Rothbury to Usway Burn Cheviot

17.1 miles. Hearty breakfast and we were off along the River Coquet. Some Road some footpath got us moving quickly through Thropton and onto Sharperton for a quick stop before the bridleway took us across the river. Opted for flipflops. Onwards past Harbottle and on a lovely path past a lime kiln to Alwinton and the pub. Had a drink and some packed lunch and then started off speedily up Clennill Street- a delightful grassy Roman Road. It led onto a metalled forest road harder on the feet but quick progress. We rounded the corner to where we had planned to camp and saw a fantastic pool in the river below a waterfall. Heaven. Quick skinny dip( a first for Helen) we were hot but slightly cooler air temperature now. Popped the tent up in a perfect location.Read more
