    Today walking led through extremely dry territory in a glaring sun that had no mercy. The worst was that nowhere was shade. The tiny bushes on steep slopes offered no respite from the incredible sun that shone on us from 06 in the morning till 07 at night. This is for me the worst thing about this hike, not being able to escape from the sun. We measure temperature in the shade, how do we measure temperature in non-stop sun for 12 hours????
    At around 1pm I found a small shaded "slot" in a curve and disappeared into it for two hours to then continue at three, walking until sunset which brought me into a valley with trees called "Barrel Spring" named after a half-barel with a spring running into it. One after the next the hikers lept into the bereits to cool off and wash. Lets not talk about the hygiene of this!
    I also met Honey Bee from Edinburgh today, a game ranger in the castle park on "leave of absence" to do the PCT. This small girl astounded me. In her pack she had a french coffee maker among numerous other utensils!    Leggi altro

    Schönes Griechenland

    Jetzt hat mich mein Weg ganz anders geführt als geplant, und ich lerne nochmal einen Teil Griechenlands kennen der mir weitestgehend unbekannt ist und im Frühjahr, ein Traum. Überall grün, blühend, duftend.
    Süsse Ortschaften mit kleinen Gassen. So klein, dass ich das rückwärtsfahren nicht wagte und prompt auf der gepflasterten Uferpromenade landete, da gings nur in eine Richtung weiter, Mashallah, zwischen Lokal und den Stuhlreihen hindurch, die Stromkabel über Sprinti wurden von den netten Griechen mit Stangen hochgehalten damit ich weiter konnte... Gott sei Dank hats geregnet und kein Touri war unterwegs. What a slapstick.
    Dann wieder Sonne am einsamen Strand und viel Spaß mit Ono und Eda aus Leipzig.
    Am südöstlichsten Fleck, mit Blick auf Athos fühlte ich mich wie im Adlerhorst.
    Hier sollte mal die Kleinstadt Kriaritsi entstehen, doch nach dem Straßennetzbau stellte man fest dass es zu wenig Trinkwasser gibt. Heute eine Ghost city mit atemberaubender Natur und ein paar Strandbars.    Leggi altro

    Pain

    As my PCT came nearer my greatet fear was that my arthritis of the joints, right knee and left hip would prevent me from walking.
    Already 10 years ago Margot encouraged me to not give up on my knees and do regular low impact sport. This worked well and as long as I move regularly, things are more or less OK.
    Well! The only sports of the last 7 months has been sitting in our SPRINTER as we drove through Arabia. This only aggravated my hip which joined the arthritis club just before we left.
    The first days of the PCT were hell! While the joints did well during the day, at night they "came back to roost" keeping me awake all night. But now, as I walk, both hip and knee are getting better and better, despite the heavy pack and long distances.
    At night I sometimes have to move the joints to relieve the pain.
    BUT I AM WALKING!
    Also the pain in my back from carrying the pack has disappeared as my back has become stronger and stronger.
    Arn't our bodies something incredible!

    Hitch hike into Julian.

    This morning I hitch hiked into Julian to buy some new shoes, waiting one hour untill a 73 year old lady gave me a lift on the back of her pick-up. She had to quickly drop off ice at home and so she proudly presented me her newly bought empty property in the desert and Trailer in which she lives with her dog. San Diego has become too expensive she said. I believe in this country there are many older people who no longer can afford an apartment and seek such a solution. But she was not complaining about life and was full of ideas of what trees she wanted to plant. How inspiring!
    After picking up some new shoes, and by god do they make a difference, the trail Angel "proffessor" drove us back to the trail where a whole group of hikers was passing the afternoon under a bridge. I decided to walk. My super new shoes and about 2kg less weight (which I had brought to the post office), led to a really good walking "flow" as I climbed 700m in the afternoon heat.
    Then suddenly directly next to my foot a fat rattler! Despite the fact that I was paying attention and expecting snakes, I had not seen him. I leapt screeching "oh shit!" And he didn't even rattle nor move. He was just sitting there, I think digesting his meal.

