Year off around Australia

Roger and I setting off in the Dmax Ute with our Goldstream caravan in tow to explore our country Read more
  • Pyramid Campgroud Site 7

    Jul 27–29, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Arrive and find our booking site 7, we take our time in working out how we want to position on it as it feels to us if we did the straight back in we'd have the built in fire pit on the wrong side of our van! We work it out to suit us - just means we'll unhitch the ute, as we're here for 2 nights not a worry. Once set up (awning out etc) we have our lunch, cold meat sandwiches for Roger, avocado, relish, ham, tomato and cheese open toasties for me. Next we get ourselves sorted to go walk in the Gorge, I get prepared to swim (bathers on, towel) Rog feels it's too cold so he doesn't. Nice moderately steep (lots of steps) walk to get into the Gorge- just stunning. Had met people who were coming up who said it was worth having a swim.....so we did (Roger in his jocks). Just beautiful (yes 'bracingly' cold - but fine once you settle to it). Stay in the water for 1/2 hour or so, before drying off and heading back up to our camp - nice workout! We get changed, I decide to do the other designated walk, 'the rim walk' which takes approx. 45 minutes. Roger happy to stay at camp in the hammock reading a crime book. When I get back, we decide it's time for drinks and nibbles - so dip, pickles, cheese and biscuits with gin & soda.
Relaxing enjoying the tranquillity, have had enough to eat so decide to have a light tea. Roger eats some more leftover roast, then we both have fresh pears with yoghurt. In the evening/dark we go for a wander about to see what we can find in the way of nocturnal animals - no luck seeing any Rufous Bettong (the largest of the native rat-kangaroos - adults 40cm high) tonight. Back to camp for our cuppa and some chocolate (Cadbury Black Forrest). Nice early night to bed to read for a while.
Sunday morning, very relaxed - get up around 8am, have our usual separate breakfast choices (yes porridge for me!). Then we both go and do the rim walk. Get back, I head on to the Pyramid lookout to see if I can get mobile service, Roger stays at camp to relax, read in the hammock. I get back, relax too. Lunch, again our usual, Roger cold meat and salad sandwich and I have another couple of open toasties and we finish off the block of Cadbury choc. We decide to continue to relax and read our books until 2pm. Then we'll go on a walk back into the Gorge. This we did, just a wonderful calm, mild afternoon for it. Once we get back, enjoy a drink, then I have a shower in our caravan while Roger prepares our tea. Sausage casserole made up with his plum sauce mixture with fresh vegetables and some broad beans lol. I make up a date damper for our dessert. A lovely meal around the camp fire on a perfect evening. Calm and mild. Next tidy up, I do dishes while Roger has his shower. Now time to relax before reading in bed and bedtime.
Monday morning, awake around 7am, but leisurely start - no rush as it's move on day, and our day's destination isn't far. Have our breakfast, porridge, tidy up and are underway by 9am. Heading to Richmond and we'll call through Hughenden first.

