    Overlooking Lake Ontario

    Headed north to South Shores RV Park at Sodus Point and parked on cliff overlooking the Lake. Temp today was 90F, but felt a sweltering 99F due to the humidity, thank goodness for aircon!!
    It's the weekend, country music on TV, cold beer and snacks before dinner.Les mer

    Sodus Point

    Cycled the 1.5 miles downhill to Sodus Point Beach right out to the end of the pier. Cycled round the village, it's really pretty with houses along the waterfront with boat docks. Down by the yacht club there was a cabin covered in flowers which had won graden of the month. Temps again humid in the high 80sF.Les mer

    Chimney Bluff State Park

    Monday mornings don't get much better, hiking through woods along cliffs overlooking Lake Ontario to Chimney Bluffs. Spectacular sandstone structures created by rainwater eroding the cliffs. Walked back along the beach climbing over the fallen trees. Temps are in the high 70sF today & the breeze off the lake is refreshing.Les mer

    White Springs Winery - Finger Lakes NY

    Joined Harvest Hosts ($44 pa) & this is our first stop overlooking Seneca Lake. Harvest Hosts is a network of wineries, farms and agri-tourism sites that invite self-contained RVers to visit and stay overnight for 'free' !! Spent a very pleasant hour tasting 6 hard' cider & beers for $5, then 6 wines for another $5, encouraging you to buy their products. Forgot to take a photo before Stew finished his beers!! Boondocking (dry or wild camping) in their parking lot on the edge of an apple orchard, only neighbours are the frogs croaking & cicadas chirping.... bliss !!Les mer

    Seneca Shores Vineyard

    After a visit to Climbing Bines Craft Ale & Hop Farm we parked at Seneca Shores Vineyard. They make the wine here & as they're a Harvest Host we're staying here tonight. After a walk round the vineyard we went for our complimentary tasting. Decided we prefer the beers in this area, wines are not to our taste, so bought some cheese instead. Thunderstorms over the lake as it got dark were spectacular !!Les mer

    Boondockers Welcome

    Our first stop at a Boondockers Welcome site, RVers that are kind enough to offer overnight camping. Fred & Sue's place is a smallholding, they used to have a market garden & sell their products at Farmers Markets, but have semi-retired. Now the grow garlic (bags of it) & have a 14 bullocks which they has fattening on good organic grass. Had a great first night sharing stories over a few beers in their gazebo overlooking the pond.Les mer

    Livonia Center NY

    Trip out with Fred to 2 of the Little Lakes, Hemlock & Canadice, protected areas with no houses on the lakeside, stunning wilderness. On our way back we stopped at a vintage car show in Livonia Center. Back at the farm we helped Fred weigh & bag up his garlic as a thank you for letting us stay.Les mer

    Lakeside Beach State Park NY

    Made it here on what must be the worst road in the US, Lake Ontario State Parkway, 2 lanes so bumpy Stew drove on the hardshoulder at 15mph. The park is lovely & almost deserted on a Monday. Took a walk along the lake & spotted a deer feeding on a bush. Temps today are in the 70s, even feels a bit fresh with the breeze, but welcome after the roasting we've had recently. Heading to an expensive ($70pn) campground near Niagara Falls for a touristy day tomorrow. Gobsmacked when the google map guy told us to turn right on 'Saunders Settlement Road' !!!!Les mer

    Journey Behind the Falls

    Last stop was an elevator ride down to an overlook halfway down horseshoe falls with tunnels behind the falls. You really get to see & feel the force. Up at street level there are great views of the falls. As great day with a great guide.Les mer

    After an overnight stop at Walmart, Avon we bought hiking poles at a new Cabelas outdoor store. Drove through small towns along the lake over a causeway to this lovely park which is in Lake Erie. Neighbours are RVs of all shapes & sizes plus tents. Found draft Guinness in a bottle ???Les mer

    Middle Harbor Bike Ride

    Another bike ride to a beach where we paddled in the lake & walked out to the end of a breakwater. It's amazing how many boats are out on the water, moored just off the beach. Another hot one & another big thunderstorm happening right now (15:50) glad we're back indoors !!Les mer

    Magee Marsh- Crane Creek

    Great birding area, herons, egrets, even saw a bald eagle flying as we were walking back to the coach. Long boardwalk through the forest & marsh was hot & humid. Parked on the edge of the marsh & were joined by a flock of canada geese grazing on grass next to us. Lkept amused by a groundhog crossing the road to eat & running back when a car came past, must have done it 10 times. Eaten alive overnight by mossies that came in through the screens.Les mer

    Too busy eating shrimp, scallops & the local speciality fried Lake Erie Perch & drinking ale to take photos. First plan was to get a cab, but the guy quoted a flat rate of $16 each way for 1.2 miles according to google, so biked here & saved half the cost if dinner !! Even took some home on the back of the bike before it got dark !!Les mer

    Monroe Labor Day Parade

    Biked into town & rode alongside the parade ending in St Marys Park. Bike & matching classic car !!!
    Food vans, beer tent & country music on stage. Lovely afternoon, talked to lots of locals, our bikes attract lots of attention. Stew's party trick is to fold his down to show people - 3 times today !!Les mer

    Wildlife at Cracker Barrel

    Shopping spree, first at Camping World (propane stove, rollup table, fancy lights for outside-Stew's thing !! & a few other bits & pieces) Next stop Macys at Ann Arbor - new bedspread & pillow covers, check before & after pics, bedroom now so much lighter. Now parked at Cracker Barrel Country Store, surprised to sees cranes across the road, out to Cracker Barrel for dinner & staying the night in their parking lot.Les mer
