From Cathedral Coffee to Tapas Tango

    September 27, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

On our first day, we explored both capitals of the island. The former capital, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, enchanted us with its historic checkerboard-style old town, where we savored coffee and cake with a cathedral view. Then, we ventured into the Anaga Mountains, immersing ourselves in the mystical laurel forest and enjoying breathtaking views from Mirador Cruz del Carmen. We also admired the colorful hillside village of San Andrés, built right into the slope. Finally, we discovered the current capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and were captivated by its unique atmosphere, reminiscent of Tehran, with its multi-level architecture. After nearly 30,000 steps, we ended the day with an unforgettable culinary experience at the counter of an authentic tapas bar.Read more

  • Exploring Our Fascinating Backyard

    September 28, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

On our second day in Tenerife, we decided not to chase sights across the island but to get to know the neighborhood around our coast. We’re staying on the quiet east side of the island - the part often described as “the windy desert side.” Sounds harsh, but in reality, it’s a hidden gem: fewer tourists, wide open views, and the kind of calm you secretly hope for on holiday.

Our walk turned out to be more eventful than expected. First, we spotted little crabs scrambling over the volcanic rocks and fisher men living in volcanic caves . Then we stumbled upon an unfinished leper station from the 1940's —creepy but fascinating.

Eventually, the path opened up to a beautiful sunny view of the Atlantic and neigbour island Gran Canaria!

After clocking quite a few steps, we rewarded ourselves with some downtime at our infinity pool and jacuzzi. Floating there with nothing but sky and ocean in front of us...

  • The wild Wild West

    September 29, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

After recharging our batteries the day before, we felt ready for a proper adventure on Tenerife’s wild west side. First stop: Los Gigantes, home to the 2nd highest cliffs in Europe! Impressive giants! Any one knows the highest ones?

From there, we wound our way through the Teno Mountains, where every hairpin bend reveals a new “wow” moment. Not a place for L drivers 🤓 Tiny isolated villages like Masca pop up between the peaks.

We kept driving until Buenavista del Norte, where the Atlantic waves crash dramatically against the volcanic cliffs. Standing there, you don’t just see the ocean—you feel it rumble in your chest.

In the evening, we decided to balance out all that rugged nature with a taste of "American tourist" civilization in Los Cristianos. Only the cocktails and paella were fantastic over there though 😅

  • Balconies, Basalt & Beryani

    October 1, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Day 4 was what you’d politely call a “lazy day.” We snorkeled, swam, accidentally crisped my back in the sun, and then stayed up late to gaze at the stars. Tenerife isn’t just good for beaches—it also happens to be Europe’s best place for stargazing!

By Day 5, we were refreshed and ready for culture again, so we headed north to the greener, lusher part of the island. First stop: La Orotava, a charming town full of terraced viewpoints and beautifully carved wooden balconies.

Next, we visited the famous 1,000-year-old dragon tree in Icod de los Vinos. Let’s just say: it’s big, it’s ancient, and it looks exactly like something a wizard would keep in his garden.

But the highlight was diving into a volcanic labyrinth, the longest in Europe and sixth largest in the world. Exploring underground passages carved by lava flows was both thrilling and slightly spooky. Nothing like realizing nature builds better tunnels than humans ever could. Having a guide expecting the next volcanic eruption within one year time made us a bit nervous though 😱

We ended the day in Puerto de la Cruz, where we loved a plate of flavors at a Persian restaurant. Between saffron rice, juicy kebabs, and aromatic chicken, we decided it was one of the best meals of the trip. Who knew Tenerife’s north would serve up such a multicultural surprise?

  • Big Dolphins, Bigger Laughs

    October 2, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Our second-to-last day had a very noble mission: spot wildlife. More specifically, local whales. Although, if I’m being honest, some of them looked suspiciously like very large, well-fed dolphins. Either way - majestic.

Ironically, the biggest “wildlife” we encountered wasn’t in the water at all, but on the boat. Our captain clearly loved his job, life, and probably every whale he had ever met. His super loud, deep laugh is still echoing somewhere in my soul (and possibly in the Atlantic).

It was also a perfect day to slow things down - doing some serious relaxing and even squeezing in a snorkeling session along the beach. Later, our cheerful captain dropped us off in Adeje, just in time for a beautiful sunset. Sadly, a few strategically placed rocks prevented us from hearing the legendary psssss sound the sun supposedly makes when it kisses the sea…

  • A Very Tall Volcano and a Very Happy End

    October 3, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

On our last day in Tenerife, we headed straight for Teide National Park, home to Mount Teide (3,715 m), the highest peak in the Canary Islands—and, measured from the sea floor, the third-tallest volcano in the world.

We didn’t actually go all the way to the top, mainly because the cable cars looked like flying sardine tins and the prices suggested they were made of gold. Still, wandering through the desert-like landscape felt wonderfully otherworldly, like stepping onto a different planet.

And to round things off perfectly, that final evening we finally heard it: the legendary sound of the sun kissing the sea. Pssss. Worth the wait. 🌅
