    Here we go…

    December 4, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

From Zurich we flew directly to Bangkok. The flight was very quiet and pleasant. Once we arrived in Bangkok, my stepsister Nene picked us up.
To my great surprise, my father was also there. We were not supposed to meet until 6 December in Mae Rim... the surprise was successful, the meeting was overwhelming!🥰🥰

Together we explored some beautiful places in Bangkok.

    Bangkok

    December 5, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Day 2: We explore the metropolis of Bangkok. Nene and Steven take us to the most interesting places. In one park I was able to get very close to banded monitor lizards, it was very fascinating.
We ended the day with a visit to the Rabbithole, where we got very delicious cocktails 🍹Read more

    Chiang Mai

    December 7, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Today we went to two completely different places:
We spent the morning at a flower farm (I love flower farm). At noon we went to eat at Nisa's restaurant, where we had a delicious noodle soup. In the afternoon we went to the centre of Chiang Mai. First we visited the market and a shopping hall. This was spread over 2 buildings, one on each side of the street, connected by a bridge. On the ground floor, mainly food and dried plants were offered. On the first and second floor only clothes and fabrics were offered.
Afterwards we visited Wat Chedi Luang in the old town.
One of the buildings was only allowed to be entered by men.
Like all the other holy places, it was very glamorous and golden.

We spent the evening in a cosy atmosphere. We got various kebabs (meat, fish), squid balls and rice and ate in our AirBnB.

    Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

    December 8, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Actually, we wanted to enjoy the view over Chiang Mai at 1700m, but it was so foggy that we couldn't see 50m. So we drove back down the mountain and visited Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.
To visit it, we had to climb 200 steps. From here we could also see Chiang Mai.

We had lunch in bamboo huts on a small lake. Around the lake there was a lot to see. We looked at figures made of straw, some of them were huge and could be climbed. We could also stroke sheep and give the little lambs a bottle of milk.

In the evening we were taken to a restaurant owned by the locals: Hotpot & BBQ. It reminded us strongly of a Rackette oven.

    Banrimtai School

    December 9, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Today we were invited to the 100th anniversary at Banrimtai School. It was very traditional and impressive. The children were very warm. They all waved, wanted to touch us and talked to us. Even though there are 3 teachers at the school who are not from Thailand (England, Canada and Spain) it is very special for them to have "white guests".

In the evening, Steve took us to a night market. There was a lot of different food, clothes and other gadgets.

    Maetaeng Elephant Park & Clinic

    December 10, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

My father picked us up at our AirBnB at 8am. He brought me half of a huge jackfruit that had grown in his garden. It was incredibly tasty and very juicy.

Today we went to an elephant camp. Don't worry, here the animals are neither chained nor are they treated badly 😊

At the beginning we visited a 27 year old elephant lady with her 1.5 year old baby 😍
One of the staff members told us about the history of elephants, how smart elephants are and what they can be taught - for example, how to draw.
Afterwards, we made our own "food supplements", tapped on a root until it could be used as "soap" and prepared food for the elephants. We continued to the big grey giants 🐘😍. They were very trusting and affectionate. First they were given food and the "medicine". As soon as the buckets were empty, we went on to the river where we washed the elephants. We used the root as a sponge. As soon as the root came into contact with water and we started scrubbing, it foamed like soap.
One of the elephants was really very trusting. She kept snuggling up to me and didn't leave my side😊

Finally, we were served a really delicious lunch 🤤

In the evening we went to Chiang Mai to the night market. It was really huge! As it was not easy to get into town (a lot of traffic), we parked a bit outside and took a tuktuk to the market. There was really everything here...

    See you soon, dad ♥️

    December 11, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

It's time to say goodbye... today we went on to Phuket. But not until the evening.

At noon, my dad picked us up and together we drove to Long Neck Karen, a place where there were incredibly good drinks, but also elephants tied to a 30cm chain 😣.
You could also have looked at the women who wear many rings around their necks (long neck). We left quite quickly, however, as I found it sad to see the elephants chained up on hard concrete. I also don't think it's very nice when people can be looked at like animals in a zoo...
But it gave me an impression of what is not done for tourists.

We continued to Steve & Nisa's house. I said goodbye to her and her mother. Together with Nene we drove to a very special coffee shop. There we had to say goodbye to Nene.

Before our flight we went out for a last meal together.
Arriving at the airport, the goodbye was short but not painless... I am so happy that I could finally meet my father and spend a whole week together with him - the tears were already flowing 😭♥️

The flight to Phuket was quiet, we then took a very interesting taxi to the hotel. Just like the AirBnB, I can highly recommend this hotel!
When we arrived, it was already after 11pm. A quick shower, then it was already off to bed 😴

    Phuket

    December 12, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

Phuket - something completely different again. It is quite warm and humid here all the time. The sun is very strong, even if it hides behind the clouds. So it's no wonder that I'm already sunburnt.... 🥵

On the beach we saw many crabs from small to large, a snake and some lizards on the way to the beach as well as 2 very trusting and cheeky birds near our bungalow.

Towards evening, a small thunderstorm came up, it rained full throttle for about 10 minutes - but it still stayed warm 😊

    Big Buddha

    December 14, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today we went to the Big Buddha of Phuket, which we can see from our pool. Instead of a 1 hour taxi ride, we walked up the hill (just over 400 metres above sea level). It was about 34ºC, very sunny and as usual very humid. After a good 9km we finally arrived at our destination. The Buddha is very impressive! You can walk around it and through it. Inside, there are many flags hanging and various statues. It also has seating for the monks to meditate and pray.

There is also a great view of the various bays and islands from all sides. There is a warning about aggressive, biting monkeys, but we didn't see any. But what I have seen in the almost 2 weeks at all the holy places are tourists who do not follow the dress code (knees, shoulders, belly covered), but dress "correctly" to go in and undress as soon as they have reached the sights to take photos and videos. I also saw several times that monks were photographed with flash (on the one hand this is very unpleasant, on the other hand it is just disrespectful - they are not animals in the zoo... ).
Each and every local / monk I photographed I first asked for permission... imagine you are peacefully working and all of a sudden some run up to your office desk / workplace and just film and photograph you... 🙄 I find it very unfortunate that many people travel to a country and don't respect it....

After looking at everything, we walked all the way back to the hotel. The way back was quite slippery and steep. All in all, we covered just under 20km today 😊🥾
