  • More of Rome

    17 September 2022, Itali ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Okay here's some more pics of Rome. I'm going to be honest because it needs to be in the journal and I might be hurting some feelings, but I found Rome to be overrated. It was just not the city for me. Rome is a HUGE city and has so much history and I was not in the mindset for that during this part of my trip so...oops. Lesson learned. I still met some awesome people and made the best of it!!!

  • When in Rome

    17 September 2022, Itali ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Omg. Tonight was so fun. This is what happens when you mix a Mexican, an Argentinian, a Kiwi, and 3 Canadians! Met in the common area and our group just slowly expanded. We went out for dinner to an Italian restaurant (omg it was soso good) and had probably a few too many laughs! The wine came in these HUGE jars. Then, we went back to the hostel for some salsa dancing lessons (I still can't salsa), and then Karaoke (sang hot n cold by Katy Perry)!!! Soso fun!!!Baca lagi

  • Escape to Naples

    18 September 2022, Itali ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

Detour to Naples! So I decided to escape to Naples so I could go farther to the Amalfi coast. Naples was like Rome but by the ocean which made it significantly better for me (all my personal opinion). It was still another big city but I just walked along the waterfront and enjoyed the chill day. I called and caught up with some friends back at home which was really lovely. Shout out to my Halifax crew! I will say Italian people are truly lovely. I was sitting on the sidewalk on the phone and I think a family thought I was homeless and offered me a piece of cake. I'll give the compliment rather than taking offense 😂 (I was wearing a Lulu skirt, t-shirt, hair in braids, and wireless earbuds so I really didn't feel like I was dressed for the assumption 😂)Baca lagi

  • Amalfi Coast

    19 September 2022, Itali ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Today's day trip was great :) I didn't get to do the hike I was initially planning but seeing the coast on a gorgeous day was great. There were cliffs everywhere with huge rock faces! My preference is definitely Cinque Terre because it is way less touristy and less city-like but hey, Cinque Terre set the bar pretty high. Beautiful last day in Italy!Baca lagi

  • Sorrento Swim

    19 September 2022, Itali ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Just wow! I hopped on the bus back to Sorrento and found this spot on the peninsula to swim!! And it's gorgeous 😍 the water was turquoise and the almost pool thing surrounded by cliffs was amazing. Definitely the highlight of my day 🤗🤗Baca lagi

  • Train Views!!

    20 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Just wow! Today I travelled from Italy to Austria! The views of the mountains from the train were GORGEOUS!

I had to do a weather check because when I got off the train, it was FREEZING! I went from the 30 degree Italy weather to 13 degrees in Austria! I was the only person still wearing shorts. Everyone else was wearing winter coats, hats, and mittens!! Oops...didn't quite pack for winter...Baca lagi

  • Welcome to Austria!

    20 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

IM IN LIVE WITH THIS TOWN!! Omg. It is such a small ski village with mountains 360 degrees around. There are pubs and cafes everywhere and Northface and Patagonia shops on every corner. The buildings are so colourful and the canal wrapping around the city is the perfect touch. I HAVE TO COME BACK IN THE WINTER!Baca lagi

  • Amsterdam in Austria!

    21 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Omg. What a day. This has been one of my trip highlights. Everyone meet Lena and Hannah! They are twins that I met in my hostel in Amsterdam and I'm staying the night with them in Innsbruck tonight!!! Today was sooo fun and I am so happy this gathering has worked out!

We started our morning at the 360 degree cafe where you were surrounded by gorgeous mountain peaks and stunning views. After walking around town, they made a traditional Austrian dish called Kaiserschmarren mit zwetschgen röster (I know it looks like a mouthful) and it was DELICIOUS! I will definitely be making it at home :) we used plums and cinnamon with a spin off of pancakes :)) yum. Then we went for a cycle!!! Sooo amazing just riding along the mountains and enjoying nature and just being outside. Soso great. (also fantastic that they completely outfitted me with their sisters bike, bike shorts, and shirt!!) We also thanked the farmers at dinner time for the couple of carrots and zucchinis we picked up along the ride 😂😝🫣 sooo yummy! We called off the day with some chilling and relaxing. What a day. Fabulous. Soso happy :) Lena and Hannah are two amazing friends that I hope they will come to Canada and I've already told them I'll be back for the winter season!!!

  • Breakfast Club

    22 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

Finishing off with a bang in Innsbruck by going to the Breakfast Club Cafe! It was so yummy, I had a rice pudding with this homemade applesaucey type thing at the bottom. YUM. So great to spend the morning before hopping on the train to the next destination!!!

Love these girls so much. They say I need to come back during Christmas 🤗 cant wait until they visit Canada!

  • Gelato Time!

