    Over the sea to Skye

    Sep 11–15 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

Picked up our car from Fort William destine for the Isle of Skye stopping at Elaine Doon Castle on the way. The Isle of Skye, located off the west coast of Scotland, offers breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The weather remained semi kind, as it wouldn’t be a holiday in Scotland unless you got drenched at least once. Basecamp was in Portree a quant fishing village. Over the next few days we climbed the Old Man of Storr ( Aliens fans may recognise the landscape from the film Prometheus ), Mark snd Jenny indulged in fresh oysters and whiskey tasting . We visited the historical farmers Croft homes and went to the Mac Donald Caln castle Dunvegan, owned by the 30th Chief, whom we were told likes to mingle incognito with the tourists After a morning of searching, giving way to the charity tractor rally and locating a good cup of coffee; we found the Kilmuir Minature standing stones in a locals front yard. Mark swears they are magical as challenging them that night he had a winning streak in Frackle (Spooky)Read more

  • Off to the Highland Games

    Sep 6–8 in Scotland

Leaving Edinburgh behind with a quick visit to the Livingston stone circle we progressed to Sterling Castle where Anne Queen of Scott’s lived. It was amazing with character actors, stunning tapestries and gardens. We ended the evening enjoying an Indian take away with the Kelpies. Next day off to the Braemar Highland Games. What an experience! Bagpipers on mass, highland dancing, tug of war, hammer throwing, and Caber tossing just a few of the competitions of the games. We even had a visit from🤴 Charles & 🫅Camilla.Read more

  • Edinburgh

    Sep 1–6 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

With Jenny & James we discovered Edinburgh. From the famous castle perched on top of an extinct volcano, the royal yatch Britannia, the spooky underground vaults and a bagpipe player on every corner. We went on a fantastic walking tour by Daniel a kilt wearing Scottish comedian who gave us the rich history of Scottish; royalty, battles, famous authors and ghosts stories. We feasted on the culinary delights of haggis and black pudding. Not beer drinkers Mark & I stated a Scottish cider grading system, Thistly Cross Whiskey Cask ATM winning.Read more

  • Golf at St Andrews & a bit of family hi

    August 31 in Scotland ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

Headed off early to the birth place of golf, St Andrews. Played our best game ever, on a very windy course ( Mark- 5 pars Janine - 4 pars). As told by a local it’s a must to finish the 18th with a wee nip of whiskey. In keeping with the history theme, our next stop was Dundee where my Dads parents lived until coming to Australia. They both worked in the jute mill, my nanna from the age of 12. We found their homes and the church they were married in (1906) were still standing. Pretty tough life for the workers back in the day.Read more

  • England to Scotland

    Aug 29–Sep 1 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Started with a very grey and wet drive heading to Scotland. Quick stop to see the concert cows on the M1. Overnight stay at a typical English pub, popped into to Wentworth house (largest in UK) and Raby Castle which can only be inherited by a male heir (OMG are we still in the 1800s) Visited Druid stones amongst farm land whilst being checked out by the locals. Arriving in Perth a lovely town on the river Tay.Read more

  • No place like Nevada …, Missouri

    Aug 22–28 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Great flight to Dallas. Through immigration and collected the rental hitting the highway in epic time heading to Nevada Missouri. Had a wonderful time with Mark’s mom Nadine, meeting her friends and doing a culinary tour of Nevada. May have to pop into Walmart before we leave for bigger pants. Big question will Nadine’s peanut butter balls make it back to Aus????Read more