  • Richmond

    Jul 29–30, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

Arrive and go straight to the RV Park in town to fill up our caravan's water tanks. Decide this will do for our camping spot and choose our site. Leave the ute connected to the van. Go for a walk intending to go to the information centre to pay for a couple of nights camping...we end up wandering the other end of the main street and purchasing some grocery items from their Spar supermarket. This makes us decide to go back to our caravan and we can have some lunch. Same as usual for us both - sandwiches for Rog, toasties for me! Now we walk back down the street to have another look around and get to the information centre this time. Check out historic display and call into Kronasarus Korner (info centre & Cafe, gift shop) and pay $10 for our stop tonight. The $10 would give us up to 3 nights, but we've already decided 1 night in Richmond will do.
Check out the caravan park beside the lake and then turn back to continue along the main street past the hotels. Look into the other supermarket available, before deciding to go and have a drink at one of the two pubs. We choose the busier looking one, and enjoy a couple of drinks here, chatting to the lovely young bar attendant a girl from Ireland. Head back to our caravan - just going to relax here for the rest of the day.
Tea tonight is Florries and boiled vegetables - very good! After tidy up, while Roger has his shower, I start looking into a Horizontal Falls tour - get a wake up on the fact the overnight one Rog and I want to do stops running for this year (season) on the 21 September! Otherwise you wait until it starts up again in April 2025! That's decided - we're booking for the 21/09/24. Most expensive tour I've ever booked - going with it though as we've saved, budgeted for this, absolutely on our 'bucket/must do list'. Unfortunately, after quite a few tries online, I don't succeed in getting this done - so I send a request for assistance email and get to bed. Roger well and truly asleep.
Tuesday morning sees us in no rush, even though we're awake before 7am. I read for a while, then we're both up having breakfast - porridge with banana for both of us. I have a shower while Roger makes sure we're all ready to leave. Next go for a walk together - to go around Lake then down the street to the Spar supermarket. Get some grocery items then on the way back to our van, call in at the 'Treats for your table' Cafe. Lovely home cooking/baking with great coffee/ hot chocolate. Roger has a caramel slice with a cappuccino and I have a sausage roll with a hot chocolate. Whoops I missed a chance to try a Mushy Pea pie! Back to our caravan and I make a call to follow up on my email about the Horizontal Falls tour. Get this sorted and booked - money paid, so will think of travel insurance next...
Getting on towards 11am so we can move on to our next destination approx 110km away. Corella Park Farm Stays does not welcome arrivals before 12 noon!

  • Corella Creek Farm Stay

    Jul 30–31, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Arrive after 12 noon phew! $35 for a powered site ($28 for unpowered) - we take that. Settle our van in position (eventually, as Rog tried - unintentionally - to hog viewing and fire position from older couple who parked just before us). Sorted, and glad we got power as we're partially in the shade.
Once happily in positions, Dick and Pru (the older other campers) invite us to have a beer with them, we do, and return the favour while we're with them for a chat. Next head to our van for lunch, reheated sausage casserole, then take the first turn at the 2 outdoor Artesian baths. Lovely and warm, spend 1/2 an hour in while sharing a bottle of bubbles. Dick and Pru go after us, in the meantime a family has arrived with their caravan, parents and 2 young boys, they settle in (round up the wagons formation happening) and they enjoy getting into a outdoor spa bath. Afternoon passing with us all separately relaxing in our own space. Roger in our Nakie hammock reading, I'm writing this after I've made a double batch of date damper for Rog to cook on the campfire tonight. Time for me to read my book too. Another older couple arrive with their caravan, they are positioned 'in the back' behind Dick and our caravan's. Roger cooks up the goat chops panfried, and serves with boiled vegetables. We both feel we prefer lamb chops (flavour) though quite happy to eat these ones - just abit tough but Rog feels that may be his cooking method! By now all campers sitting around a communal campfire. This is where 'Farm Stay' shows as our hosts Georgi and Eric have a pet cow (fully grown) and pet goat (young kid) come and join us around the fire! Roger now gets the damper cooking - once cooked, slice it and offer, with butter, to share with fellow campers. Goes down a treat, all gone in no time. Another camper offers us some pieces of his fish patties - fresh caught barramundi 'wings' crumbed with a hint of curry - to try, very nice! Roger and I decide to take a night time Artesian bath - so we do for another 1/2 hour stint. By now everyone has gone indoors at their own camps, so certainly time to tidy up in our caravan and get to bed.
Wednesday morning sees me up before 7am to go for my 1hr 'shuffle' - just go along the road that goes over the nearby railway tracks (very straight) away and back. I get back in time for bacon, eggs and mushrooms that Roger has cooked up for breakfast. Have this with toast, relish and cheese. Roger has to move our caravan so couple parked behind us can get out to leave. We then finish our tidy up and I get changed, ready to be on our way. Say cheerio to Pru and Dick and leave by 10am. Heading for Julia Creek.

