Belorado to San Juan de Ortega

    2023年8月31日, スペイン ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

Left Belorado late this morning, went to the farmacia for an inflammatory. They opened at 9 AM so I was on the trail by myself for the most part. It was very nice considering. Approximately 24 Km, mostly up hill. Being all alone an unafraid was peaceful. The reward was at the out door restaurant so many people from all over the world showed appreciation for each other. Made the day special.もっと詳しく

旅行者From the map, you seem to have covered quite a distance today. Is it about the same distance daily or does it vary depending upon the terrain?

    Vernon Adams

旅行者Thanks Renée, I am holding up pretty well. The distance was a little longer, the difference for today was the climbing. Glad I was able to get something from the pharmacy. Slept well. Today will be good.

旅行者I know that climbing uphill on the Camino can be quite difficult. How about the downhill, the effect on the knees? Are your knees holding up? By the way, I am soooo impressed. You are doing great and are meeting so many interesting people from around the world - AND turning them into FRIENDS.

    2023/09/02返信する翻訳する

You sonetimes mistakenly overlook that the downhill part coming off a mountain requires an equal amount, sonetimes more effort. I totally agregó with Robyn, that going downhill can be just as strenuous. [Vernon]

San Juan de Ortega to Burgos

    2023年9月1日, スペイン ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

Left for Burgos at 7:45 AM. Approx 30 Km hike. Once inside the City another 8 km to the Municipal Albergue. Beautiful facility. Very pilgrim focused. The only issue Burgos is not pilgrim friendly, so the travel markers are not as prevelent as they are in other towns. The Camino provides a way so here I am. The ALBERGUE IS AWESOME. Very festive environment tonight. I am however very concerned about Dora the Explorer and Gisellas, haven't seen them since 5K out from Burgos. We were suppose to have a glass of wine tonight. Hopefully they are fine. What a great day.もっと詳しく

    Burgos to Hornilla

    2023年9月2日, スペイン ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Left Burgos at 7:30 AM going to the town of Hornilla. 30 KM hike. As it was going into Burgos it was equally difficult leaving because of the inadequate direction markings. Very cool, so perfect weather for the hike. The Milestone for this stage is that I am now under 500 KMs left. Because I am going into the Meseta Phase (desert) most of the terrain will look the same. Because of that I added some of the pictures from the Burgos Cathedral. The Alberge in Hornilla is small and quaint. Very nice though. Took a shower, handwashed some clothes. The only reason I will stay up for dinner is because I will need the energy for tomorrow. In Spain nothing happens on Sunday. Everything shuts down.もっと詳しく

    2023年9月6日, スペイン ⋅ 🌙 55 °F

Left for Carrion de los Condes at 7:30 AM. Approximately 21 km's. Beautiful morning, very cool, nice countryside to hike through. During the lunch stop in Villacarzar, de sirga ran into several of the corp pilgrims we began the journey with. Great seeing them and catching up. Great day fitness wise, never got tired feet, and ankles held up well. Trekking poles are amazing. After checking g into the municipal alberge, did some hand washing, walked to the supermercado for some Dove soap. Will grap dinner, to sleep early. Thought the nuns at the church were singing tonight , however, they are on a rest day. Buen Camino.もっと詳しく

Left for Terradillos at 7:45 AM. Approximately 26 km's. Was fortunate enough to meet up with Paola from Italy via Peru. The unfortunate part in that is it was at the beginning of the stage. No sightseeing with her. Strictly business. We got to Terradillos in record time, but my dogs are barking. The local church gave Mass for the pilgrims, which was
very nice. The Sponsoring Alberque had a dinner for us afterward . Met a gentleman from the Czech Republic, Las. He gave me a pear. Yeah, thought it was weird as well. Thanks to Paola I going to bed early. Buen Camino.

ceremoniously is said to be the halfway point. Thank goodness for real time. I am way past half. The albergue is run by the church. Very tight but very clean 4 bunk rooms. Visited the church. Walked past a car, the model name was Zoe... Will send the picture to my granddaughter. Met a young African living in Spain. Originally from Cameroon. He and I had made eye contact a few times in the past. He was so happy each time he saw me. He asked me my name and would clap, showing appreciation. What was so remarkable is that he slept on a sleeping mat next to the trails each night. At the stop, where we took the photos, he asked if I wanted a short video. He gave me a small stone. He was collecting rocks along the way. Very nice young man.もっと詳しく

    2023年9月9日, スペイン ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Left for Villadangos at 7:45 AM. Approximately 24 km's. Leon is a very modern city. I saw more identity and style here than any other city on the Camino so far. The tour of the cathedral was awesome. Had to say farewell to Poala. She has to get back to her job in Italy. At Valverde decided to go another 10 km's. Was feeling pretty good. So I and a couple others hiked into Villadangos, for a 33 km day. Most so far in one day. What was even more special as I was leaving Dora The Explorer and Gisella was arriving. I am so happy you didn't get to see three old people acting like children hugging and laughing. Since I was on my was out we said we would reconnect in Astorga.もっと詳しく

