Our First Day Around Bueno Aires

The four of us had a long flight and retrieving our luggage took forever. After finding our driver we got to our Airbnb around 1am. We all went to bed with empty stomachs but all was good.

This morning we had some coffee and headed out to exchange money and get a bite to eat . We had our first meal @ Milanguera. Wonderful spot at a nice market with overhead iron work and many meat themed eateries - lots of fun.

We took a nice walk and ended up on the waterfront, where we stopped for some coffee.Les mer

Fabulous Steak Dinner

Tonight, the four of us had an amazing dinner at Parrilla La Brigada in Buenos Aires. The restaurant is located in the heart of San Telmo and was founded in 1992 by Hugo Echevarrieta. It's known for its delicious Argentine cuisine and has been visited by people from all over the world, including celebrities and even presidents.

The atmosphere was lively and festive, with a decor that truly captures the essence of Buenos Aires. We started with some salad and grilled provolone cheese, followed by a juicy steak cooked to perfection. Craig and I had the bone in rib-eye, grilled medium rare, and was delicious. So tender you could eat it with a spoon! Brad and Kristy had the fillet mignon, and it was grilled medium. The wine selection was impressive and we enjoyed a bottle of Malbec from Mendoza.

We had no room for dessert! The service was impeccable and we felt truly welcomed. It was a night to remember.Les mer

Buenos Aires Walking Tour

Today we had the pleasure of taking a "Heart of the City and History" walking tour with Rodrigo in Buenos Aires. Rodrigo was an exceptional guide, with a wealth of knowledge about both local and national history. His expertise in the architecture of Buenos Aires was evident as he pointed out the intricate details and styles of the buildings we passed.

One of the most interesting buildings we saw was the Palacio Barolo. This historic building was designed by Italian architect Mario Palanti and was inspired by Dante Alighieri's work The Divine Comedy. The building is divided into three sections representing Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. The basement and ground floor represent Hell, floors 1-14 are Purgatory, and floors 15-22 represent Heaven. It was fascinating to see how Dante's work was incorporated into the building's design.

The tour was comprehensive, covering art, politics (including present-day politics and the legacy of Eva Perón), local communities, gastronomy, and even hidden streets that we would have never discovered on our own. Rodrigo's passion for his city was contagious and we were completely captivated by his stories and insights.

Overall, it was an incredible experience and we feel so grateful to have had Rodrigo as our guide. His expertise in local and national history, architecture, art, politics, communities, gastronomy, and hidden streets truly made this tour unforgettable.Les mer

La Boca

This afternoon we visited the vibrant and colorful neighborhood of La Boca in Buenos Aires. Known for its lively street art, restaurants, shops, and tango dancers. La Boca is also one of the towns where Tango originated.

For lunch, we decided to try some local cuisine and were not disappointed. We had some nice grilled ribeye and sausages.

The vibe of the neighborhood was cool, with many brightly painted buildings. Was fun visiting the many shops and galleries along our walk.Les mer

An Evening of Tango

Tonight we had an unforgettable evening at Querandi, one of the most traditional places in Buenos Aires. We were transported back in time to the golden years of Tango and enjoyed an authentic Tango show with professional dancers and musicians in a beautiful ambiance.

Some interesting facts: Querandi has been awarded by the Historical Museum of the City with the title of “Testimonio Vivo de la Memoria Ciudadana” for its restoration in 1992 after remaining abandoned for more than 12 years. It was a magical experience to witness the history of Tango unfold before our eyes through music, singing, and dancing. The 14 artists on stage and their multiple costume changes took us on a journey from the Arrabal to Modernism.

The dinner was exquisite and we had a wide variety of options to choose from. The performances also had great singers and musicians that accompanied the Tango dancers - a magical evening.Les mer

Our Airbnb was in Dorrego Square and right outside the square had a nice market selling art and antiques. The evening consisted of Tango lessons and performances. During the day there would be a few Tango dances for people to watch.Les mer

Dinner @ Restaurant La Rueda

After a long day of exploring the Iguazu Falls in Brazil, we had dinner at La Rueda. This was a steakhouse and their steaks did not disappoint! We first enjoyed their bread and washed them down with some of their tasty beverages.

We wasted no time with appys and enjoyed our steaks, ribeyes, and a tenderloin with different sauces and some fantastic potatoes. We also had a nice bottle of red vino!

After our mains we shared some incredible desserts. A perfect end to a perfect day!Les mer

Iguazu Falls Argentina

Today we checked out of our hotel and made our way to visit the Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side. We started our journey by walking the “Lower Falls.”From there, we took a train and walked over several metal grate foot bridges to “Devils Mouth.” Along the way, we spotted a giant catfish, circling raptors, and interesting birds. The cool mist at the Devils Mouth was refreshing as the afternoon’s sun was hot.

From there, as we walked along the trails, we were surrounded by lush subtropical rainforest that is home to over 2,000 species of vascular plants and a diverse array of wildlife.

The Iguazu Falls are truly a sight to behold. Some things we leaned from online research: The semicircular waterfall is some 80 meters high and 2,700 meters in diameter, making it one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. It's interesting to note that two-thirds of the falls are on the Argentina side.

The falls have a rich history and many interesting facts. For example, they were formed as a result of a volcanic eruption and consist of about 275 waterfalls. The surrounding national park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 due to its exceptional universal value.

Overall, our visit to the Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side was an unforgettable experience filled with breathtaking natural beauty, fascinating history and interesting facts.

Coatis aren’t just cute furry mammals with raccoon tails. They are pretty aggressive when it comes to food. As Craig found out while trying to eat on of our waffle cookies from Amsterdam. The Coati snuck up on on Craig while he was sitting and took his little bag of waffle cookies. As you can see from the picture the waffles did not go to waste!

While we enjoyed our visit to the Brazil side yesterday with newer facilities, we pretty much agreed the Argentina side and the many trails provided many spectacular views.Les mer

Exploring Bariloche

Today the four us explored the charming town of Bariloche, also known as Argentina’s Switzerland. We were amazed by the stunning scenery of Lake Nahuel Huapi and the mountains that surround it.

We loved the European vibe of Bariloche, with its wooden chalets, chocolate shops, and craft breweries.

We took a drive around the lake and discovered some of the beaches and look out points. The bird watching was quite fantastic!Les mer
