so hard. I'm really trying to teach her manners. For example, when it's a good time to play and when it's a good time to sit and be still. I'm not sure she is learning anything. She wants to play with me all the time.
We went to Caesar Head State Park (without the puppy). We had a great time looking out at the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Then we went back and Scott cooked everyone dinner. The puppy and I even got some steak and mashed potatoes! I think I like it here.

  • Left home alone

    9. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

The humans went out this morning and went to the Falls Park downtown. They left Ruby and I at home alone. They did put her in a crate, for which I was thankful.
They saw some waterfalls and ate lunch next to the river. Then, they came home and I took a nap with Mike. (It's hard work guarding a home.)
Ruby and her human, Scott, got into the pool and played and played and played and played! She was so wet and got everyone around her wet.
The humans are going out to dinner tonight and leaving us at home. I hope it remains quiet, but I will be there to stand guard.

  • Last night with the Porters

    9. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Ruby and I stayed home again while all the humans went out to dinner. They all looked nicer than I have seen them for awhile! They said that they food was delicious but the waiter talked a lot. They also said that they enjoyed the evening. Then, they came home. Ruby got the zoomies. Ruby and I also played. I had so much fun. Ruby kept jumping on the couch pretending that the humans were a safe space and then jump down. She looks so funny when she's playing or just excited. It seems like she doesn't know where her legs are. They seem to flop everywhere! I got tired of playing and I wanted to lie down on the floor and rest, but Ruby still wanted to play. I had to give her my warning growl to leave me alone. I guess she has been learning stuff from me. She left me alone and then went and laid down by her humans. After a while, my humans went to bed and I had to make sure that they did all their night time routines.Les mer

  • Saying Goodbye & Curvy Roads

    10. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

We said goodbye to the Porters and to Ruby. She even sat with me by the front door while Mike was loading the Jeep. We were such good girls. We didn't try to go out the door after we were told to stay! The humans hugged each other and Ruby and I had some good pets. I licked everyone goodbye.
Then we got on the road. I was excited to be on the road again. We drove for a long time. We came upon a road sign that said, "Smoky Mountain National Park". We decided to take that exit. The humans thought it would be nice if we drove through the park for awhile. As soon as we got on the road, something didn't seem right. We were on a two lane road and it started getting curvy. First, it would go one way and then it would go the other way. I tried to stay standing up so I could supervise Mike's driving, but there were too many curves! The higher up the mountain we went, the more curvy the road got. Mike said it was worse than when they to Caesar Head State Park. Sometimes we had to pull over to the edge of the road to let a car go by us. Then, all of a sudden, the surface of the road changed to gravel. After 6 miles and half an hour, Mike had enough of the road. He found a driveway and turned around. I was relieved. It's very stressful trying to supervise my humans on a road like this.
We also drove on I40 through Asheville. The road has lots of construction. They are having to rebuild portions of the road after Hurricane Helen earlier this year. The amount of work that has been done is massive and the amount of work that still needs to be done is massive. We ended the day in Knoxville, TN. I was so tired. We stayed at a hotel that wasn't very nice. The carpet looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The appliances were ancient. They were a lot older than me. But the sheets were nice and clean and my humans said that it had one of the hotel best showers. It got hot fast and the water pressure was very good. I stayed as far away from it that I could!

  • The Hermitage and Heading Home

    11. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

I was so glad to leave that hotel. Yuck!
We drove to Nashville and saw a sign for Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. President Jackson lived there for about 40 years until he died. We decided not to go in because I wasn't allowed. Can you believe that?!? I am one of the cleanest dogs you will ever meet! Mike went inside the gift shop and bought a book.
We then continued on, going on a lot of bridges. After many hours, we finally arrived at our hotel in Salem, IL. I was tired and hungry. I made Mike take me for a good walk so I could stretch my legs and then, I was ready for dinner. My dinner bowl smelled awful, so he washed it before he put my food in it. It was so much nicer! Then I slept until the humans got into bed. After they were done getting everything right for them to sleep, I snuggled in for the night.
Tomorrow we will be home and I get to see Penny again!

  • The Final Stretch

    12. oktober, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

We left the hotel this am. I had my breakfast but Regina got a cinnamon roll from the lobby. It looked so good! She was eating it in the car. I didn't try to eat it, but she had some food on the side of her face that she didn't clean up fast enough, so I helped her. 😃
We've been going and going. We've stopped a couple of times so I could walk around a bit and have a bowl of water.
I saw a castle in the middle of the Mississippi River! It really was a water control building in the 1900s, but I think that I will keep the title of castle 🏰. It sounds better.
We finally got to Andrew, Susan and Caleb's house where I got to see Penny! There was so much sniffing going on. I'm so happy she is back with me. Well, except for one, tiny thing. She always takes over the console when we ride anywhere. I have to sneak onto whenever she backs away from it. Oh, well. We are both back home in our defense positions of watching the house and the neighborhood. It sure is good to be home! Now, I have to get the humans back on my schedule.
