    Tooth implant

Had first part of my tooth Implant today. They screw the metal into your bone with a ratchet wrench. I felt like i was having my spark plugs changed or something.

After that I visited the War Remnants Museum. There are some very shocking and sad photos of what happened here during that war that will haunt you for days. Very terrible, but I think everyone should see them, a good reminder of why we need to avoid war.

Finished my tooth implant, it feels pretty good, like a natural tooth almost. I think he colour matched it to the yellow on my orher teeth though, not sure why he would do that. Oh well, I'm just happy to have a tooth again!

    Ho Chi Minh city

Haven't updated in a while, so I'll just post some things from Vietnam since I'm currently on a flight to Tokyo.
Spent some time doing some things around the city, went to Mui Ne and Phan Thiet for a few days. The next week we visited the Cu Chi tunnels, and then went to the beach of one billion people at the local resort town ofもっと詳しく

    Mui Ne, PhanThiet

Mui Ne is a nice coastal town of resorts owned by Russians, and overpriced (by Vietnamese standards) seafood. There was one nice swimming beach though, with surfboard rental. I think without surfing I a weekend there would be enough for me. Along the coast road there were some large areas of sand dunes, which was interesting.

Phan Thiet is a typical Vietnamese coastal city.

    Cu Chi Tunnels

Lots of bus riding to get here, but was interesting to see how the people of the area had to live during the American war. Apparently they lived in the tunnels during the day to escape American bombs, and farmed during the night.
Also I got to shoot an AK47 😁

    Tokyo Flight

Well it's a good thing I checked my flights last night, because originally I was supposed to leave at 0200, but the changed flight was for 0800, so I would have head a bit of a wait. Any way, I'm about an hour from Tokyo; I'm a little worried I won't make it to My hostel before the office closes, because getting through customs and getting lost 4 times can take a while sometimes 😂. Oh well, it wouldn't be the first time I had to sleep at a bus stop, it McDonald's!

Tokyo, the awesome most city on earth I think. So huge and has something for everyone I think. Went to Akihabara, (electronics town) and went to the museum of future and emerging technologies. I have been to the museum before, but I missed ASIMO last time. ASIMO was worth it, pretty amazing robot.

    Osaka, Japan

I've been told that Osaka is like a compact Tokyo, but I don't think it's anything like Tokyo. It's a little dirty, feels smaller, a little older, and not quite as exciting. Not that it's not worth visiting though. Osaka station is amazing. One of the largest buildings in this country, multiple terraced floors, built between two high-rises, it's hard to describe, amazing place to explore. Also the Skytower is an amazing building and has a great observation deck on top, very cool building.

Osaka also has a cool castle, and the tallest building in Japan. I never went to the top of the building because it's cost 1500Yen (18CAD) AND I'm cheap. But it looked cool from the ground, and the free 1/3 I could go up! Oh, and they gave a sweet castle.

    Kyoto

Came to Kyoto yesterday, but was so cold I just stayed in bed. I'm staying in a traditional style guesthouse, so there is no heat aside from a kerosene heater so, getting out of bed it's a chore here! I did explore some places today, including the gold temple, another temple, the Inari fushimi shrine, that has several thousand arches like a tunnel going up a mountain, and walked through Gion, the traditional part of the city, where you can still see Geisha sometimes. But it was to cold so I didn't stay long. maybe tomorrow I'll go back.

    Kyoto, more!

Today I walked. And walked. About 9 hours of walking. It was worth it though; there is so much you miss if you only take transportation.
Kyoto is a nice city, but totally different than I expected. There aren't really any tall buildings, and, maybe it's just me, it feels like a small city out even like a large town at times. Also, I find I feel like I could be in Canada here. It's a very good place to visit if you like shrines and temples; I think there are as many as there are convenience stores, and those are quite abundant. Eventually made my way back to Gion, and then to an area that I will look up the name of, where the streets are only lit by lanterns...and camera flashes. Not joking, like every tourist spot here there are always 2000 people taking crappy photos and selfies. I accidentally did too 😁. Only a little though.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, there were some trees blossoming, and the one smelled amazing! I think I spent at least 10 minutes sniffing it!

    Arashiyama, Kyoto

I like Arashiyama, it's on the outskirts of Kyoto, feels more like a small town than part of a large city. Of course, like all of Kyoto's tourist areas it was full of tourist, but still nice. On the way to the mountain where the Monkeys live I happened across a group of Maiko girls getting on a bus. I don't know if it's common to see them, but I felt lucky to see such an iconic part of Japanese culture. Their kimono were amazing! Felt a but sorry for them though, they had about 50 tourists and locals chasing them with cameras. Afterwards I climbed the mountain to see the monkeys, who were kind of ugly to be honest, and obviously catering to the tourists. I would have rather seen more Maiko!

    Farming Hokyo, Nantan City

For the past two weeks I have been working on a vegetable charm about 30 km from Kyoto. It's mostly traditional style farming, and hard manual work, but satisfying. The best part is that I get to eat delicious home made Japanese food for every meal! Oishii!! I wish I could live near Kyoto, the countryside is very nice and scenic, and Kyoto is a very culture rich and interesting city.

    Kyoto continued

The day was so warm, many people were out in yukata and kimono selfying (is that a verb now??) And having wedding photos taken in really amazing wedding kimono. Also there were many maiko girls, and several geiko shuffling purposefully about Gion today, always with at least a few people chasing them with their cameras firing.

    Hokyo- Past two weeks

I haven't updated recently because I haven't really been doing much, except farming. Farming real hard! ;) Took one day and made another day trip to Kyoto to see cherry blossoms again, but unfortunately it was the most rainy day we've had recently. It was fun anyway, and I discovered umbrellas don't keep your feet dry very well.

    Heading to Hiroshima

Left the farm at Hokyo this evening, and after a brief bit of confusion at Kyoto station managed to find the Willer express bus stop in time. Japanese buses (like everything in Japan) are extremely efficient. The bus arrives 10 minutes before departure; everyone lines up in an orderly fashion; the friendly driver checks your name off of a list, and that's it. Also the people on the bus don't look like they want to stab you, which is nice. The bus seats have seatbelts and a hood to put over your head.

    Hiroshima

Arrived in Hiroshima at 0630 this morning. It's an interesting city, and the peace park is really nice. It's amazing and strange to think that only 70 years ago this place was destroyed by the first fission bomb to ever be used on a population, and now it's a busy city where people live their lives normally. The domed building was approximately 150m NW of the site of the explosion, and the bomb was detonated at an altitude of 580m.

    Miyajiyama

This is a fantastic peaceful place to visit! I highly recommend it. After crossing from Miyajima-guchi you exit the ferry and walk through a quiet tourist village, where there are wild (tame) deer sitting around looking bored and eating paper. Then there is a nice long beech. When I got there, the beach was full of people digging for shellfish, and tourists taking photos of them, and also of the Torii gate of course. I was watching hermit crabs in a ride pool, when an American couple dropped a starfish in front of me and asked if the people on the beach were looking for them. I have no idea why they asked me that.
If I had known Miyajima would be so nice I would have gone earlier and spent the day there. As it was, I got there at 1300 left at 1600 for Iwakuni, arrived in Iwakuni just in time to see the bridge before dark and realize there is much more to see than the bridge; then go back to the station and almost miss the last train back to Hiroshima.
    It was a good day.
