    4 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 3 °C

Spent the morning with mum at an appointment whilst K was left to freely wander around the supermarkets- dangerous!!
After lunch pete drive us down to the beautiful coastal village of Perranuthnoe for a coffee before heading through Marazion to sight see St Michaels Mount in the most beautiful light.
On the way home it was a visit to Rinsey Cove where some of Poldark was filmed before home for dinner.

  • New glasses and not much else!

    5 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

These posts are getting so dire I’m sorry.
I’m sure no- one really wants to hear about me picking up some new glasses because ive gone a different type of blind on this trip, nor about a visit to the GP because of my cluster migraines!
After this K and I did have a lovely walk right along the seafront and around Pendennis castle.
We met up with my newphew Reece for coffee and then had dinner at mums with my second eldest nephew Blake.
Tmrw may be a fraction more exciting as we r off to Marazion to meet up with Kate Butcher , a friend from the Stanley Hotel, Port Moresby!!

  • Kate Butcher - a friend from PNG

    6 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌙 9 °C

We had a v early start to the day dropping mum and pete off at the train station for a day away at 7.30am. It was dark and absolutely pouring with rain as we headed south down to Marazion.
It was way too early to meet up with Kate Butcher so we found ourselves in the only place open - Sainsbury’s cafe!
If that wasn’t bad enough they didn’t have any teacakes- not a crime in itself..... but it’s situated in a massive supermarket!!! How about someone pops downstairs a gets a couple of packets off the shelves to serve to the customers??!!!
Still pouring down we drove to Marazion and parked the car up a back road so we were nearer to Kate’s house where we were due to meet.
On arriving we found her cottage finally and knocked on all 3 doors repeatedly, called several times to no avail- we were slightly worried as we had only called an hour before surely she couldn’t have forgotten in an hour? We were now soaked through but with still no answer we headed into the village.... and there she was in the charity shop!!! She said she had expected us to park in the car park and walk past her!!!
A coffee at her lovely cottage was followed by a drink overlooking the sea at Praa Sands and then lunch in the Vic Inn at Perranuthanoe.
It was lovely to catch up including on her recent trip to NZ.
4pm saw us pic up my nephew Alfie and after an unsuccessful attempt to get a Xmas tree it was home for dinner.
I’ve left Alfie home about to have a soak in the bath which he loves and I’m picking up mum and pete.

  • Christmas “tree” and a Santa Ride

    7 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Alfie enjoyed his sleepover with us last night and this am we all packed into the back seat of Pete’s car at 8am.
We spent a v pleasant morning purchasing Christmas decorations for our Xmas “tree”.
Getting home, Alfie was taught how to make Scrambled egg for lunch- his first cooking lesson (yep he is nearly 14yrs old!!) which turned out surprisingly well.
After lunch Alfie and I decorated the “tree” in a slightly unusual fashion, as it was quite hard to decorate- well that’s our defence and we r sticking with it!
This afternoon it’s was a trip to St Austell where we were unexpectedly treated to about 50 motorcycling Santa’s (and a grinch!) in a huge Santa run, revving their bikes through the centre of town.
Tonight Alfie decided to stay for dinner and sleep over again so we are now waiting fo the second to last episode of I’m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here!!

  • Pendennis Point walk and my first pasty

    9 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

Despite a storm last night and a terrible forecast we woke to Lovely weather.
It was a good day for another walk around Pendennis Point, past Castle Beach and the historic Falmouth Hotel before landing at the Gyllyngvase Beach cafe for a morning coffee and the paper.
Walking back into town we detoured through the historic Arwenack Avenue which runs parallel to Arwenack Street - info below.

Next stop was Choaks pasty shop- I have been home a week and haven’t had one so today was a huge treat... and Omg it was so good.... the perfect temperature and the best pasty..... it was gone before I got to our front door 3 mins walk away!!!

This evening we cooked a meal for Pete, mum and Jake and still I can’t make my apple crumble taste like my mums... but I did have lashings of clotted cream!!!

  • Second pasty and pasta

    10 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Another wet and windy winter’s day here in Falmouth.
Found a lovely cafe with views of Prince of Wales pier so sat for a couple of hours with a soy latte and newspaper before writing lists of Xmas jobs! God help us!!
Before we knew it it was time to start preparing dinner for the little niece LaCie to enjoy.
My sister and kids popped in for a cuppa before they all went to the dentist which was v handily directly across the road.
Alfie has his career evening at my old school so we entertained LaCie with dinner and a game of Wordstax.
Soon she was on her way with an ice cream we found in the freezer and we settled in to binge watch Googlebox.
Ps Nathan Skinner I had to have another pasty today just so u could get the photo!! Yes I’m a martyr!!

