Lisbon Discovery
December 29, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 9 °C
A late start to my day ..recovering from.yesterday's lack of sleep
I embarked on a wander near my hotel,to further acquaint myself with my location
There are many quaint side streets with marble cobbles, traditional gas lamps. The Portuguese clearly like their food and there are many bakery shops in particular.
I walked to find the No 28 tram...which is famous for the route it takes past all the relevant sights ....Id been warned its often crowded....I managed to find the right tram stop. ...It was indeed crowded and actually impossible to see anything outside ,because it was such a squash inside the tram....Even when ,after a few stops i managed to get a seat ,i didnt really see anything .So i resigned myself to just enjoying the bone shaking tram ride ,which is the thing that triggered my desire to come to Lisbon, whilst recognising id have to see the sights some other way.
Ironically ,the last stop..
And then the 1st stop were right near my hotel....but id not realised and walked quite a way to get on
I was slightly at a loss as to what to do next ,when a guide ,called David ,who Id spoken to yesterday ,called to me ....resulting in a really fun time in a tuk tuk ,seeing all the sights that were impossible to see on the tram..I saw wall art ,the castle ,the Cathedral .(from 1146)..the church of St Vincent which was nicer than the Cathedral...the highest viewpoint of the city which was amazing
On my return ,David gave me his number so i have it for future reference....
I continued to wander round in the vicinity of my hotel and tried the traditional warm custard pastry, which I liked ...There is a traditional drink called Ginjinha, apparently like port...and sold in shots...The shop next to the pastry shop was selling it but I didnt try it.Instead I went in a nearby church which was so ramshackle but remarkable
I decided to buy food to take back to my room for my tea ..
I spent the evening booking trips for the next couple of days, chatting with Stella ,who rang me and starting my penguins for this trip.Read more
