• Tirohanga Track and Karaka Point

    5 juni 2020, Nieuw-Zeeland ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We naturally woke up early and had free homemade warm scones for breakfast at the hostel. They were delicious. We then drove to the Tirohanga track and hiked 6.5km to the top through fern forest. We saw lots of fantail birds who kept swooping in next to us and flying away again. They aren't shy at call and very curious. The track was very muddy I stupidly walked up in my trainers with no grip and was slipping a lot. That taught me a lesson to always where my hiking boots. When we arrived at the top we had beautiful views over Picton, Waikawa and the Marlborough Sounds.

We then went to Picton Harbour to see about doing a boat tour. It was quite expensive so we thought we may do it when we come back to picton. We decided to drive to Karaka point Lookout. It had a small track to walk down to the beach overlooking the Malbourough sounds. Ashleigh found some mussels and we found a blue starfish on the beach we weren't sure if it was alive or not so we put it back in the sea. After the walk we went for a coffee by picton Harbour. In the evening we ate fried rice with Teriyaki sauce and vegetables which I cooked for everyone. Ashleigh and I then went to Essons track to see the glowworms. We had our torch and spotted some after 20 minutes of walking through the dark forest. It was very magical.