    22 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Okay I know this is the post you have all been waiting for 😂 this is a collection of all the gelatos I have got this far in my trip :) highlights were definately pistachio and salted caramel 🤩 I'm posting this now because it's gotten pretty cold (end of September vibes) and I'm going north so it's only going to get colder...so I think gelato season is coming to an end. But you know what that means...CHOCOALTE time :) (you'd be fooling yourself if you thought I haven't still been having chocolate until now 😉🫣🤭)Baca lagi

  • BACK WITH MIA!!!

    22 September 2022, Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Yayyy!!! Do you guys all remember Mia?!?! I met her in Switzerland and now we are back together for Budapest, Vienna, and Prague!!!! Woohoo!!! Had such a great catch over tea time and ready to start adventuring tomorrow 🥰🥰

On the other hand, my train situation from Innsbruck to Budapest was a nightmare. My goodness. My 2 train itinerary turned into a 4 train ordeal with just about every train being delayed but still missing the next!!! Ahhh!!! I miss the Swiss trains (people getting mad at trains being 30 seconds late!). Anyways. Made it to the hostel and am happy to be here :))

  • 2 Weeks until Home Time!

    22 September 2022, Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

I also wanted to make a post marking 2 weeks before I get home. Because this is also my journal for myself to look back on, documenting my feelings is also important! But right now I am so grateful for the time I have spent travelling and all the people I have met. Meeting up with them now makes a full circle and it is so fun sharing our adventures from in between. So special 🥰

I am also so appreciative of the places I've been (13 countries this far!). I was on the phone the other day speaking out how much I have learned about what truly fills my soul and makes me happy. The mountains, being close to water, and a great community. I am not a city girl, i do not care for the big brands and the fancy cars and going shopping. I would rather be rough toughing through the woods and staying in mountain hostels. I have also really enjoyed staying at small hostels. I find the big, fancy, hotel-like hostels are difficult to meet people and create lasting friendships. It is the small, quaint hostels where you meet true backpackers that are out to see the world and explore.

With this being said I've had some time for some self reflection and long term living. I've visited so many of these places, imagining moving here. But through this, I have come to appreciate Canada and what it has to offer. I have come to appreciate all the space and land Canada has and the greenery of just nothing. Obviously I have more to see so this is a huge generalization but I find in Europe, you cannot go to remote places and see nobody because the countries are so small that when you drive 5 hours, you are in another country with a big city. So, you're welcome Mom and Dad, but if it is within my control, I will probably live in Canada long term (it is also really nice to be close to family).

So...with all of this being said, I love water, mountains, community, and nature. So where does that leave me...British Columbia!!! So hey we'll see. I'm just a 21 year old girl with the rest of her life ahead of her and so much more to see and do. But for sometime I hope (future self I hope you are reading this) that I will spend a good chunk of time in BC and enjoy being by the mountains and water and enjoying what Canada has to offer. It seems so suitable to what I have come to love and make my everyday amazing. (Deb I hope you still like me because that means I'll be coming your way ❤️)

One last thing I would like to note is that I am very jealous of my Austrian friends. Their school costs them about $300 a year and I am so jealous. Because with all of the money that I have worked and put towards my education, they have put towards travelling. So to this point, I feel like I am behind as they have done road biking trips, travelled all over Europe, do mountain biking, skiing, camping, rock climbing, and canyoning, literally anything outdoors, they have done. But hey, you cannot have it all and it just gives me more inspiration to try new things and venture more outside!

So that is my journal entry for this evening! I still have 14 days left in my trip so I have to make the most out of everyday and seize every opportunity I can get my hands on :)) peace and love to my readers and me! ❤️

  • Good Morning Budapest

    23 September 2022, Hungary ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We started out the morning by walking to the Parliament buildings (fun facts: it is the second biggest Parliament building in Europe!!). After that we walked along the canal and saw the Shoes on the Danube Bank. This was such a great learning experience regarding the devestation to the Jews in WWII. I had not realized how much of the Jewish population had belonged to Hungary. It was also really interesting learning about the roles of other countries like Switzerland. Very informative. It was also interesting being here after reading the Nightingale because the two were very much correlated. Then, we hit up the Central Market!! It was HUGE! A lot of meat and fresh produce on the second floor and then you can head upstairs where it's more arts, design, and clothing (everything hand made). The table center piece of clothes were incredible!Baca lagi

  • More walking!

    23 September 2022, Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

After the central market, we walked some more! In Budapest there are 7 main bridges. One of them (being the most monumental) is the Chain Bridge which was built in 1849!!! We visited the castle region of which there were many buildings I could not tell you the name of 😂 the most important one was the Buda Castle.Baca lagi

  • Margaret Island

    24 September 2022, Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Yesterday we were a little too productive ticking soo much off of our bucket list. So today we took a more laid back day starting at an island in the middle of the canal. It was beautiful. It was so green and great running/bike lanes. Nice to have the greenery so accessible from the city :)Baca lagi

  • Coffee Date

    24 September 2022, Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

So this is hilarious. Mia and I walk into Espresso Embassy and we head straight for the washrooms and I thought I recognized one of the girls sitting at a table. And it was Naya from my hostel in Florence a week and a half ago!!! 😂 What a small world and so fun to run into her in Hungary!!! She's from Australia and we had spent a night together roaming the streets of Florence and grabbing gelato together. What a great time.