  • Julia Creek RV Rest

    Jul 31–Aug 2, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Arrive at Julia Creek and park in the main street to have a look around. Go to the Tourist Information Centre and enjoy looking at some of the displays there (very good) - decide we'll come back tomorrow to do some more stuff here. Continue walking along the street, I go into a Pharmacy and get a few items (cosmetics) and then catch up to Roger and we call into a cafe - end up having their 'today's special' a icecream sundae each - caramel for Roger, lime for me. I was a little disappointed for $5 each - only small serve of icecream with topping. Have a nice chat with another travelling couple we have seen along the way - they're also heading to Mt Isa for the rodeo, so we'll probably see them a few more times yet. Now go back to our ute and van, to drive to find some fuel, then we go to the bottle shop to restock on bubbles and beer. Next back the way we came into Julia Creek to go to the RV Rest Park. See the park caretaker, get our permit and then select our camp spot, making sure we have room for when Steve and Jenny Brown arrive later today with their caravan. Looking forward to catching up with them. they're on their way back from their holiday in Kurumba.
We set ourselves up, then have lunch - sandwiches and toasties. Relaxing waiting for Browns to arrive, I prepare a date damper for us to cook this evening, and a nibbles, cheese and biscuits tray to have when Brown's arrive. They get here just after 3.30pm - so have a lovely afternoon/ evening sitting about camp catching up together. Roger cooks our tea on our campfire - pork chops with stir-fry vegetables. Steve and Jenny have their chicken stir-fry (reheated leftovers). We all enjoy the damper for dessert. Retire to our caravans to do our dishes - Brown's intending to watch Olympics on their TV, we're just usual routine of Rog has a shower, I write this, then bed.
Have set my alarm to wake me at 6.45am to be ready to go for a morning walk with Steve at an agreed time of 7am. Even though I'm ready in good time, Jenny let's me know at 7 that he's already gone for his walk....no worries, I just do an hour or so myself. Get back to have porridge with Roger and enjoy a leisurely breakfast sitting outside at a provided table near the water. Steve and Jenny now organised to leave - heading towards Longreach - so we see them off. Great to see them both - they're going well. I have a shower, then we leave - thinking we'll be in the Julia Creek Caravan Park next, doing washing etc. We park with the van in the main street and go to the Tourist Centre in time for the Dunnart feeding at 10am (tour $5 each, plus we paid the same again to watch a Mustering video with 3D eye mask!). After watch Duncan the Dunnart, we go back to our ute and van to go to the Caravan Park, get there and it's too early to check in (at 11am and it's 10.40) so we drive off to check out a Museum to fill in the time. Do this and then go back to the caravan park to find they're fully booked out for tonight (and onwards for a while). Ah ha - lesson here?? OK, to the laundromat to do 2 loads of washing, have our lunch in the caravan while we wait the 35 minutes it takes. Then collect our wet washing and head back to the RV Rest Park, get our same spot, and Roger puts out rope amongst the near by trees so we hang our washing to dry. Now relax for the afternoon. Roger reads, I work on our finance records and pay Roger's drivers licence renewal. He now needs to, within 3 months, get to a Australia Post outlet that can take his photo for his new VicRoads licence. He goes for a drive to Julia Creek PO, but not the right person available to take his 'mug shot'. We Rog gets back, more relaxing before tea preparation, crumbed snitzels with Sharon's parma sauce and grilled cheese on top with salad - mmm delicious! First evening I notice mosquitos about so I retreat into our van for the rest of the evening. Roger has his shower, heads to bed, I follow much later after starting to use 'TravelSpend' App - and playing 'catch up' filling in up to now expenses. Interesting to see our spending is averaging around $200 a day - this certainly in part thanks to Horizontal Falls booking and caravan insurance! Yes and fuel is a biggie too, and if we didn't eat it would be lower lol! Treat myself to watching another Episode (7 S1) of A Guided Age before sleep.
Friday morning sees us in no rush, up about 8am, breakfast and shower for me. While I shower Roger drives into Julia Creek to PO to try his luck again for his licence photo - not to be, suggest he goes to a bigger PO that has access to link with VicRoads. We get the caravan ready to move out - and then go and park in the main street of Julia Creek so we can have a final look around before leaving for Cloncurry.

