Mar 14-15:
We arrived at Heathrow shortly after 11am, and made our way to the hotel. Because this trip was a surprise, we had to be very careful in the hotel because Chris and Nicole were staying there as well. The proposal went off without a hitch (a few close calls though), we got some great pictures and she said yes! Dayna and I then raced to the restaurant to get settled for our surprise before they arrived. We had a great night out in London, and we're excited to see some of the sights the next day.
Mar 16:
Big day of sightseeing in London. Below is a list of all the major places we saw/visited
- Buckingham Palace
- St James' Park
- Trafalgar Square
- National Gallery
- 10 Downing
- Palace of Westminster
- Big Ben
- London Eye
- St Paul's Cathedral
- Tate Modern
- Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
We really enjoyed the collection of art at the National Gallery, and seeing the rest of the attractions was an amazing experience. The city has so much to offer and we just barely scratched the surface.Lue lisää
We travelled to Christchurch in the morning by train, where Chris lived before he moved to Canada, and where his sister and her family live now. They showed us the town and the New Forest, where we went for a very muddy walk with some horses! Afterwards we went out for a traditional Sunday roast dinner.Lue lisää
Another big sightseeing day! We started our day with a beach walk, and then we rented a car to make our lives a little easier. We then decided to drive to Stonehenge, and then we would consider going to Bath. We took a back way into Stonehenge because we really just wanted to see it and then leave. Really cool to see and you can see from the photo the sheer size of the whole thing.
Afterwards we headed to Bath, one of our favorite cities we have seen. Dayna and I did a tour of the Roman Baths there and then Nicole gave us our own personal walking tour of the rest of the city, recounting all the information she learned a few months prior when she did a walking tour herself. Halfway through the tour we stopped in at Sally Lunns to get a Bath Bunn, and yep, it's a bun. Overall a great day; we highly recommend stopping Bath if you have the time in England 😊Lue lisää
Forgot to post our final day of the trip! The weather was exactly what we expected from England, rainy and windy. We explored the area surrounding Bournemouth, starting at Old Harry Rocks. We stopped in at the pub afterwards to warm up and have some coffee and food, and then continued on our way to Corfe. We got a glimpse of the old Corfe Castle, built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, and browsed the cute little shops in town. We then travelled to Worth Matravers and had a cider at Square and Compass, which opened its doors in 1776.
Lastly, after dinner, we went to the pub and participated in a pub quiz where we placed 10th out of 29 teams! Overall, a great day to finish up our trip and we can't wait until the next time we get to travel.Lue lisää