Also PS this Chia latte was soooo good. Like just melts in your mouth and just the perfect drink.

  • Ruin Bars Budapest

    24 September 2022, Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Tonight we went out to the Ruin Bars in Budapest!! SO COOL! The concept of the ruin bars is that they are neglected pre-war underground buildings that have been turned into these character-filled pubs and bars that are unique and insanely hip! In the ruins, there are plants, graffiti, music, and multiple bars one after the other! Super fun time and a great atmosphere :)Baca lagi

  • Onto Vienna!

    25 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

    Next stop: Vienna!
We are leaving Budapest having loved the city and we felt that we made the most out of our time but...we will not miss that hostel. Mia was in a room with a bunch of guys, one man snoring so loud it was shaking the room and also sleeping and walking around the room naked 😵‍💫😵🤢🤮 I was up one floor and my room was fine but we had 1 bathroom that had one toilet with a shower to share between like 3 8-person rooms...so it smelled pretty bad and you really had to time it right to so you weren't waiting for someone to finish their shower!!!

So we are in Vienna and I feel so clean because I've finally had a shower!!

  • Dinner with no kitchen!

    25 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

So we arrived at our hostel in Vienna after having gone grocery shopping and there is no kitchen!!! AHH! So we were a little creative and actually made a YUMMY dinner. We cooked our noodles in 3 bowls in the microwave, added some delicious pesto sauce, and also added some feta cheese and pre-cook sausages! Not bad eh?!Baca lagi

  • Vienna!

    26 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Today we walked, and walked, and walked! I'll start with the highlight being the Viennese chocolate cake, coffee, and ice cream (ice cream was a free bonus!) The chocolate cake was soooo good and a staple in Vienna. Yum. I also really enjoyed going to the local outside market. There was so much fruit, dried fruit, teas, meats, and cheese! It went on for blocks and we smelt so many amazing mixtures of spices and deliciousness. Today we also visited the St. Stephens church which had a huge tower and beautiful organs. We noticed Vienna has so many buildings with a green dome. It's an architectural staple I guess. We finished off at the gardens close to our hostel.

So thank you Vienna. Another city. I will say the city is quite beautiful and has lots of character. But...tomorrow Mia and I have planned a day trip outside the city to do a hike 😝😋 so happy and excited!!!

  • Second night without a Kitchen!

    26 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

So yet again the creativity continues!! There is an app I learned about from previous travellers called "To Good To Go". You basically pick a restaurant or food chain and order a surprise bag for the evening to pick up when they close. The bag contains food that the restaurant didn't use and gives it away for cheap instead of throwing it away. Sooo we did that for one "serving" and got sandwiches and an apple fritter. Amazing for 1.5 euros per person!! Then we also made our own salad (DELICIOUS) with arugula, nectarines, feta, and a pesto sauce. YUMMM.Baca lagi

  • Meeting up with Paris Friends!

    26 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

OMG!!! Sooo fun!! Through our group chat we made August 18th from my 36 hours in Paris, I found out the two girls I met that one night in the hostel were also in Vienna!!! So they came over to our hostel and we had a great evening catching up and just chit chatting about the past month and a half! So great to reconnect with Dshamilja and Birte 🥰🥰 they are from Germany but Dshamilja is living in Switzerland now :)) LOVE! They have great travels ahead of them and I am hoping the group chat stays active :)

(Also just randomly ran into a girl I met at my hostel in La Spezia - being completely honest I recognized her face from somewhere but had no clue where I'd met her 😵‍💫😂 too many faces in so many different places!)

  • Viennese Mountain Hike

    27 September 2022, Austria ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

Today's hike was amazing in all. We took an hour and a half train outside Vienna to Puchberg am Schneeberg which was on the eastern border of the Viennese Alps. The mountain we hiked was the highest mountain in lower Austria (just realized that after the fact 😂 - 2650m). We hiked about 21 km with 1200m of elevation (again only realizing this after we had already done it 😂). At the top it was SO windy! Craziness and lots of laughs. Then, on the way back down, we stopped at the mountain restaurant and got one of the best apple struddles I've ever had and a warm hot chocolate (everything was wet and the wind really sealed the deal). It was so yummy omg. We also had an Austrian cake and another strudel filled with a cream cheese mix. Also delicious. Finally, the hut also had a mountain dog 🥰 my heart ❤️

Overall, probably the most unprepared I've been for a hike but was soso great and had a blast. Would do it all over again and shared so many laughs.

(Context: the guy was 19 and from Germany. He had breakfast with us and we invited him to join. Nice to have an extra person and some new stories to hear but I think by the end of the day we were okay to go out separate ways 😂😬)