  • Curry Merry Muster Festival

    August 3, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Attend this FREE event on the Friday and Saturday. The Friday we catch the shuttle bus 4pm into Cloncurry for the evening's entertainment is being held in there - with a street parade at 5.30pm. Followed by the main bull riding competition, then boxing tent feature at the Recreation Ground. We enjoy ourselves, and of course support the town and event, by having drinks and food while we're out and about. Catch the shuttle bus back to our camp after 10pm. Have a cuppa, Roger showers, bedtime. I watch some more of A Guilded Age on Paramount+ Prime.
Saturday sees us have a leisurely morning about our caravan, breakfast, tidy up and get organised to walk over to the event area for today's Rodeo events. Great day, weather perfect, for enjoying what's on offer to sit and watch. We duck back to our caravan for our meals (lunch - usual, tea - chicken with noodles and vegetables in Rog's plum sauce). Our drinks (beers) we have at the Rodeo using the drink tickets we purchased. Rodeo events finish around 9.30pm, hang around for a while to check out the live music, then decide to head back to our caravan. Cuppa, Rog showers. A bit noisy with music, so I decide to watch more The Guilded Age, I'm up to Season 2 now. I turn off around 12.15am. Band still going. Goodnight.
Sunday sees us up around 8am, breakfast, I shower, tidy up and pack away so we move out before 10am. Going to do some grocery shopping in Cloncurry and caravan water etc.
Next - aiming for Corella Dam camping today.

  • Corella Dam - west side camp

    Aug 4–7, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Check out the first couple of camp areas - closest to gate we came in through. Choose to come back to this spot to have 'water frontage'. Work out our position with neighbours (bus) so all happy.
Have our lunch - both of us have meat with salad sandwiches followed by some watermelon. Such a nice day, we'll just relax here for the afternoon....
Tea tonight Roger is cooking a lamb roast with roast potato, pumpkin and carrots on the BabyQ to be served with boiled brocolli and cauliflower and gravy. Very nice!
We then enjoy sharing a communal camp fire with the ' middle' campers Geoff and Janet, along with Andrew and Georgi. Very nice evening, weather lovely and the company just as good. While around the fire we have our dessert of Indian creamed rice (made from pkt) - great! Head back to our caravan around 9.30pm to do our dishes, tidy up, Roger shower and we're to bed.
Monday morning sees me get up 1st at 7am to go for my 'shuffle'. Gone for just over an hour, after looking around our camp area - beautiful spot. When I get back to camp, Roger's up and already had his breakfast, so I have mine ( yes porridge and cuppa tea). Get organised (Roger packs our lunches) and head off 9.30am for the day to go check out Mary Kathleen and Fountain Springs.
After checking these places out, we drive back to where we're staying and check out the Clem Walton Park camping areas further out than ours - very lovely, but not so caravan towing friendly - so pleased with where we are!
Get back to our campsite at Corella Dam around 4.30pm. Relax and have drinks and nibbles (some cheese, salsa and biccies). Roger pumps up our inflatable stand up paddleboard and then goes and uses it on the nice stretch of water in front of us. Next it's teatime, so Florries are on our menu tonight, Roger cooks them on the BabyQ, he has his plain, while I do up abit of salad to have with mine. Followed by dessert of watermelon and then remainder of last night's creamed rice. Dishes and tidy up.
Have another lovely evening around the communal campfire with the same nice folk, plus newbie camper beside us, Russell.
Roger and I retire to our caravan before 9pm. Shower for Rog, I'm just doing this before I join him in bed to read for a while.
Tuesday morning - starts off cool and dull, so we decide to take it easy (no plans to go anywhere today), leisurely breakfast of bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, relish and cheese on toast. Roger happily doing 'stuff' with the caravan maintenance and I'm trying to get the motivation to have my shower! Have my shower, then Roger and I just relax and read our books out under our caravan awning, enjoying our water views and constant birdlife on the go. Lunch is yoghurt and banana for me, Roger has cold roast meat salad sandwich. We continue to relax, reading etc and throughout the afternoon Roger goes stand up paddleboarding and I go for a good walk to see how close to the dam wall I can get by walking at the waters edge (made it to within approx 100m). Tea tonight is Stephen Brown's Spanish Mackeral that he gave us in frozen fillets. Roger makes up a cheesy vegetable bake to have with it. I cut the fillets into 5cm slabs and coat them in egg and dip them in seasoned breadcrumbs (pkt ) ×2 , then Roger panfries them on the BabyQ in a mixture of butter and oil. This turns out delicious meal! Another evening spent around the communal fire with Geoff, Janet and Andrew, Georgi. We're all leaving here tomorrow - so enjoy the company tonight. We're all back to our van's around 9.30pm. Shower for Rog, bedtime.
Wednesday morning sees me up just after 7am to go for my 'shuffle' - I follow the tracks to Clem Walton Park campground. By the time I get back at 8.30am, Geoff and Janet (in their big green bus) have already gone, and I'm just in time to say cheerio to Andrew and Georgi as they leave in their 'orange' Isuzu ute with their 'Essential' caravan. I have breakfast (Rog has porridge waiting for me), get changed and organised to leave too. Roger has us all 'in hand'. We're off at 9.30am - heading to Mt Isa next.

