Some impressions of our first day

Sweaty and tired we strawled through a bit of bangkok. Even spotting a royal in real life (tomorrow is the big celebration of the kings birthday and there is pictures of him all over town). And we put in a nightshift to see some of the craziness bangkok is also famous for.Read more

Getting in the zone

Well different timezone, skipping a date and than being dropped in a different climate, the body says WTF! Some deal with it by sleeping others enjoy a cocktail in the perfect evening air

Amazed by the smoothness

Everything is so well organised clean and easy! And just relaxed and fun. So now we are trying the train for the first time. Leaving Bangkok and heading towards Ayutthaya.
Traveler Looks like a western European airport but is “just” a train-station and not even Bangkoks main station…

Some first impressions of Ayutthaya

This former capital of the ancient Siam (former name of this country before Japanese occupiers started calling it thailand) from 1350 to 1767. Only ruins remain from this former thriving centre of trade, art and culture. But what remains is breathtakingly beautiful. It used to be all golden and full with i don’t know what rich decorations. Visiting some of the monumental site and tempels but doing that powered by ourselves. Much more pleasant in this hot and sticky weather.

Wai yai Chaimongkhon temple

Brick structures from the 13th century that originally where all covered in white plaster and gold decorations. But the pure beauty it has now after wars and centuries of weather is truly beautiful and humbling. Some sculptures are dressed in gold for the occasion of the kings birthday. They were just busy removing the yellow fabric decorations from the roof of the Stupa as we were sitting there.Read more

It supposedly lost its glory but personally I appreciate this rough and pure beauty more than all the shininess. But the Burmese where pretty thorough in decapitating the Buddha sculptures. Bizar! Some heads got lost in threes. Others were reattached. Most of them sit proudly but headless.Read more

Moving hotel

Tonight we take the train to chiang mai. Aprox 900 km and 13 hours. We booked the option sleeper with airco for yes yes 22 euro pp! What an indulgence. And an indulgence it is. We start with “royal” seating in a nicely cooled compartement (airco is an absolute must since it was extremely hot and humid today) and than the Stuart transforms our seats into a truely comfortable bed with view, sheets pillow, blanket and everything. On different stations food sellers enter the train and sell tot man plah, rice, grilled chicken and pork and a lot of other unrecognisable stuff. Sleep well!Read more
