Back to Bologna

It was after 4:00p when we resumed our stroll after taking a rest/drink break. We headed to the train station in a roundabout way to kill some more time. Collecting our bags, we checked the departures board for the platform information … binario 5. Which necessitated going down the stairs one level, walking under the railway tracks, and then up again at binario 5.

We still had about 30 minutes before the train, but luckily there was shade …. And a light breeze to keep us comfy. We weren’t there long when a station agent made his way along the platform to advise waiting Bologna passengers that our Frecciarossa train was now departing from platform #1. Sigh!

Back down the stairs to go under the tracks and then up again at the other end to binario 1 … the closest one to the station building.

When we were purchasing our tickets, we were offered an upgrade to the business class car. The price was just a few Euros more, so we took it. That we were able to get a two-seat booth set-up with a table in between was a bonus. A snack cart came through almost immediately upon departure at 5:10p … two cookies each, a bottle of water, and a beverage of our choice.

Leaving Bolzano, it was clear that there was rain in the mountains. Soon, the train was going through a heavy squall that completely veiled our views through the window. We also noted heavy traffic southbound … with a several-mile back-up. Glad we were on the train and not driving in that mess.

We arrived at Bologna Centrale a few minutes behind schedule … no matter. Leaving the station, we lucked out … a bus heading in the direction of the apartment was just about to leave. Excellent.

The bags have been set aside to be unpacked tomorrow … not much laundry to do since we took care of that before leaving Colfosco. The apartment has been aired out and we now have the A/C cooling things down.

That it is quite hot in Bologna compared to what we enjoyed in the Dolomiti goes without saying. That it is not ‘heat dome hot’ is something for which we are grateful.