    Snakes

    Snakes are not my "cup of tea". But the nice thing about rattle snakes is that that they warn you with their rattle. But what if he is sleeping and doesn't notice you comming?
    Unlike the South African Puff Adder, who lies in the middle of the path and doesn't move, the rattle snake likes to lie in the bush directly next to the trail. And so it was that I was walking along in the late afternoon, when suddenly, directly next to my ankle it starts to rattle like crazy! I must have jumped 5 meters! There in the bush directly next to my ankle a huge big fat bugger, rattling and rattling. My heart beat was at 309bpm.
    But all this was topped yesterday. At 10:30 the sun started to beat down and I desperately needed a break in the shade. Within 100m there was only one bush big enough to make shade. I spread out my mat and unpacked my bag to have a snack. Then Matt joined me and we chatted, when suddenly out of the bush directly next to him we suddenly hear an incredible rattling. The Rattler was exactly 30cm from his back curled up in the bush. We lept aside. The snake was so pissed off that he continued rattling for another 5 minutes even though we were gone. The problem was how to get my things out. We slowly pulled on my tarpaulin making sure nothing fell off, dragging it 10 meters before repacking my bag. OH MY GOD!!!!

    But talking of snakes., a PCT hiker posted the following pictures of two male snakes fighting over a lady who was waiting in the bushes watching them.    Leggi altro

    Ich fahre über viele super schicke, vielspurige neue Autobahnen und Brücken, doch sehe ich dort kaum Autos. An den Randbezirken der Städte schießen neue Hochhauskomplexe aus dem Boden und Feriensiedlungen am Meer gibt es in Hülle und Fülle.
    Dagegen sehe ich in den dörflichen Regionen extrem schlechte Straßen, uralte Stromleitungen, verfallende Häuser, mit vor allem älteren Menschen, die mit alten Traktoren und ihren Händen die Felder bestellen.
    Und das Land hat eine Inflationsrate von knapp 50 % .
    Die Wahlbeteiligung lag bei 90 %! Wird ein Wandel kommen?
    Und immer wieder zurückgelassener Müll und zerbrochene Flaschen.
    Das sind die letzten Eindrücke die ich noch mitnehme aus der Türkei, einem Land, mit wunderschöner Natur und so liebenswerten Menschen.
    Und ungewollt lande ich dann, weil mich jede Nebenstrecke wie magisch anzieht Offroad und am Ende dieser Strecke haben sie einen Wall auggeschüttet, Ende der Reise ....doch ....es hat sich am Rande eine Umfahrung gespurt. Die Begehung sagt...ist möglich. Ha, Untersetzung rein, als die Räder durchgehn noch die Mittelsperre dazu und... kurzzeitig ein Rad in der Luft... dann bin ich durch :-)
    Das war doch ein nettes Geschenk. Und weiter gehts nach Griechenland.    Leggi altro

    Day 6, km 125, Stage coach

    At 05am the alarm called me. I am going to do this every day now. The early morning is the only pleasant time for walking. At 10 the sun is already massacring you. By this time I try to have complete 2/3 of my day's distance. Around noon I look for some shade (not very easy) and rest till 15:00 to then do the last 1/3 of my days hike. It is the only way to survive, and to reduce water consumption.
    Today the trail led lower and lower into dryer and dryer terrain coming down from 1800m to 700m, and the heat got worse and worse. On top of this the front skin of my left foot feels as if it is coming loose. I made a critical mistake by taking barefoot shoes (xero) that are super light but that I have never tested. The trail is extremely rough, strewn with rocks of all sizes. For normal shoes this would be a challenge, for my soft Xero's it is deadly. On top of this comes a ground temperature like boiling sand, which goes straight through the sole.
    By 11:00 I could no longer walk and found shade under a huge rock..At three I hobbled to arrive half dead at the road just as a trail angel arrived and offered me a lift. Oh my god, what a "God send"!
    I am now spending the night at a real stage coach stop on the edge of the desert and will hitch hike to Julian tomorrow morning to buy new shoes and get rid of some more weight. EG. I will send away my gas cooker and half of my clothes.    Leggi altro

    Day 5, km 101 Km !!!!