  • Mt Isa Caravan Park

    Aug 7–14, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Go and get ourselves sorted - paid our $200 for a powered site until the 14th August. We have site G10 which we're very happy with - nice size and close to all the amenities. Settle in, get 2 loads of washing going, $6 per load in lovely new washing machines (did a great wash) and I go use the CP showers. Have some lunch, leftovers and sandwiches. Now ready to go for a drive to Rodeo HQ to let them know we're available to volunteer (we've had no response from Roger's form filling and emails). Achieve this - with leaving our contact details with the Rodeo information ladies - who assure us that volunteers are needed and that the oppropriate co-ordinator will get in touch shortly..... Go down the street to shops, Roger has a few things to do. I decide to walk to the Tourist Information 'Outback at Isa' where Rog will drive and meet me. Enjoy a nice look here, decide not to book any tours just yet - in case we're volunteering next few days. Roger's done what he set out to do for today so we head back to our caravan to relax before getting organised to walk to this evening's town centre festival. Nice walk leave around 5pm, takes about 20 minutes, and we have a beaut evening with the festival activities - street parade, organisation's (ie kinder and schools) food and produce stalls. I enjoy a steak Burger and bottled water for $13 (Roger ate abit before we left our van) and we both enjoyed the kinder's take on waffles (the works!) $15 each. Now seated in a 'beer garden' area of the Civic Centre - watching the music artists - really good entertainment! Both Rog and I didn't take jackets and we're caught out with how cool/cold the evening has become. With this in mind we just held out to the music sets finish and decide to watch the main fireworks display ( a small display earlier at 7pm) as we walk 'home'. This we achieve - the fireworks were great! Now time 10.45pmto have a cuppa and warm up before bed.
Thursday sees us without any request for our volunteering....so today will just be a relax and tinker day! Breakfast and lunch our usual caravan 'dos'. Roger shoots off about town doing some stuff he wants to get done, I just catch up on 'computer stuff' and my budgeting books. Tea tonight is chicken snitzels and salad. Roger decides to use the camp kitchen oven for some golden syrup dumplings - first cooking 'fail' Rog has had in ages! Didn't turn out as we know they should - we still ate them anyway (thermomix custard helped!). Time for a quick drive to the town lookout - good thing to do. Back for Rog to have his shower, I watch some more The Guilded Age (S2 E 3&4).
Friday sees us still not contacted re volunteering - think we're both happy (thanks to Cloncurry Rodeo ❤️) to just let this slide. We have breakfast, I go have my shower. Roger gets online (the way of it nowadays) to make a booking for the underground hospital tour at 1.30pm - gets it. Now we go for a drive - Roger wants to go to St Vinnies ( something he's looking for!) and looking for a shop that supplies rubber that he could make a mudflap out of.....no luck yet, so we do a Woolies grocery shop. Next go looking for the Bakery that other travellers have recommended- we find it Grant's Pies & Cakes. Yes it's GOOD! Very busy too (good sign). Get a loaf of bread and our today's lunch. Curry pie and apple turnover for Rog, sausage roll and caramel macadamia flan for me mmmm yep! We're early, but we arrive at place for our Underground Hospital tour. Good spot to relax and fill in time, help yourself to a cuppa and sit in the shade of a veranda with a nice breeze. Tour is a goodie. After this we try the Mt Isa lookout again (did earlier today too busy) - get a park this time so check out the daytime views. Back to our caravan - relax time for me, Roger's working on replacing the mudflap that came off the caravan along the Birdsville Track (few weeks back now!). Have a lovely evening, tea tonight chops and stir-fried vegetables., then Apple Crumble Roger cooked up in the airfryer. Usual tidy up, Roger has his shower and I have a nice phone chat with Raelene. Bedtime and I (we) watch a couple more episodes of The Guilded Age S2.
Saturday sees us up after 8am, leisurely breakfast, then Roger's tinkering with caravan 'stuff', muttering about loose wires and poking about in the fridge (which he cleaned and rearranged yesterday?). I have a lovely 'face time' whatsapp chat with Sharon. Next we get organised to go for a drive to check out Lake Moondarra. Roger packs food so we can make our sandwiches out and about. We take bathers and paddleboard (to inflate) if we decide to get on the water.
