    Hervey Bay

    23 января, Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Travel day. Had a nice drive to our next spot where we are spending a few nights at Hervey Bay. Our goal for this location is to hang out at the beach and have some "down" time. Just chill with a book. I think we'll be able to accomplish that. Its a long weekend here in Australia so this beach community is full of weekenders enjoying their break. Fun chatting with them as they are always curious about Canada and our travels.Читать далее

Today was soo what the doctor ordered. We started our day at the street market, took a lovely walk at the Urangan Pier. One of Australia's longest piers, stretching nearly a kilometre. Then spent the rest of the day swimming, beach combing and relaxing. It was absolutely lovely.Читать далее

    Yeppoon

    25 января, Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Most of our travel days have been about 3 hours between each stop. However, today and the next few travel days are longer on the road with about 5 to 7 hours. But at each location we stop at we have a few nights to explore. The reason we are stopping in Yeppoon is for the island trip that we're doing tomorrow. Its Great Keppel island. So with a big day set for tomorrow, we had a low key day in Yeppoon.Читать далее

    Visit to Horseshoe Bay Beach

    28 января, Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

First we stopped at a small swimming hole. Cedar Creek Falls. Took a little dip and enjoyed the trickle of the falls. In the rainy season this falls can flood some of the nearby roads. Aside from the barrier reef and the many breathtaking beaches, the Whitsunday area is also known for its sugar cane fields. So many acres. Quite spectacular landscapes. 3,700 farms and 22 mills. Then off to Bowen Beach. My ❤️ 💙 💜 💖Читать далее

    The Great Barrier Reef ✔️

    30 января, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I don't have alot of words (or pictures) to share about this incredible day snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef. It was one of my (our) most profound emotional experiences I've ever had (next to giving birth to my children)
The company Pure Snorkeling Adventures started us off with a 30 min presentation that explained everything you need to know about the reef and the life it holds and supports. Fascinating! I decided to not take pictures under water because they just don't do justice but mostly because I wanted to be in the present moment, fully aware taking in all the beauty.
Yes we found Nemo (3 of them). Although we didn't see any large fish or turtles our almost 2 hour swim around and through the reef was full of many other fish.
Absolute highlight of Australia. 🇦🇺 ❤️🐟🐠

    Whitianga

    4 февраля, Новая Зеландия ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Our 3 hour drive was through some beautiful scenery. However some of this area was damaged by the cyclone that went through here a few weeks ago. The accommodations that we originally booked was cancelled due to damage from the storm. So we changed our plans slightly and came to Whitianga. Its a sleepy little town located on the northeastern coast of the Coromandel peninsula. We love it. ❤️
After a walk around town we went for a geothermal dip. Its a 16,000 year old healing thermal mineral water, reaching up to 41°C. The area is filled with magic making the natural beauty even more enhanced with gems, man -made caves and bar service 😉

    Waitomo Glow Worms

    7 февраля, Новая Зеландия ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Waitomo Caves. Tourist trap but absolutely out of this world!!! "You can see thousands of tiny blue lights on cave ceilings, like a starry sky underground. These “glowworms” are actually the bioluminescent larvae of a fungus gnat species found only in New Zealand, called Arachnocampa luminosa. The caves formed in limestone known as Waitomo Greystone, created from marine sediments laid down in a shallow sea during the Oligocene, roughly 25–34 million years ago. As tectonic movement lifted the limestone above sea level, water seeped through cracks, slowly dissolving the rock and forming chambers, passages, stalactites, and stalagmites over millions of years". (Wikipedia) Our tour started with a walk through these stunning caves and ended with a silent boat ride to the stunning glow worms. Understandably so, there were no photos allowed and quite honestly I loved that. The boat ride was silent which enhanced the awe inspiring experience. So cool! The photos I have of inside the caves are from the website but are true to what we saw.Читать далее

    Napier

    10 февраля, Новая Зеландия ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

The stones and sand at Napier beach are black due to their volcanic origin and high iron content. These materials, known as titanomagnetite, are carried from volcanic regions (like the Taupo Volcanic Zone) to the coast, resulting in dark-coloured, iron-rich deposits that create the distinct black shoreline.
It gives it such a contrast to the aqua colour ocean.

Literally all day at the airport

    13 февраля, Новая Зеландия ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Part of flying standby can mean the possiblity of long waits at the airport. We were planning on getting on a flight today however the cabin crew of Air New Zealand is on a rotating strike. So flights have been disrupted. (We should have done our homework) So as a last resort we bought a confirmed ticket because it didn't look good for standby. The only flight we could get a ticket for was the last one out of Auckland. So....we spent the day walking the airport, having a meal and ALOT of people watching. 😳 Side note, the airport is pretty lame....🤣Читать далее

Lake Tekapo, Lavender Farm, Hot Springs

    17 февраля, Новая Зеландия ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

It was a full day! Started with a drive to the stunning Lake Tekapo. Its a glacier lake with turquoise water thats created by fine, suspended sediment (glacial flour) from surrounding glaciers. Our day was overcast with some rain so the colour just didn't show true in the pictures. Then we were off to a lavender farm and indulged in lavender ice cream. Decided to hit the hot pools and enjoy the scenic views of lake Takepo.
After having an amazing steak dinner we walked to our pier to watch the blue penguins (yes penguins in NZ!) come onto the beach from the water for the night. However sadly none came tonight, but there was a penguin in the rocks crying out. Sometimes the ones in the rocks come out at night on to the beach. The ones in the rocks are moulting. They were probably too embarrassed to come out. 😳 😔 😟
