Wolf Creek Crater

The crater was created 300,000 years ago when a 50,000 t meteor became a meteorite. Officially second largest behind the crater in Arizona. It has been steadily filling in but well worth the look.Lue lisää

Geikie gorge on Fitzroy River quick stop on way back to Broome/Derby.
Derby

Derby is a small town with a 50% indigenous population, crime rates are high. Derby was our staging point to Horizontal Falls and the Gibb River Road.

Mount barnett road - Gibb River Road

No visit to Derby would be complete without a quick run along the Gibb River Road. As the road had recently been graded it was more like a highway than a 4WD trip.

Horizontal Falls

From Derby we started our Horizontal Falls adventure where the bus collected us and whisked us to the local airport and sea plane flight to the falls.

Barnhill

Derby back to Broome now heading south with Nan and Pop well and healthy.

Marble Bar

Marble Bar, the hottest town in Australia. Named for the distinctive rock bar that crosses the Coonhan River. The rocked was later discover not to be marble but jasper.

Karajini national park

Karajini national park. A series of cliffs, gorges and waterfalls.
Walking included mountain goating, very picturesque, not a particularly hot day so very nice walks.

Township proclaimed in 1980 prior to this was mining camp. Average age 34. It felt a nice safe town.

Onslow

Port beach front town. Most cyclones crosses the coast here averaging two a year.

Exmouth

The next bucket list item is to swim with a whale shark. ✅. We swam with two sharks one about 7mtrs and one slightly larger. The day started with a reef snorkel. The array of fish was stunning. WhenLue lisää
Coral Bay

Quick stop at Coral Bay. Beautiful calm clear water. However day Overcast and two days of rain on the way so we will move on.
Blowhole

Blow holes about 70klm North of Carnarvon. Very rugged coast line with the Indian Ocean swell smashing into the cliffs.

Carnarvon

51 years ago we lived at Carnarvon so this was a nostalgic visit.
We went to try to find our old house, went to the tracking station, out to the blow holes and to Red Bluff.

Shell Beach

Nestled in Shark Bay is Shell Beach. Due to the shape of the bay the water is extra salty. A perfect environment for Hamlin Cockle shells and an unfavourable environment for their predators. Hence theLue lisää