    Yea! I did it, I crossed the 100km mark today, actually wanted to go further, but my body didn't, and he's the Boss!
    As I walked, the terrain got dryer and dryer, cactusses started appearing and all river beds were without water. At one, I at least found a small pool full of mosquito larvae, but "beggars can't be choosers! This is a new section of the hike where water is going to become a topic. At present I am carrying 3 liters=3kg, I'm going to have to increase this.
    I started off the day with a guy from New Zealand, but as always after 30min he was gone. This is always sad, walking together is a great motivation but I am simply not able to keep up the pace of these young guys.
    The last water site was again without water and so I set up my camp on top of the empty cisterne.    Leggi altro

    Day 4 heading into Mount Lagoona km77

    Today again I started walking at sunrise and made it to mount Lagoona by 10am before the heat set in.
    Mount lagoona is 1800meters high and as I climbed up, the vegetation changed with pine trees oaks and maples appearing. I walked as the wind blew through the needles of the pines. What a wonderful world!
    Since then I have been sitting at the "luxury" french restaurant writing this blog . The only "french thing" was probably that they played "je t'aime" from the 60ties on the speaker system, again and again!
    Mobile reception on the trail is mostly non-existant and only available in villages, and then it is a question which provider you have, and it seems that with t-mobile I have the wrong one.
    Many have asked me how walking the trail is. 99% of the time I am walking alone. Despite 50 people starting per day till the end of may, each has their Tempo and distance per day, so everything spreads out and you are mainly alone, and when you do meet someone, they are passing you or you are passing them. A small conversation takes place and off you go again. The tent spots along the trail are quite frequent but usually only for one or two tents, so you never have large gatherings of hikers.
    So one is basically alone. But at least for the moment that feels good, I can walk the speed that my body needs, and stop when it wants to stop.
    After passing the hot period of the day in shade, at 16:00 when all the others went to the camping site, I decided to walk another 10kms and experienced the most incredible feeling of "flow". I was cruising along in cool evening air seemingly effortlessly until it started getting dark, when I discovered a beautiful tent site where I pitched camp.    Leggi altro

    Nein, Sprinti darf nicht auf die Fähre

    Obwohl die online Buchung erstmal durchging ... nehmen Sie mich nicht mit auf die Fähre nach Chios... nur 20 Minuten Überfahrt... Sprinti ist zu lang. Und das ist die einzige Fähre zwischen der Türkei und Griechenland. Ab dort ist es dann innergriechisch kein Problem.
    Ich falle erstmal kurz in die Depri... und jetzt... nach einer Runde Selbstmitleid und Wut, dass sich diese Türken und Griechen nicht endlich mal zamfinden können, nehm ich Sprinti an der Hand und los geht's, .... zurück nach Izmir und dann die Küste entlang gen Norden... und ich werde mal wieder reich beschenkt.
    Schlängle mich auf schmalen Straßen, durch kleine süsse kleine Dörfer und geschichtsträchtige Städte.    Leggi altro

    Day 3: Km 51, Fred Canyon

    Yesterday the heat nearly killed me and so I decided to start hiking at dawn today. As the day progressed it got hotter and hotter reaching 45deg C crazy heat, draining all the energy out of you.
    I battled up the 400m climb we had during the day again and again crossing Thomas, I was totally exhausted and with constant cramps in my muscles, despite taking magnesium and drinking, hold tight, 4 liters of water!
    In the afternoon I passed a flowing river and met Thomas there, resting in the little shade there was. When getting up to go, cramps shot through my thighs totally incapacitating me. Thomas had some Gatorade rehydration with him, I took it and and an hour later felt literally reborn. (I have since bought myself such a miracle powder!)
    With a totally diferent muscles, I walked the last 10kms.
    Coming the other way were approx 50 runners that were participating in a, hold tight, 50 mile (80km) trail run through mountainous rocky terain at 45deg centigrade. 1/3 were women!
    What a crazy country, half of the population is totally obese, and the other half is runnung 80km in the mountains at 45 deg centigrade.    Leggi altro

    Day 2 in Gods garden, km 26

    Already at 4am the first birds started to sing in the ice cold night air (probably 5 deg. C). With shock I realised that dew had been so intensive that the water had run off my sleeping bag and created numerous pools on and around my mat. Water and down don't really like each other!
    As soon as the sun rose temps shot up and within 20 min my bag and everything was dry. Within an hour we had reached 25 degrees and rising.
    The day got hotter and hotter, and to celebrate my first full day, it ended in a 300m climb.

