Argentine Experience

We aren't sleeping well, but we're eating like Kings. Argentine experience was a interactive dinner. Seated with a whole bunch of people from United States, a couple of Argentinos and a Dutchie we all donned chef hats and had a fun night.

Starting with making our own Malbec based cocktail. Then we got our hands dirty by making our own empanadas and getting them cooked by the chef. Meanwhile we were served some delicious appetizers of chorizo, blood sausage, cheese, wine and more wine. Then our empanadas came out to have before the main of steak and root vegetables. A nice dulce de leche based dessert. We made our own alfajores. And finally taught the correct way to make and drink a maté. Or at least how to do it correctly here in northern Argentina.

All that before finally stumbling back 15 minutes to the hotel at 11:30 at night.Baca selengkapnya

Our guide initially doubted our choice to visit Paraguay, making it clear he wasn't a fan. This wasn't just due to the usual two-hour traffic jam at the lone bridge leading there but also because, apparently, there wasn't much to see and it's dirty. We had made arrangements the day before to leave early, so we were on the road by 6:30, fortunately avoiding the traffic. When we returned an hour later, the traffic jam had already grown to an hour or so. The only thing he had planned for us was a visit to a shopping mall because Paraguay offers affordable shopping due to the lack of taxes. Ironically, leaving early meant the entire centre was still closed. Thankfully, Alex and I had no interest in shopping, so instead, we explored the streets. PelancongIt was a really fascinating experience though so I am so glad we went!! Just learning so much about the regional politics, seeing the crazy driving, the amount of people with guns, the crazy shops ( I think it’s the largest or second largest district of shopping centres in the world ). It was like India meets South America. We were lucky our guide knew how to beat the traffic and he made it a fun experience - we even helped him pick out some stuffed animals for his wife and daughter.

Itaipù Hydroelectric

Everyone had heard of Three Three Gorges in China. Well before that, Itaipú held the record for the most amount of hydroelectric energy produced, is still second and one of the seven engineering wonders of the world.

What was also very fascinating to me was the way that both Brazil and Paraguay both maintain half of everything. This is actually it's own territory between the two countries. 50% of all staff is Brazil and 50% Paraguay.Baca selengkapnya

PelancongYeah they are! There were about 20 in that one area. I have no idea what the art thing is, they didn't explain it. But they were wild, easily bigger then an average sized dog. I wish the bus stopped so we could get a better photo, but I'm assuming they just take it for granted now and keep driving as nothing special.

The only place, so I'm told, that you can see two wonders of the world in one day. One engineering wonder this morning, and one of the natural seven wonders this afternoon. Iguazu is the border between Argentina and Brazil. This afternoon we viewed the falls from the Brazil side. Most of the falls are on the Argentinian side, so from Brazil you see all 200 and something of them. Walking along the cliffs on the side of the river you get to take in just the magnitude of this location. All the way to the end where you get to walk out in front of the falls and get a feel of its refreshing, and unavoidable, mist.Baca selengkapnya

Afternoon drinks

I didn't really understand the appeal of this hotel yesterday. Weird uncomfortable pillow, no wifi in the room... But then we came to the rooftop and it made sense then. A perfect place to sort our photos and have a couple of cocktails, and beers! (That were delicious actually).

Jungle Restaurant

I'll start by saying this was one of the most incredible experiences I'll ever have in my life. The beauty and power of this spot was unlike anything I've ever experienced. No picture or video will be able to capture the essence of this place in the form of scale or ferocity.

At one point Alex told me to stop and put my phone away, take off my glasses and we stood there on the edge of the fall with the mist spraying over us and the moment just made us cry. Iguazu from Argentina

Devil's Throat was definitely the main attraction. But there is so much more here as well. Any one of these waterfalls in Australia would have people hiking for hours to see. Here there are over 200 and each as incredible as the next.

Yesterday when we were on the Brazil side, I thought how much better could it actually get. There we were, seeing all the falls at the same time, I couldn't understand how standing on top of the falls would make them better. But I was so wrong, it was incredible to be up close to these falls. It's the low season at the moment so the number of people was very low, for large parts of the walk it was just Alex and I (our guide was a quick walker).

There is a cute little train you catch to get it to the end of the park. It's a bit squishy first thing in the morning for those with big bums, but still a beautiful ride through the park.

The upper trail takes you over the top of the waterfalls, then the lower tail is in the middle where you can get closer to the middle of the falls.

We met many Coati, who's normal diet is berries, fruits and insects. However they have a preference for burgers and chips. And very naughty, yet pretty, birds.

We couldn't ask for more perfect weather actually. Sure it was a little overcast, but that kept the heat down and great for photos without the sun getting in the way.

A remarkable location, deserving it's right to be one of the seven natural wonders of the world.Baca selengkapnya
