    The drive

    We rolled out of YYC by 1030 - Labbé style, nice and early 😂. Car is full, dog is comfy. Snacks on board. First stop was Finn Creek recreation area. Rosie had a romp and scared herself stepping in the wet clay-like mud-for my pottery making friends, I think you could use this stuff to throw things! We also popped into Revelstoke National Park and looked at some
    Tall trees. Recommend both of these pit stops if you are driving west in no particular hurry.
    I had borrowed 4 different audio books from the library and each one sucked for a different reason. Rejected! We bedded down in Kamloops after a quick meal and a run at the Aberdeen Hill dog park. Rosie gives it two 🐾 up!    Okumaya devam et

    Drive Day 2

    Kamloops to Tsawwassen, via east Van for a hang out with Amy, Zamon and Ruby the cat. We stopped in Hope in between and it was looking sad and closed down. Richard met some locals and I found actual things for a dollar in the Dollar Store. We had a wander down Commercial Drive and a couple of Aperols and appies (and pizzas). Amy fed us and watered us incredibly well, with a delicious Bowl of Pho cocktail to start. YUMOkumaya devam et

    The ferry and an old friend reunion

    Uneventful ferry ride from Tssawassen to Nanaimo - other than the panic that the guy two cars in front of us must have felt as his car wouldn’t start when it was time to disembark 😳. Then onto Chemainus and a beautiful reunion with one of my two HS besties. So much to talk about and not nearly enough time. Thinking about how to fix that.
    A windy windy road, some impressive feats of engineering on Kennedy Lake Hill, a bit of construction stoppage and then that eternal last 24kms into Tofino after the Junction. Why does that take so long??!!
    This place, Stellars Jay Retreat, is incredible. We will explore more in the am but managed to find two workspaces and get all tech-ed up. I can feel my re-juvanessence happening!    Okumaya devam et

    So much rain today. Rosie and Richard tried earlier to walk the beach but Rosie turned back after 10 steps. I dragged her out after lunch and we both got soaked.     Queen of the Peaks

    It’s the annual surf competition in Tofino, and while the weather was not bad, the surf was challenging. Amy and I took our rental boards down to Chesterman after checking out a very flat surf at McKenzie beach. We put in a solid 40 minutes and I was happy to be able to get up and ride the whitewash. That is the extent of my surfing skills!
    Richard and I continue our single pickleball where I hit them in the net or right out of the court. Not sure what’s going on!    Okumaya devam et

    A great great day

    Started my day with some work (boo) and after three hours, it was time to suit up and head to the beach for some more surfing. The ocean was pretty calm, as well as extra cold today (likely more the air temps-5 degrees Celsius) so there was a fair amount of paddling around and waiting. But! I have progressed a bit and was able to get up on a couple of smallish green waves. Amy helped with some cueing which was critical. And then I got cold. So cold. Time to go in.
    We afternoon tripped to Ukee fora poke around the Crow’s Nest and a lovely Lighthouse Loop wander - we ran into a family of mule deer, mama and two babies. Then a drop off at HarborAir and a hug to Amy - arrivederci - and I snagged some Sobo soup and bread and Legends Haul wooza for dinner. Time to cozy up as we both are nursing head colds.     I could imagine if you live here and work from home, that today might be a typical day. Walked the beach with Rosie and marveled at how different the beach looked today. Lunch at Tacofino (still so busy) - we had yam tacos, I had a ta-tuna taco and Richard had a fish burrito. Ta-tuna taco won hands down. Came home, worked, and the headed out around 515pm for some surfing and more beach time. The evening sun was spectacular. Not what I was expecting for October !Okumaya devam et

    A visit from Lori, beach combing & jam

    Yesterday I caught sunrise on the beach and then Lori from Chemainus drove over the island to visit and brought boxes of preserves, as well as more tomatoes (yum) and frozen prawns. Her lifestyle is fascinating as she works as a stevedore/longshoreman - I had so so many questions!!
    We wandered Chesterman over to South Chesterman then back to hang out before a dark walk to Roar at Hotel Zed for dinner - such a fun hotel! Today we went into town and poked around the shops, had a cold drink at Rhino (and I did buy a donut and carrot cake muffin, Chanelle!), then off to The Surf Shack for burgers, tacos and greasy fries.     Tried to join drop in pickleball and the village green but the weather wasn’t cooperating. Good timing that the Saturday market was on, and I found my canasta theme gift, cousin shirts for the upcoming Toronto trip, and some lovely body butters to cure all our ails. More Tofino town wandering, down by the marina side and some pickleball - I finally conquered some yips and won a couple of games !     Small town challenges

    With 24 hours left in this getaway town, I lucked out and was able to join the locals playing Pickleball indoors at the Tofino Community Hall. Some of these ladies have lived here for 40+ years which I find fascinating and wish I had more time to hear their stories! However, when I stepped out to take a work call, I noticed that the cAr had a flat 🫤. Small town = very very limited car services. Incredibly, the owner of our vacation rental is Mr. Tofino and he ‘made a few calls’ and the car was towed to the garage and I got a drop off at home. They might get the tire repaired by end of day but maybe not 🤷‍♀️. Anyhoo, we took advantage and walked to beach again and then wandered to the Pointe at the Wick for a bar dinner. A first world problem of sitting at the bar is you end up trying too many cocktails 😬. The overwhelming winning course was the cheese plate. YUM.Okumaya devam et