    The first day of a long journey

    This morning I weighed my pack with food, and two bottles of water and screamed in shock. 18 kg! Despite all the packing and repacking.. so I am walking with about 18kg. The heaviest I have ever carried.
    I drove in an Uber to the border together with "Flow", a 22 year girl working in a bar in Michegan who just got back from climbing a 6000 in Tibet and has already walked the appalatian trail and the continental divide trail, AT 22 !
    How crazy is that!.
    Another man, had just come back from climbing a 6000m peak in alaska at -50 C together with his uncle. Before that he was working in an Australian mine and then sailed across the atlantic to do the PCT. This is a generation who works to live and is totally uninterested in career, family and house.
    I thought I would walk together with "Flow", that was very naiv, she started off like a porche and after 2 km I gave up. This is where I realise that there is a difference between 22 and 65, and so, during the day, I was constantly being passed by others. Quite a challenge for my ego!
    As we drove, the lady in the uber mentioned that she has never seen the region so green, the record snow also brought record rain, and so, instead of walking through an arid region I am walking through a flower paradise with a million different scents that I have never smelled before. Once again I am in God's garden!
    I stopped after 11 km after having filtered water at a stream and looked for a place to pitch tent. Nothing in sight, and so ended up "cowboy camping" on a flat rock with beautiful view over the mountains and valleys.    Leggi altro

    Wir finden für die letzten zwei Tage wieder sehr unberührte Traumplätze und genießen das Sein.
    Bevor ich Lisa zum Airport bringe machen wir in Izmir noch den Bazar unsicher :-) das macht Spaß!
    Schon a weng traurig, finde ich an dem Abend aber nen super schönen Platz in der Nähe von Cesme, wo mich die Fähre am nächsten Tag nach Chios und von dort weiter nach Piräus bringen soll.
    Als mich die kleine Fähre nach Chios... nicht mitnehmen will, da Sprinti zu lang ist, fall ich kurz in eine Depri.... so ein Sch... es gibt nur diese eine Fähre zwischen der Türkei und Griechenland, weil sich die beiden Länder einfach nicht mögen.
    So, erstmal hinsetzen, blöd schauen, mich bemitleiden und dann wütend werden, den Motor starten und Gas geben zurück nach Izmir und dann an der Westküste gen Norden.

    PCT- arrival in San Diego

    Today I arrived in SanDiego and the feeling is "oh my god, this is really happening"- HELP!,
    In the plane sitting directly behind me was Thomas Csencsitz from Graz in Austria. What a comfort, I'm not alone!
    We arrived at a hostel run by trail angels Scout and Frodo Mann who are dedicated to the PCT and open their home to 30 hikers every day from the beginning of march till end of may, cooking, advising and chatting and not wanting even a donation. That is absolutely incredible!    Leggi altro

    Der Tag mit dem Platten

    Wir schlendern durch Akyaka und als wir nach ein paar Stunden zum Auto zurückkommen, traue ich meinen Augen nicht.... Wir haben einen totalen Platten vorne links.
    Woher???
    Oh, der Wagenheber ist zu groß...
    Meine schlaue Lisa... "lass uns doch erstmal Luft reinpumpen" dank eigenem Kompressor kein Thema... das Loch ist gleich entdeckt und die Luft entweicht mäßig schnell.
    Rat kommt von mehreren Seiten, Hand anlegen will jedoch keiner. Schon sehr europäisch hier :-)
    Bis zur nächsten Tankstelle mit einem Schrauber daneben sinds nur 2 km. In der Türkei auch um 19 Uhr kein Problem ... und ... nach 1 Stunde (viele Glasscherben werden rausgepuhlt) ist er geflickt und wieder drauf, der Reifen.
    Kostenpunkt 200 TL, knapp 10 Euro.
    We are very lucky.
    Der Abend ist gerettet der Standplatz nur 10 km enntfernt.    Leggi altro

