• On the way to Maningrida

    May 24, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

The road from Jabiru to Maningrida has only been open recently due to the river crossings being too high. Cahills crossing is famous for croc spotting, fatalities & cars being wash over the causeway. A couple of hrs either side of low tide is the time to cross. The scenery is pretty fantastic, wetlands, birds, rock escarpments. Didn’t have time to take photos as we wanted to get to Greg & Rachel’s before dark, we’ll get them on the way back. Managed to get through all the river crossings, about4 major ones & many smaller, without any trouble…maybe some faster heat rates at times. Didn’t see much wildlife, a couple of buffalo, horses & kangaroos but no crocs😓. I suppose that’s a good thing though. The road was ok, took about 4 hrs, the usual corrugations & plenty of washaways.Read more
