Galle - Europe in Sri Lanka?

After one exhausting Trip to Galle we slept very well, got up at 8:00 am, had some breakfast (pancakes and a Sri Lankan Omlett) and headed to the Fort which Galle is known for. Founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese as a fortified town, Galle reached the height of its development in the 18th century under Dutch colonial rule. It is the best representation of a fortified city built by the Europeans in South Asia, showing the interaction between European planning principles and South Asian architectural traditions. With almost no shade we strolled along the fort but were astonished of how european this part of Sri Lanka is. Inside the Fort are Shops, Boutiques, jewelry Stores and Restaurants. Really cute!
After spending around 2 hours in the boiling heat at the fort we made our way back to the „Hotel“, grabed our stuff and took an tuktuk to Galle train Station.
We then took the train to Weligama, which is the next stop on the way to Mirissa and one of the many beach towns along the South coast.
Of course we headed to the beach and it was great! The ocean is so warm and there are perfect conditions to do some surfing. Luckily we also found a spot that offered food. So had again some Sri Lankan Curry and some Kottu :)
After spending almost 3h at the Beach we headed back to the train station to get to Mirissa.
I really do like the train rides here because the people are really nice. Lots of them offer their help. They sometimes look a little surprised when you as a Tourist also take the third class train (not a Lot of tourists Go on the third Class) but often times you are rewarded by a huge smile!
In Mirissa we finally had a shower and went to the beach to have some freshly caught grilled fish! The Fish was soo good. We picked a white snapper right from the beach. Definitely will dream of this Fish for a while haha
At the beach they even had some fireworks and live music :) made me appreciate life once again!
Unfortunately on the way home Lorenzo and I were hit by a Wave and my phone got wet.. so we had to do an emergency rice dipping over Night. It worked.. But the Rice got stuck and I wasnt able to charge my phone. 🤦🏼♀️
After we performed an Operation on my phone this morning I hope it will work again.. Updates to follow 😅Read more