Left for Mansilla at 8 AM. Approximately 25 km's. From Mansilla, several of us caught the train to Leon with Paola for she was leaving the Camino here to get back to her home in Italy for her job. She comes back to Leon next year to finish her Camino. She was so helpful with the culture and language barriers. She was so determined on the trails, relentless at times. 旅行者Poala speaks very little english so I didn't know much about her and her journey. What I did know was she is originally from Peru and have lived in Italy for the past 18 years. I crossed paths with her back in Pomplona. Found out she was doing half the camino this year and will come back and finish next year. She is really a nice person. I will miss her sharing a part of her grapefruit with me. I look for grapefruit at every market, can't find any, then she always has one. Cool.

    Astorga to Rabanal de Camino

    2023年9月13日, スペイン ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

Left for Rabanal at 7: 30 AM, approximately 21 km's. Can't tell you much about Astorga. Never left the Albergue was very tired. Thought about bypassing Rabanal because it is only 21 km's from Astorga. Imagine when you would consider 12 miles a short day. Because it was a steady climb maybe it wasn't so short afterall. Passed through several small towns so had an opportunity to stop and relax a couple times. Talked with a wonderful young lady for about 5 km's, AJ from Melbourne Australia. Originally from Bombay India. Her family left India when she was 11, she has a graduate degree but says something is missing from her life so she hopes the Camino will help her find what that is, very nice, very enjoyable convo. The Albergue in Rabanal is small and rustic, I love it. A very nice couple runs it. I definitely enjoy the small Mom and Pop type Albergue's over the larger and more crowded ones.もっと詳しく

Rabanal to Acebo de San Miquel

    2023年9月14日, スペイン ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

Left Rabanal for Acebo de San Miquel at 8 :15 AM. Approximately 21 km's. We are not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy. Back in the mountains again. In order to reach the Famous Iron Cross, had to climb into the thin air. Unlike the first mountain phase where your hip muscles was screaming for blood flow, your ligaments and tendons for flexibility, and your lungs for oxygen your body has adapted. Like Robyn Bess said earlier you just can't adjust for that straight downhill. Just brutal. On this very arduous downhill you realize that your trekking poles have added value. Not only do they assist your downhill, but they also serve like windshield washers with the back and forth keeping the swarm of flies out of your face. After a while you are satisfied just keeping the flies out of your mouth. The view from the albergue is awesome. There are no words that will accurately describe it. Back to the Iron Cross. I felt his spirit there today. It was so gratifying, made all the fatigue have value. Will machine wash clothes, then air dry. Very tired, but very fulfilled. Robyn, again I am in total agreement on trying to ascend a mountain on slate rock for a few km's. Very, very difficult. I am happy for today. Will bid you a fond adieu. Buen Camino.もっと詳しく

    Rabanal del Camino to Ponferrada

    2023年9月15日, スペイン ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

Left for Ponferrada at 9 AM. Had to wait for the rain to stop. Approximately 30 km's mostly downhill. Still a little tired from yesterday, but out the door when the rain ceased. Walked through a couple of little but nice towns on the way. Molinaseca had quite a few nice places to stop and shop or get a café. The little town of Campo was a sleep except for the guy gave out a few pears and the little old lady who just wanted to chat. Ponferrada seems pretty nice, already did my walk around while looking for a bank after getting into town. Albergue is very nice.もっと詳しく

    Villafranca to O'cebreiro

    2023年9月17日, スペイン ⋅ ☀️ 55 °F

Left for O'cebreiro at 8 AM. Approximately 29 km's. Cold and rainy day. First 20 km's were small up and down roads. Very narrow paths or on actual roads for the first 20 km's. When we reached the town of La faba I was in bit of a shock. There was this giant mountain, Laguna de Castilla blocking the road. So that meant we had to climb all the way over it to get to our objective. Rain and mud straight up this mountain. Beautiful views, but extremely treacherous climb. Being in good condition, and being hydrated was the only answer. So we climb, we slip and slide on horse poop while going into the clouds. O'cebreiro sits on a ridge line atop this mountain. Simply beautiful. Like a Christmas Card. Saw several pilgrims I have come to know on this journey, that was pretty nice. Albergue is crowded but manageable. Will prepare for tomorrow early because I will be resting soon. Buen Camino.もっと詳しく

    Ponferrada to Villafranco del Bierzo

    2023年9月17日, スペイン ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Left for Villafranco at 8:30 AM. Approximately 24 km's. The beginning portion of this stage was uphill. After it leveled out, maybe around 10 km's in the road was very pleasant. When I reached Pieros, I started going downhill. So that means tomorrow will a little diffi ult because we go up from the jump. Milestone day. Went under 200 km's to go today. Cause to celebrate. The town had their patron saint fiesta. Put a part of it on film. Hope it posts. Albergue is small but nice. Buen Camino. 😊もっと詳しく

旅行者Congratulations on reaching this milestone day. I was just thinking that, by doing this Camino solo, it is truly YOUR Camino, done your way, and where you see your personality shine and your impact on others, as well as their impact on you. That’s my perspective. But then, again, I am a person who likes “solo,” with a sprinkling of other people on occasion. What are your thoughts on this?