Return from our nice drive. Roger needs to rest as he's gone and caught a cold, and it's making him feel tired etc. I organise tea tonight - Thermie pasta dish, followed by remainder of Apple crumble. Rog has shower and continues to rest/recover. I tidy up, early night to bed - finish watching S2 of The Guilded Age. Enjoyed this.
Sunday - definitely a 'rest day' - hopefully Roger over the worst of his cold. He cooks us up bacon and eggs for breakfast and tidys up while I'm off having my shower. Tegan calls (on Whatsapp) lovely hearing from her quite regularly. When then relax under our annex, Roger reading, and plotting and planning more of our trip. I make a few phone calls- Stacy, Jenny, Barb. Great to have a catch up.
Sadly Stacy's Nan is not well, so thinking of her and family.
Lunch we have at our caravan - leftover pasta reheated in the microwave. Go for a drive into Mt Isa shopping area to go to Coles to restock on groceries, then we walk around the CBD checking out what shops on offer etc - of course very quiet on a Sunday afternoon. Roger drives back to the caravan park, I choose to walk the 20 minutes back for a bit of exercise. Now just relaxing, reading etc. Tea tonight Florries with salad. Usual evening routine, tidy up, Roger goes for a shower, then early to bed - both reading.
Monday morning - I have a lie in reading my book Dating Game Danielle Steele to get it finished 9.30am. Rog up around 8am has his breakfast etc. When I get up I have my breakfast, then we go for a walk together to the Tourist Centre 'Outback at Isa' to have another look. While there, we see if we can change our tomorrow's booking to do the mine tour to this afternoon - we can, yay! We check out the Mine Museum (no cost, part of the tour fee) before walking back to have our lunch at our caravan. Ham and salad sandwich for Roger, and open toasties, mustard, avocado, ham, capsicum, tomato and cheese for me. We then tidy up and get organised before driving to 'Outback at Isa' to continue looking at the Mine Museum etc and taking our Hardtimes Mine Underground Tour at 2pm. Really good, finished tour around 5pm. I drop Roger back to our caravan, he wants to get tea prepared, so I can then drive to the pool to do a Aqua class at 5.45pm. Cost $11 for 45 minutes, friendly class with 9 of us (2 male) and our instructor. Had fun with a good workout. Drive back to our camp in time for tea, sausages and vegetables casserole done with plum sauce - yum. We have showers, do dishes and relaxing before bed.
Tuesday 13 August. Get up around 7.30am have our breakfast, Weetbix for Roger, porridge with a pear for me. Washing and cleaning today - so I strip the bed, finally including the doona cover this time, and go and get 2 loads of washing happening. Not a long wait (15 min) until I got the 1st washing machine, and would've been less than 10 minutes after that the other machine was available too. Roger dusting, cleaning and washing the caravan floor in the meantime. Relax then, while we wait for the clothes etc to wash. Once the washing hung out on the caravan park's clothesline, we decide to go for a walk to Granty's Cake & Pie Bakery to get our lunch. A real spoil - Rodeo pie and custard donut for me, Curry steak pie and cookies and cream muffin for Roger - with cold drinks. The Pies are amazing, treats were a bit big for us after them! We needed the walk back to our caravan for sure (5km round trip). Get back and our washing is dry, so I make up our bed and we get our washing folded and away. Next we drive down the street to stock up, drinks. groceries then fuel. We'll be right for take off tomorrow. We get back to our van and unpack our purchases, then decide we're warm enough to go for a swim. Nice little pool in the caravan park - water 'refreshing' as not heated. Next showers time and afterwards I start on tea preparation - silverside and vegetables with mustard sauce. Relax and then enjoy our tea. Cuppa time then tidy up. Relax and plot and plan together for tomorrow. I watch Federer Last 12 Days.
Wednesday morning, up around 8am. Breakfast, porridge made in my Thermie for me, Weetbix for Roger. I'll go have a shower, Roger will continue with tidy up and pack up ready for us to leave. We driving out at 9.30am, off to get fresh bread as we leave Mt Isa.