    On the road again halten wir am Straßenrand um Pinienhonig zu kaufen und haben mal wieder eine total nette Begegnung... sofort werden Maulbeeren frisch vom Baum gepflückt, wir bekommen Chai und natürlich mal wieder die besten Gözleme der ganzen Türkei :-)
    So ein nettes Paar... Kommentar von Lisa "a bisserl wie zamgwachsn"
    Hier ist es, als hätte man vor einigen Jahren die Zeit angehalten... Frauen treiben ein paar Kühe des Weges, Diesel gibts aus dem Tanklaster und an jeder Straßenecke wird Honig, Marmelade, Eingelegtes, frisches Gemüse, direkt aus dem Garten, verkauft. Das macht Spaß!
    Doch plötzlich ändert sich das Bild...
    Hier wütete vor 2 Jahren ein großflächiges Feuer, sogar Häuser brannten ab. Ein trauriges Bild, und doch, die Natur kreiert darin mit Blumen und Stauden schon wieder neue Schönheit.
    Am Abend finden wir dann ein Lokal (das einzige weit und breit) mit super Essen und Ambiente fußläufig zu unserem Übernachtungsplatz... doch als wir zu Sprinti, an dem scheinbar einamen Strand, zurückkommen ist hinter uns "big party" :-) gleich mehrere Familien, Grillen und feiern bis tief in die Nacht.... laut und auch sehr authenisch!     Entlang der Lykischen Küste

    Das Wetter wird schlecht, sehr stürmisch und immer wieder Regen. Wir fahren bis Kas und gehen für 2 Nächte auf einen idyllisch glegenen Campinglatz. Den liebten Mikel und ich schon auf unserer Reise vor 10 Jahren. Heute modern aufgepeppt, wie so einiges an den touristischen Plätzen der Küste, aber genau richtig für den Besuch vom Ort mit dem Bazar.
    Dann strahlt die Sonne wieder...auf gehts nach Patara mit demTurtle Beach. Hoch oben bei der Sonnenuntergangsdüne bleiben wir und genießen einen Tag am Strand, bevor wir wieder auf einer Nebenstrecke durch die Berge mit phantastischen Ausblicken nach Ölüdeniz, dem Turiort mit Traumstrand fahren. Da machten Mikel und ich damals einen Paragliding Tandemsprung vom Baba Dagi :-)

    Im Sauseschritt nach Antalya

    Nach dem, wie immer, langwierigen Grenzübertritt, sind wir dann am späten Nachmittag auf türkischem Boden. Das fühlt sich jetzt schon sehr europäisch an.
    Wir verbringen kurz hinter der Grenze noch einen schönen gemeinsamen Abend bevor sich alle, in alle Winde verteilen.
    Noch 1300 km bis Antalya, dort kommt meine Lisa in 2 Tagen an, um 10 Tage mit mir zu reisen. Also, los geht's Sprinti, das schaffen wir doch mit links.
    Lange Zeit fahre ich direkt an der Syrischen Grenze entlang. Wie sich die Menschen hier fühlen? Nur durch eine Mauer und Grenzzäune mit Sicherheitszone vom nächsten Dorf getrennt. Wohnen da Freunde, Familie....
    Wieder steigt eine tiefe Traugkeit in mir auf.
    Nach 700 km erreiche ich Adana, und meinen heutigen Übernachtungsplatz am Fluss.
    Am nächsten Tag geht es an der kurvigen Küste entlang deutlich langsamer. Sehr schöne Bergstrecken und Gegenden die nur aus Gewächshausern mit Bannenstauden zu bestehen scheinen.
    100 km vor Antalya finde ich dann ein freies Plätzchrn am Meer, zwischen all der Häßlichkeit der riesigen Hotelanlagen, sogar mit Sonnenuntergang.
    Und dann hole ich mein Lieschen ab. Die Freude ist sooo groß nach dieser langen Zeit.
    Wir fahren noch bis ins magische Cirali mit den ewigen Feuern und bleiben dort erstmal 2 Tage.    Leggi altro