旅行者Thanks Robyn, I am very fortunate that most of the people I have had to do business with was patient, and understanding the language barriers. Had less issue than expected. The Camino has had so many positive effects. Sarria is on the horizon, knowing you set the pace to get there is very cool.

    O'cebreiro to Triacastela

    2023年9月18日, スペイン ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

AYUDAME. "Help." Why is the Camino putting all these very tall mountains in my path. Another day of The Rain in Spain, and climbing mountains. Left for Triacastela at 8 AM. Approximately 30 km's mostly in the mountains. Felt good, no aches or pains, so it was a tough day but productive. The sights were extraordinary. To be so high and go from walking in a mist to some beautiful countryside was amazing. Ran into Wennie again today. He was happy and smiling as before, he was singing some African tunes as he hiked, sounded good until he put some distance between us. We are in the part of Spain known as Galatia. This part of Spain was first inhabited by Celtics around 410 AD. Triacastela is a mountain town, small, quaint but very beautiful. I am really feeling good today. Will tell you why in the morning. Going now to find some of that good cabbage soup. Buen Camino.もっと詳しく

    Triacastela to SARRIA

    2023年9月20日, スペイン ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Left for Sarria at 8:30 AM. Approximately 20 km's. First of all the coziest Albergue in a while. Very warm, every amenity in a comfortable place. The manager was such a nice gentleman. Didn't do laundry at O'cebreiro because that place was "The Animal House". But in a fun busy way. So in Triacastela I asked where was the laundry room. He said follow me. The washer and dryer was in use, so I said I would sit and wait. He said no, put your clothes in this basket. (Regular clothes basket). So i sat down to wait. He said no, go and have dinner. This dude washed and dried my clothes, folded them up and had them on my bunk when I returned from dinner. Tried to give him 20 euro, he only took 5. The climb down the mountain was very hard on my feet. Today I will walk with less intensity. Under 100 km's. Buen Caminoもっと詳しく

    Sarria to Portomarin

    2023年9月20日, スペイン ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

Left for Portomarin at 8:30 AM. Very tired, feet and ankles a little sore. But off I go. Sarria was a circus this morning. Everybody and their brother showed up to do the last 100 k. I know the albergues are going to be full the rest of the way. Three older Spanish guys checked into the Albergue right before me, obviously very old friends, because they fussed at each other from then, and at 4 AM this morning they got up in the same mode. Some folks were a little irritated, for me, it was enjoyable seeing old friends carrying on like that. Portomarin is up in the mountains. It has a seaside resort flavor without the sea. About 10 km's from town I could hear the sound of bagpipes being played. This one guy was off the road just playing. Sounded pretty good. Small dinner then bed for me. Buen Camino.もっと詳しく

    Portomarin to Palas de Rei

    2023年9月21日, スペイン ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

Left for Palas de Rei at 8 :30 AM. Approximately 25 Km's. Although a little misty rain, teamed up with a wonderful couple from Iowa, Lyle and Clara and we made it through the challenging up and down mountains in this part of Galatia in good time. Checked into the Albergue, the host was great. Awesome personality. Had a great lunch at his restaurant. Got cleaned up and crashed big time. Got up just in time for a glass of wine and a snack. Under 75 Km's left. Really enjoying these last few days. Looking forward to an easier day tomorrow.もっと詳しく

Left for Ribadiso at 8:30 AM. Approximately 27 km's. Light rain and a little chilly. Was surprised and vibe of this little town. Didn't expect the spirit, but it was there. The rain slowed things up a little but made it in safely. Did my wash, had some good pizza, all is well. The little guy and his wife turned there house into an Albergue, pretty nice. He is super accommodating, very pleasant. Remind me to tell you about an image of Dora The Explorer today. I will have nightmares for a few days. Not real ones, but kinda funny. Hike was long and had some tough spots. Reached three milestones today. 50 km's, under 50, under 40. Very good day. Buen Camino.もっと詳しく

Your feet, your shoes, your trekking poles (smile), your health, and your motivation and discipline were the physical and mental things you needed the most. Your God served you spiritually and He provided you with the right people, the right albergues, the miracles of life and nature that you saw along the way. I have certainly enjoyed reading your blogs.
