• Orberio and Nazere day trip

    December 30, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

I was collected from a nearby hotel for todays outing
We then went to collect the rest of the passengers ,a couple from Italy and 2 grumpy old ladies from Brazil who went mad when we didn't set off.on time as two other passengers were late..I felt sorry for the guide as it wasnt his fault ..A further diversion resulted in collecting 2 other passengers
The Brazilian women kept up.the grumpy attitude the whole day ..
Our 1st stop.Oberio...a walled medieval village which was very quaint and particularly so with all.the xmas decorations. We spent about 2hrs here and tried the Portuguese drink Ginjha..which is served in an edible chocolate shot cup.The flavour is supposed to be sour cherry ..I thought it tasted like cough medicine....Its also 80%alcohol.
I climbed up the walls to see the views which were beautiful...over the roof tops and fields growing the crops for Ginjha
We moved on to Nazere ....a coastal location ,popular with Portuguese people and a place for giant surfing waves up to 30m high......but not today unfortunately ...as id like to have seen that
We had lunch at this location...Its very easy to forget it is december when the sun is so warm.
Having pancakes with various toppings is a real.thing here so I decided to have a traditional sugar and lemon one
After lunch we went to the highest viewpoint for what was an amazing view
Also we went closer to where the waves can be.really high ..a steep walk downhill ...there was also a lighthouse......i love a lighthouse
Thankfully we came back up the hill in an old landrover jeep
An enjoyable day out to two places i didnt know about till I came here