  • Gas engineers and a family xmas photo!!

    11 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

This may just be the worst post yet!!!
I spent the very wet morning with mum and a v nice young gas engineer as he tried to fix her hot water - exciting holiday news!
Actually K was temporarily excited when it hailed and the roof was white - possibly the only glimpse of a white Xmas she will have!
Then it was off out for a look around Par Market which houses several Cornish specialty stalls before K encouraged mum and pete to pose for a Xmas photo whilst I was distracted at the honey stall!!
A bit more Xmas shopping and we were home for wine and nibbles as didn’t feel like dinner. Another wet, dark day in Cornwall- summer is def a better time to visit.

  • Paramedics and a pint

    12 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

Well today didn’t quite go as planned which was to meet mum in Falmouth, do a bit of shopping, take her to Physio etc.
10 mins after arriving in town mum takes a phone call to say Pete my stepdad had had a fall/ collapse and had to call paramedics!!
4 hours later and advice re blood pressure management the lovely paramedics left and so did we to give Pete a rest.
Tonight K sampled the evening delights of a couple of old pubs in Falmouth with some wine and live music. Gale force winds have cancelled the Xmas weekend activities in Falmouth but as its Election Day today there may be more to worry about!!

  • A new car and old friends

    13 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌬 9 °C

After a time inefficient bus trip from Falmouth we had a couple of hours shopping in Truro, in disbelief with the election results- seriously??!!
Just before we picked up our hire car for 2 weeks it decided to bucket it down so we got soaked walking to Europcar.
The kind people decided to give us a “free upgrade” - great except the car is unhelpfully long with all the Cornish on street parking required (aka with only room for a shopping trolley!) with no other option we had to take it.
Cath, jo and Ellen arrived from North Wales at 4.30pm by which time it was raining hard enough to swim down the street. This didn’t stop us enjoying the Xmas lights on the way to an early pint at The Quayside Inn.
It was home for dinner and birthday cake - Happy Bday Cath!!!

  • Geocaching and a baby shark - part 1

    14 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌬 7 °C

Big day today. Started early with you tube videos on how to make slime.
Then after breakfast we jumped in the car to drive to St Michaels Mount but on the way the girls decided to find a couple of Cornish geocaches- the first one being on a bus stop outside Helston Community Hospital!!
Next it was off to Helston boating lake park for a slide and a swing before the second geo- cache of the day by the old water wheel- it wasn’t even yet 11am!
A quick photo of the majestic swans and we headed down to Marazion where it was dry but blowing a gale- great for the wind surfers and kite surfers.
Walking along the causeway was an adventure in itself finding shells and looking for marine life.
Once across onto the Mount it was time for the third geo-cache of the day- high up in the granite gate frame of the picnic area.
Gusty wind made for a fun time exploring before we decided we were all starving so headed back for lunch at the Godolphin Arms- a lovely hotel with the most amazing restaurant views of St Michaels Mount.
Kate and Ellen were looking for “mermaids purses” and v excitedly found a dry one when K then spotted a second one. On picking it up
Ellen tried to convince us there was something in it to which we all replied repeatedly “ it’s just sand and water”. However on holding it up to the light we discovered it contained..... a baby shark (do do do do do!!) - evidential pics To follow!!!!
How totally exciting??!!! During lunch we learnt more about the basking shark embryo which we had found, Ellen had screamed at in excitement and we had stared at in disbelief!!
After all the excitement had died down we thoroughly enjoyed a lunch of Cornish fare whilst enjoying front seat views of the Mount and the incoming tide covering the causeway and our baby shark. TBC.....

