    Walking the gorge du verdun

Great day hiking in the gorge. Parked the car in the car park and set off to do some of the hike. The total length is 16km and takes around 6 hours, but you have to get a lift back, a bus, or a taxi, so we only did 2hours out and two hours back. Passed through two long tunnels each 0.4miles, old mining railway tunnels, torch needed as pitch black. When we got back to the car park the parking came to 30 EUROS!! Should have taken more notice before parking. Anyway, it didn't spoil the day. Incredible walk, stunning views.

    Sisteron

Yesterday, we left gorges du Verdon and travelled around 60 miles to Sisteron. Nice campsite, very quiet site. Overnight, it rained a bit and was cloudy in the morning, but now the sun is out and will get up to 28c. Sisteron is a medieval town dating back to the 12th. It's famous for its citadel high on the rocks. Lynn was very happy tonight washing on the line!

    Dodging the showers

Started off dry, but we know there was a storm coming. We drove to Laragne Monteglin, which we thought sounded nice..... but it wasn't. It's not a tourist place at all. Stayed for morning coffee and then decided to drive the Gorges de la Meoune, which looked great. As soon as we got out of the car, it rained. We then headed to village de la perches( village on the hill) and visited Upaix, Mazon, and Le Poet. They were short visits as the rain had really taken hold.
Came back to the caravan and watched a spectacular thunderstorm. Moving on tomorrow.

Moved campsite today to Cavaillon. There doesn't seem to be any structure to our travels, unsure of where to move on to. We are back near Avignon in an area called Luberon and just outside the town of Cavaillon. The street artwork was amazing. You have to look twice to check it's not real.

    Gordes

We were woken at 6.30am by chanting, which went on till 8.30am by an Arabic group possibly celebrating a new dawn!!
We decided to cycle to Gordes, which is said to be one of the prettiest villages in France, and it didn't disappoint. We sat in a cafe just near the chateau, and whiled away an hour watching the world go by, with a beer and a lemonade for Lynn, before setting off back.

    Oppede le vieux & Menerbes

Well, once in a while, you arrive at a campsite, and all looks good. But last night, it turned into hell!! Early evening and a group of teenagers arrived staying at one of the chalets near us. They were out until after 1.00am. shouting and laughing. Lynn said, "Go and have a word with them, I said no thanks, I don't want to be verbally abused by them. Anyway, the next morning, we left and moved to a site around 10 miles away in a wood along a quiet road. When we had set up, we just had a big sigh of relief and felt a lot happier. So today we visited some of the beautiful villages around as you see in the pictures.we passed fields of olives, cherry apricot, apple and grapes.
The smell of Jasmine wafting down the lanes was a delight to the senses.

    Roussillon

After a really quiet night with only the sound of the owls, we cycled to Roussillon, which is famous for its Ocre. The town itself is one of the most beautiful villages of France and certainly lived up to its reputation. The fields around are beginning to turn purple as the lavender comes into bloom, and the smell.,....mmmm. Also, in a lot of the villages they studio's displaying sculptures and paintings.

We stopped at Lagnes for drink first thing, onto Fontaine de vaucluse. The source of the river is a vast underground network rainwater from snow melt from Mount Ventoux, Vaucluse, the Albion plateau, and Lure Mountain a catchment area of over 1240km2. The spring is the largest in france and most powerful in the world in terms of its output of water. We also visited the paper mill and other museums before heading onto L,isle sur la sorgue.

A trip to Millau and Peyre

Yesterday was a relaxing day. We did a short cycle ride to the nearest village, Le Rozier ,for coffee and a look round, then came back to spend the rest of the day round the pool.
Today, we drove into Millau to wander around the market and have a look at the shops. Then we drove to Peyre, one of the beau villages. It was 33c today, almost as hot as the UK. Came back for a cool down in the pool. Then we both went on slide. Lynn wasn't going to go down as worried about her ears, then went five times one after the other!!!

Cycled up the long uphill road to the city of stones. We didn't expect much, but we were blown away by the beauty of the structures, which were 170 million yrs shaped from water and wind. The natural site of 120 hectares overlooking the Gorges de la Dourbie. Did a 30-minute walk to a viewpoint, then walked back for a petit train ride with commentary in French. Halfway through the journey, we stopped for a video presentation in a cave, this time with English subtitles (the Germans had to lump it).

Wish I could cool down11112c in cave 35c + outside

One of those days you dont want to end

Lynn was so excited to be going back to La cite de Pierres to walk the routes we didn't do yesterday. The structures were even more amazing. The walk took over 2 hours, and the temperature rose to 34c. Also, there are lots of pesky flies.
After our butty lunch, we drove to Aven Armand, a cave with spectacular stalagmites. The cathedral structure must have been the size of the London dome. We descended in a cable car to 120m where there were over 400 stalagmites, the biggest standing over 30 metres tall. After that, we stopped in Le Rozier for a pint and a waffle with Nutella for Lynn. When we got back to the site, we had a dip in the river to cool off.

    Messing about on the river

Canoe trip down the river Tarn, 13km over 4 + hours. We hit a rock in some rapids and capsised. Luckily, we didn't lose anything. Lynn had her phone attached to her life jacket which went under with her but we had helmets on which did their job as it hit Lynn's head (maybe knocked some sense into her) but all good few minutes after getting to shoreline and righting the boat. Msny more rapids but we stayed a float. Went out for a meal tonight, and the last few photos are from a viewpoint at the top of the village.

    Puycelsi, castelnau de montmiral,Gaillac

Temperatures last few days have been very hot. Got in the car. It said 44c. So as much shade as possible, lots of drinks.
Puycelsi stands on a rocky spur overlooking the Vere valley. It is also a Beaux village: stone and half timbered buildings, picturesque narrow lanes.
Castelnau de montmiral is a beaux village on a hill top with white stone facades, cobbled streets, with a magnificent view. All witness to the medieval history. The church of Notre Dame.
    Both are unspoilt by time.
A storm was forecast, and clouds were magnificent. Still very hot, then the wind got up, and we shot in the van, that was it!. They say temps will drop to 29c then back up again to late 30c.