  • Mt Isa Lookout

    August 8, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Came for the drive to check out the night lights, very popular spot tonight. Had to park 'overflow' until others left.
We'll definitely have to come back and check out in daylight as well. Just a wonderful vantage point to check out Mt Isa city.
Came back during the day, afternoon of Friday 9 August. Yes the place to check out the 'lay' of Mt Isa.

  • Mt Isa Underground Hospital Tour

    August 9, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Arrived early for this tour, so enjoyed a complimentary cup of tea at lovely tables and chairs set up along one side of the verandah of the old building that was once used as the Maternity 'wing' of Mt Isa hospital. Use this time for a catch up call to Jen.
Our tour was taken by a nice 'bubbly' and knowledgeable (of this topic) young lady. Made this all the more enjoyable - really interesting to hear how this underground hospital came about - then later just got forgotten....to be restored to what we can tour today.

  • Lake Moondarra

    August 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Get here and do the advertised (sign) scenic drive around part of the lake. It is a large body of water for sure. Nice facilities provided around it in different areas (so choices where you'll stop). Next we go to its lookout and get out to walk along the wall that's been built to make it this lake.
Next drive back to our chosen picnic spot Transport Bay. Have our lunch and a rest, before heading back to our caravan in Mt Isa CP.

  • Wallaby Walk at Lake Moondarra

    August 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

While we are parked in Transport Bay, I figure I'll try and find a nearby walk. No swimming etc for us today - lovely spot for it, but neither of us that keen as not that hot. Lo and behold I find this one just 200m away. We've already had our lunch, and I can tell Rog is not feeling 100% (darn cold) so I suggest he finds a comfy spot to relax while I do this short walk (only about 800m itself!).Read more