  • Lands End and Angharrack Xmas lights

    14 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌧 6 °C

After lunch and an ice cream we drove 30 mins west to the Minack Theatre.
This outdoor theatre was hand made by Rowena Cade in the late 1920’s and is a highlight on the Cornish coastline at Porthcurno.
Sadly today there was nothing on but we were also fighting the soon to be ending day light and winds that were so strong we could hardly stand up so instead of paying £5 to look around properly the kind lady on the desk let us have a quick peek for free before we jumped in the warm car and headed the extra 15 mins to Lands End.
We just got a couple of photos in at the famous signpost and admired the wild seas before the heavens opened and it lashed it with rain.
Back in the car the last port of call for the day was Angharrack- a tiny village outside of Hayle reknown for its 12 Days of Christmas light decorations.
After a pint in the pub waiting until 5pm for the lights to be switched on we walked through this amazing little place admiring the effort in
    All of the Xmas lights.
We couldn’t find the Partridge in the Pear tree- apparently it was in the garden of a lady who had gone to Mexico for the Xmas holidays and no- one had the key to her garage to switch it on!!! Too funny.
By now we were all pretty tired so off we went home for dinner and the final of Strictly Come Dancing.
Great day was had by all.

  • Swanpool and a Cornish Xmas Carols

    15 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Woke up to another dry and sunny am so off to the beach it was. We all had a v slow start to the morning as E was apparently v tired from our big day yesterday so we all had a sleep in and a leisurely breakfast at home.
Next it was off to Swanpool and a walk across the coastal path to Gyllyngvase Beach cafe for a coffee. We had perfect timing which allowed us to avoid a significantly heavy hail shower which came from nowhere.
On the way home it was time for more geo-caching.... aka digging around clumps if grass in a wet wall!! 2 x successfully found before the girls left at 2pm.

Next we were off to a carol concert of traditional Cornish carols that have been resurrected from song books taken out to the colonies by the miners.
It was meant to be at the lively Gwennap Pit but in arriving for the concert we found out it had been moved to Camborne so sadly we missed the first 10 mins. However we thoroughly enjoyed the remaining songs and the readings that were done in the traditional Cornish language by Bert Biscoe.
By now it was throwing it down with rain so K and I enjoyed a wine and dinner at home - these early dark nights make 5pm feel like 10pm!!

  • A lovely dinner with Fiona and Mike

    16 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ☁️ 6 °C

Had a day that didn’t really go to plan but it ended well with a lovely dinner with Fiona and Mike.
New glasses have had to go back as the lenses are so thick they are too heavy for the frames!! Thinner lenses for Xmas it appears.
Took mum to her Physio appt which was a shambles and an embarrassment to the profession- the Physio actually asked me to go easy on her because she had been unwell.... she was the one treating my mum and I was jus asking her questions about why she wasn’t making progress!!!
A drive out with mum and pete took an unexpected turn when Pete became unwell but all good in the end after a trip to the emergency doctor.
Dinner with mike and Fiona was very nice. K cooked a great steak and they all just talked police stuff all night!
Now pretty late and just having a coffee before bed.
    Sorry no photos today

  • St Mawes

    17 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

It was a beautiful day today. Kate Butcher drove up from Marazion so 4 of u caught the Ferry across the River Fal to St Mawes.
Half was over they stopped the boat and I thought it was for us to pay but no it was because there was a lone Harbour Porpoise just swimming past! The sea was so glassy calm we had a great view for a few minutes until it swam off in the direction of Pendennis Castle.
Once we had disembarked at St Mawes we headed to the Rising Sun pub and had a v nice lunch before getting the 2.45pm ferry back to Falmouth. St Mawes is usually so packed in summer you cant move so it was lovely to enjoy it being so quiet on a beautiful sunny, winters day.
Back in Falmouth my eldest nephew Reece came around and cooked dinner.
A Xmas special edition of The Undateables was a nice finish to a nice day.

  • Wild Charlestown

    18 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Another wet and wild day so we drove up to the historic port of Charlestown.
It was so wet all we could do was head for The Pier House, a pub right on the end of the harbour with the most amazing views of the wild sea. It was high tide so the waves were just crashing over the harbour walls.
We spent a lovely couple of hours at a table in the window mesmerised by the sea.
After being blown back to the car it was home to prepare dinner for my niece Mia and her boyfriend Thomas.
A v pleasant couple of hours was spent catching up before a few more episodes of Gavin and Stacey entertained us.
    Winter brings such short days.

