    December 31, 2025 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

An interesting day out today with a couple from usa ,matt and amy and a young guy from.russia who is living in stockholm.
We got on really well as a group ,just shows that its the people in power who wreck it for the rest
We went to the most westerly point of Europe ,which was beautiful..I was delighted as ,in when I was in Norway , I went to Honninsvag ,its the most Northern point of Europe
Apparently straight ahead from this point is Washington DC
We were supposed to see inside Pena Palace ,but it was closed so we only saw the outside
Moving on ,we went to Sintra a quaint village, with more cobbled narrow streets and staircases off the main street... I did look around briefly but found a coffee shop and had cup of tea and a traditional apple pastry....The portuguese clearly loved food ,pastries in particular
Next we visited a place where the waves are excellent for surfing .The waves were definitely fuller than yesterday
Our final stop was to a lovely coastal town.Having had a quick look around I decided to go on the Carousel, before finding a cafe ,to pass the time
On our return ,to Lisbon i collected my bag from my hotel ,who offered me a piece of traditional cake, which was lovely touch
Meanwhile ,the posh hotel i was going to because it has roof terrace to see the fireworks ,told me i could go up to it as Ive not paid the 300Euros for the party package...which i hadnt done or known about....and in any case was sold out
I played the solo female traveller safety card ,saying which was true the sole purpose for staying here is because of the roof terrace..As a guest i think its wrong cant access the terrace tonight...The young female receptionist was very good and I do have a room with a river view
I can also see the roof terrace
It transpired that food options were limited so had room service
Further investigation i found a hostel with roof terrace right in the centre of Commerce Square ,the main location for tonight.
Ive really undecided whether to join the crowds, which started forming from 4pm ! Or get a boat last min ,but not got the right clothing and dont want to feel uncomfortable,as a result .So ,a much more low key NYE than I originally thought would be the case .Still ,when Ive finished watching the fireworks from my room , I can just jump into bed