    Der letzte Tag im Irak wird zum Geschenk

    Am Morgen besuchte ich noch den Gottesdienst in der Klosterkirche mit meditativem Sprechgesang.
    Diese wunderbare Stimmung begleitete mich dann bei der Fahrt durch die Berge nach Lalish, dem allerheiligsten Tempel der Jesiden.
    Und schon bei der Ankunft wurde klar, heute ist ein besonderes feierlicher Tag.
    Festliche Kleidung, überall Musik und Tanz und ich bin willkommen, darf an den Ritualen teilnehmen. Mir begegnen wieder einmal nur offene Herzen, Vereinzelt werde ich auf deutsch angesprochen. Es wird erzählt, erklärt und ich werde mitgenommen bis in den heiligen Tempel. Die Schwellen darf man nicht betreten, sie müssen überschritten werden.
    Welch schöne Erfahrungen das sind. Ich schwimme einfach mit.
    Und wie traurig und erschütternd, dass diese wunderbaren Menschen von 2014 bis ca. 2018 verfolgt wurden. Vergewaltigt, verschleppt, getrennt, ermordet, als Kindersoldaten verwendet, in die Sklaverei verkauft.
    Verantwortlich für diesen Völkermord gilt der IS.
    Hunderttausende Menschen sind geflüchtet und leben heute in Armenien, Georgien und auch Deutschland.
    Immer wieder unfassbar, wie grausam wir Menschen doch sind, und doch ... die Freude am Leben kann sich trotzdem immer wieder erneuern..

    Es grünt so grün

    Hier ist alles anders. Statt Kamele kreuzen jetzt Hühner und Rinder die Straße und die Berglandschaft von Nordkurdistan ist grüner als grün. Überall rauscht Wasser, die Hänge sind grün, es blüht und duftet.

    Bis zum Kloster Mor-Mattai. Eines der ältesten existierenden christlichen Klöster der Welt.
    Seit dem Ausbruch der Irakkrise bedrohte der IS das Kloster. Viele christliche Siedlungen der Region sind deshalb verlassen worden. Bis zu 17.000 christliche Familien flohen vor den IS- Kämpfern.    Leggi altro

    Am Ende lassen sie uns dann gegen Mittag alleine weiterfahren.
    Nach all den Mühen beschließen wir Bagdad auszulassen und gleich nach Nordwesten, nach Kudistan zu durchzustarten.
    Wir bekommen nochmals Militärschutz bis Samarra. Ab dort soll es dann alleine möglich sein, Inshallah.
    Samarra - nach Saddam Hussein 2004-2007 - zerstörten die Kriege zwischen den Sunniten und Schiiten die Stadt fast vollständig.
    1 Moschee mit der Besonderheit eines gedechselten Turmes (Ziggurat) blieb verschont.
    Weiter geht es nach Kirkuk. Eine Stadt in der man auch noch stark die Zerstörungen sehen kann, doch es gibt auch schon einige moderne Viertel, das freut meine Seele.
    Dann wird die Landschaft grüner und grüner. Regen begleitet uns für ein paar Stunden, bis zum Lake Dukan, unserem heutigen Übernachtungsplatz.
    Doch schon am nächsten Morgen hebt sich die Nebeldecke für unser happy birthday an Dich, mein Liebster.
    Und wieder gehts in Serpentinen um den, in Hügel eingebetteten, See. Traumhafte Stimmung.
    Bea und ich kommen nicht weit. Wir verbringen noch einen Tag am See mit Sonne, schwimmen und entspannen. Es könnte nicht schöner sein!    Leggi altro

