  • Hild Hostel

    August 17, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ 🌙 -6 °C

We stayed at a campsite with cabin tonight. It's difficult to find cheap accommodation in this area for four persons. And actually, this hostel is not cheap but the facilities are comprehensive. The only drawback is that the cabin is not located near the common toilet. We have to walk several minutes in open space to the common toilet. It would be nice in good weather but it was sill raining.Read more

  • Dettfoss and Selfoss

    August 18, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

The whale watching trip was cancelled. And, the weather was bad. What to do now? We adjusted the itinerary and drove to Asbyrgi because we did not want to skip this most powerful waterfall in Europe. The second half of the road was very bumpy. This waterfall itself was very spectacular but it's too bad that the weather was very poor. We almost couldn’t see anything and do any hiking at all.

Just several minutes of walking distance away, they was another waterfall which was very peaceful. A big contrast to the previous one. Nevertheless, the weather was so bad that we could only be able to take a short walk and took a look of the waterfall and then went back to the car.

There was not a lot of options of accommodation at Husavik. We stayed here tonight. • Aldeyjarfoss

    August 19, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 7 °C

Because of the cancellation of the whale watching trip, we suddenly got a free slot this afternoon. After visiting Godafoss, I suddenly remembered that I found that I have bookmarked Aldeyjarfosson on my map but didn’t actually plan to visit it. With free time now, why not give it a try?

This one is surely one of the hidden gems. It is located about a further 40 minutes driving towards South from Godafoss with gravel road, but it definitely worths the drive. It's so remote that almost no tourists here. And the waterfall, together with the surrounding area, makes it the most impressive waterfall in Iceland.

It's another day of long hours of driving to the eastern Iceland. We stayed at Lava Water today. The accommodation was very homely with well equipped kitchen and first class setting in everything. Great! We chose this accommodation for its location near the Snaefellsjoekull National Park. This area is perfect except that the nearest supermarket was about 1 hour away. Need to get well prepared first.Read more
