Schon von weitem sahen wir sie dampfen, die heißen Quellen von Thermopylae. Direkt dort besichtigten wir das damalige Schlachtfeld und die Statuen, die an die Schlacht von Thermopylae erinnern. ⚔️ Danach machten wir uns auf den Weg nach Delphi. Die Parkplatzsuche erwies sich, mal wieder, als schwierig... wie ist das dann erst in der Hauptsaison? 🤷‍♀️
Wir besuchten das dortige Museum und den archäologischen Park. Auch das Orakel konnten wir sehen. Wusstest du, dass das Orakel von Delphi eine der wichtigsten religiösen Stätten im antiken Griechenland war? Hier befragten die Menschen die Pythia, eine Priesterin des Gottes Apollon, um Rat und Weissagungen zu erhalten. Ihre Antworten, oft in rätselhafter Form, beeinflussten wichtige Entscheidungen in Politik und Krieg. 🤯 Der Tempel von Delphi, in dem die Pythia ihre Weissagungen verkündete, war dem Gott Apollon geweiht und beherbergte auch den Omphalos, einen Stein, der als "Nabel der Welt" galt. 🌍
Je später der Tag wurde, desto schlechter wurde auch das Wetter. 🌧️ Die Fahrt nach Athen führte uns durch kleine Städte in den Bergen. Hier waren die Straßen, geflutet von Touristen, fast unpassierbar. Wir fuhren über Bergpässe, und es fing richtig an zu regnen. Und auch wenn sich die Einheimischen hier nie an Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzungen halten, sobald es regnet, fahren sie dafür umso langsamer. 🐌
Unterwegs suchten wir noch eine Autowaschanlage auf, um unser Auto mal wieder von all dem Dreck und Streusalz zu befreien. Während Michael das Auto putzte, amüsierte sich Anna über die Hundewaschstraße nebendran. 🐕
Sicher und mit sauberem Auto kamen wir abends in Athen an. ✨

#From afar, we could see them steaming, the hot springs of Thermopylae. Right there, we visited the former battlefield and the statues commemorating the Battle of Thermopylae. ⚔️ Afterwards, we made our way to Delphi. Finding a parking spot proved to be difficult once again... how is it even possible to find one during peak season? 🤷‍♀️
We visited the museum there and the archaeological park. We also got to see the Oracle. Did you know that the Oracle of Delphi was one of the most important religious sites in ancient Greece? Here, people consulted the Pythia, a priestess of the god Apollo, to receive advice and prophecies. Her answers, often in riddle form, influenced important decisions in politics and war. 🤯 The Temple of Delphi, where the Pythia proclaimed her prophecies, was dedicated to the god Apollo and also housed the Omphalos, a stone that was considered the "navel of the world". 🌍
The later the day got, the worse the weather became. 🌧️ The drive to Athens took us through small towns in the mountains. Here, the roads were flooded with tourists, making them almost impassable. We drove over mountain passes, and it really started to rain. And even though the locals never adhere to speed limits, as soon as it rains, they drive all the more slowly. 🐌
On the way, we looked for a car wash to finally rid our car of all the dirt and road salt. While Michael washed the car, Anna was amused by the dog wash next door. 🐕