    Im Konvoi nach Bagdad

    Abrupt ändert sich bereits kurz hinter Jersah, die eben noch blühende und grüne Landschaft. Heiß, staubig, öde, unwirtlich. Es sind noch 300 km bis zur Irakischen Grenze.
    Wir kommen am späten Vormittag an. Die jodanische Seite ist schnell erledigt. Jetzt erwartet uns die Geduldprobe Irak.
    Und wir brauchen sage und schreibe 12 Stunden. Stempel, Kopien, Quittungen, Unterschriften von diversen Stellen, an diversen Plätzen auf Vorder- und Rückseite. Erschwert durch die Tatsache dass ich nicht Fahrzeughalter bin. Wo ist mein Mann, ah, Notfall in Deutschland, musste zurück... Diese Sondersituation muss der Chef genehmigen... der ist gerade unterwegs, da Schmuggler gestellt wurden.... oh je
    Die Situationskomik lässt uns allerdings auch viel lachen!
    Kosten:
    100 $ Fahrzeug, 76 $ , 30 $ Versicherung, 15 $ Road-Tax.

    Und so schlafen wir heute gleich hier.
    Am nächsten Morgen wollen wir früh los um bis Bagdad durchzukommen. Doch bereits am Gate wirds wieder kompliziert und es dauert 2 Stunden.
    Unser Konvoi ist nun in Militärbegleitung und wir werden an jedem Checkpoint übergeben. Es scheint super zu laufen, wir kommen gut voran, bis ca. 200 km vor Bagdad. Es gibt kein neues Begleitfahrzeug. Wir warten bis es dunkel wird, wir übernachten hier, und wir warten, inzwischen 11 Uhr nächster Tag immer noch. Go with the flow    Leggi altro

    Noch einen Tag, dann treffen wir uns 200 km vor der Irakischen Grenze um am 20.4. gemeinsam den Übertritt zu meistern.
    Die Strecke zurück durch die Berge führt über Jerash, das antike Gerasa, die als weltweit besterhaltene römische Siedlung gilt.
    Tatsächlich sehr beeindruckend, und ich kann mir förmlich das Lustwandeln in den Säulengängen und Theatern vorstellen.
    Doch jetzt ist es dann auch wieder gut mit Kultur, ich fahre den Hügel hoch um auch hier, mit dem Lichtermeer der Stadt unter mir, zu übernachten.

    Der hohe Norden

    Nach Amman werden die Hügel größer und immer grüner. Ich fühle mich fast wie in der Toskana. Die ganze Gegend ist wohlhabender und relativ dicht besiedelt. Also winde ich mich mit Sprinti die Berge rauf und runter und immer wieder öffnen sich neue Landschaften und Eindrücke. Die Schule ist gerade aus und Kinder (Mädchen und Jungs natürlich getrennt) stürmen lachend und schreiend auf uns zu. Wir sind anscheinend eher eine seltene Art der Begegnung.
    Ich fahre entlang des fruchtbaren Jordantals, das leider nur noch zu 10 % tatsächlich vom Jordan gespeist wird. Israel und Syrien entnehmen im oberen Flusslauf einen Großteil des Wassers. Trotzdem bleibt die Gegend durch intensive Bewässerung aus anderen Flüssen und Staudämmen sehr fruchtbar.
    Am Nachmittag erreiche ich Umm Qais die nördlichste Ecke mit der Ausgrabungsstätte Gadara... ein Traum.
    Ich tauche förmlich in ein gelbes Blumenmeer ein. Schaue auf die Golanhöhen und den See Genezareth. Es ist wie ein Atmen von Geschichte.
    Schon wieder so ein Geschenk an meine Seele.
    Und genau um die Ecke ist ein versteckter Aussichtspunkt in einem Olivenhain, mein heutiger Schlafplatz.
    Sonnenuntergang, Wetterleuchten in der Ferne, Grillen die zirpen und in der Nacht ein Glitzermeer.
    Und ebenso wunderbar beginnt der Morgen. Ich mache die Rücktüren von Sprinti auf, liege im Bett und schaue über die Landschaft :-)
    Bis Mittag bleib ich hier, weils so wunderschön ist.
    Kurzbesuch bekomme ich von zwei jungen Burschen mit ihrem speziellen Mercedes ohne Nummernschild. Sie wollen unbedingt Fotos. Ist ok. Sex jedoch lehne ich bestimmt ab. Oh je, oh je!
    Ach ja, am Abend kam ein Pick up auf der Suche nach dem verlorenen Schaf. Es wurde gefunden :-)    Leggi altro
