    First day!

    January 22, 2017 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

The longest day ever! Left LA at 4:00 pm Thursday got to Chiangmai at about 11:00 am Saturday. Tyler and Mical are wonderful tour guides! We all had foot massages and dinner before collapsing into bed around 9. Whew, bed felt amazing!Read more

    Day 2

    January 23, 2017 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Tyler picked us up and we went to church which is located at the zoo! It's a missionary type church lots of kids from YWAM, missionary family's, from everywhere. We walked the zoo which was very pretty and were able to feed bears, otters, hippos and giraffes. Up close and personal with the giraffes! We had a fun time at Tyler and Mical's playing games and a slide show. We went to dinner at an amazing spot. It was decorated for Christmas still, but it was huge! Over the water! Another great day!Read more

    Day 3

    January 23, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Today we went to Tyler and Mical's office! It was "take a friend with you to work day"! It was fun to see and experience their daily tasks and to meet those that they work with. Super nice and very friendly people! We felt very welcome. They all eat lunch together sitting on the porch by large mats on the floor. After a relaxing break back at their house we went to class with them where they teach English. Mical is a natural and definitely in her element. The students all had such a desire to be there and learn. Jill and I passed on going out for dinner and instead had a bag of Bugles and Diet Coke!Read more

    Day 4

    January 25, 2017 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Jill and I were on our own most of today. After breakfast we went to a market close to our hotel in search of Mango Steen for Jill. Beautiful flowers were everywhere along with fresh fruits and vegetables. The fresh fish is a bit nauseating in places without much ventilation!! Then after freshening up back at the hotel we headed for the old city gate. First we made a stop for Mango Sticky Rice - which is now a favorite! We found a place for foot massages recommended by Mical where ex-prisoners give the massages. We located our favorite coffee place - Lana's for a delicious frappe break! Wats are everywhere so we checked out a few. Tyler joined us later for dinner at the Night Market while Mical was teaching. Another great day! Can't wait for tomorrow's adventures!!Read more

    Day 5

    January 26, 2017 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Our destination this morning was the Illusion Art Museum. It's room after room of beautifully painted walls where you stand in a certain place to fit into the scene. I think I was the only one of us that felt awkward. I guess I'm a horrible actress!😊 However it was really fun. We went to Lemongrass for lunch- a local hot spot. Then it was off to Shan language class. Jill and I just sat in the class and listened. I know I couldn't do half as well as Tyler and Mical. Now it was time for cooking school. First our group went to the market where we were shown the ingredients we'd be using and we were told what we could use at home for substitutions! We made Pad Thai, Coconut Soup, Fresh spring rolls, Curry, and Mango Sticky Rice. We were stuffed, but the whole evening was very fun! We certainly wont loose any weight on this trip!😆Read more

    Day 6 Thursday in Thailand

    January 27, 2017 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

For our exercise this morning we walked to a Wat that is made of silver and aluminum. Pretty impressive! What is also impressive it that we didn't get hit by a car or trip and fall on the sidewalks which are so small and uneven!! We went back for more Mango Sticky Rice and yummy coffee at a favorite spot. After a break at our hotel Mical joined us for Thai massages. The three of us were side by side as these sweet quiet ladies proceeded to torture us for an hour! Is it right to bend our bodies the opposite way they normally bend?? Ouch! The four of us went to the mall for dinner and a movie -Founder, the story of McDonalds. Jill will never eat there again! Not that she did before!😊Read more

    One week already!

    January 28, 2017 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We're off to play with the elephants! What a beautiful drive. It was my final wish of the week to get out of the city into the beautiful dense green areas! Our group was around 25. For the morning we fed and got a little acquainted with the elephants. Learned their names and how to dodge them when they moved around. They provided a wonderful lunch and then we went to the mud ponds to bathe them. Tyler was kind enough to throw their droppings off to the side, although I'm sure the water had a lot of ingredients we weren't aware of! They would roll in the mud and spray us, even sneezing right in my face! It was an educational experience! They are amazing creatures!
For our final dinner we went to Tyler and Mical's favorite place. The grounds look like botanical gardens. Orchids everywhere! Even the bathrooms were beautiful!!
Well we start our journey home today. It will be sad to say goodbye to the best tour guides ever! We've been so blessed to be with them and get a feel for their life this year. It's easier to know how to pray more specifically for them. God is going to do amazing things with them as they demonstrate Gods hands and feet to these people! 🙏