  • Mullion Cove and late night shopping

    19 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Yet another dark and wet day!
Spent the am at mum’s waiting for the gas engineer to fix her hot water, took pete to the GP for antibiotics, went to pharmacy with the prescription for said antibiotics and then met a total stranger in Tesco car park and bought a new ( second hand and hopefully not stolen!!) phone- all before lunch!!
We drove mum and pete to Mullion Cove for lunch before heading back to Penryn to pick up Alfie and LaCie for late night Xmas shopping and a sleep over.
Late night shopping was a total fizzer as town was totally empty and most of the shops closed but we didn’t care as we went for a hot chocolate and then to Trago where my 7yr old niece wanted a crop top undies set!!!
Back home it was nachos for dinner, then bath and bedtime before last day of school tmrw. Can’t believe Xmas is next week!!!

  • Second visit to Angharrack Xmas lights

    20 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Woke up feeling less than rested after I had to get up to LaCie from 03.30am- 04.30am and then get up for real at 7am to get her ready for school- the joy of having children- not!
Sent her off to school albeit with wet hair as I didn’t realise we had a hairdryer!!
Next it was off for a bit of xmas shopping with mum and Alfie before a coffee in Chacewater Garden Centre.
At 4pm we drove 40 mins back down to Angharrack to show Alfie the Xmas lights- the bonus was we found the partridge in the pear tree this time!!
Home at 8pm before feeding Alfie and cracking open the xmas tin of Quality Street. Alfie has to educate K in the types of chocolates ( cultural training)- outside it was pouring with torrential rain again. It’s never ending rain.

  • Bloody sat nav- getting lost in Wales

    23 Aralık 2019, İngiltere ⋅ ☁️ 6 °C

Well today didn’t quite go as planned!
We were driving from Cornwall to Mold in North Wales for a last minute, secret wedding tmrw.
Leaving at 9.15 am we were hoping to arrive in Mold approx 3.30-4pm to give us time to enjoy the evening with Cath, Jo and Ellen.
Despite checking the sat nav to make sure it was taking us to the correct location before we left it threw a curve ball when it instructed us to come off the M4 instead of continuing up the M5/M6 as expected. I could only think it was to avoid horrific Xmas traffic somewhere near Birmingham.
K was doing her best Gavin and Stacey impression of “ oh, oh, oh , tidy” (which wasn’t helpful) as we drive over the bridge into South Wales.
To cut a v long day short somehow the sat nav had us going to an unspecified location somewhere in mid wales!!! This was only realised as we were driving in circles around road works and diversions and heading towards Brecon!
8 hours and many small, flooded backroads around Hereford later ( and after realising K didn’t know how British roads were categorised!) we arrived in Mold at 5.15pm.... not amused!!
Anyway a couple of wines later and a game of Quirkle and life was ok again.... excited for tmrw!!!

  • Cath and Jo’s Wedding on Xmas Eve

    24 Aralık 2019, Galler ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

This was an incredible, last minute secret wedding in Mold, North Wales between 2 of my oldest friends Cath and Jo.
The morning dawned with a mixture of sun and cloud.
After a family breakfast, K and I headed into Mold with a shopping list of beaded pins for the bouquets, a cake stand, a pair of sparkly tights for Ellen, and a car wash due to yesterday’s prolonged drive through muddy lanes. We couldn’t have the brides arriving covered in mud!
The next 2 hours flew by and many random shops, K needing an Interpreter over the beaded pins and a car wash later we finally got back to the girls at 1pm.
K kindly took Ellen to look at the horses whilst I jumped in the shower, got ready and made sure I had the rings and the girls were all good.... despite looking extremely nervous they were totally ready before I was.
K and E got back with stories of the horses and before long it was 2pm.... time for some photos at home and then Into the car for the 15 min drive to Mold Registry office just below Theatre Clwyd...... lots of nerves!!!
There was a beautiful light as we arrived and after a few photos outside where poor E felt freezing it was inside for last minute toilet breaks and then we were off.
Cath and Jo had a v small and intimate ceremony with just K and I, Ellen and then Andrea ( jo’s uni friend with her husband Neil and 2 boys, Alfie and Oliver). Phil taking the photos finished off the small entourage.
It was all v lovely and I had a nervous moment when I couldn’t get the ring box open but Ellen helped and all was good!!
After the lovely ceremony it was back home to the girls house for bubbly and party food all ready prepared.
Sadly at 5.30pm we had to say our sad goodbyes as we had a 6 hour drive home to Cornwall.
The traffic was non- existent and seeing we made the motorways as planned we actually got home at 11pm.
The flat was clean, tidy and ready for Xmas day trmw.
    Congratulations Cath and Jo!!
