    July 20, 2019, North Sea ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Second attempt at sending this post! So here goes again!

We left home on Thursday 18th July and had a pleasant drive to Ripley Caravan Park. We struck camp in glorious sunshine. Once we had unpacked and set up, we had lunch and then got the bus into Harrogate. We spent a couple of hours at Providence Terrace while Edward reacquainted himself with us. Then it was back to the campsite where we enjoyed supper in warm sunshine.

We spent most of Friday at Providence Terrace and Edward entertained us with his smiles and demonstrated his crawling skills. Sarah and Edward taught of some of the songs they have been learning at one of their groups. We got back to the campsite at 8.30pm and after a rainy day, it brightened up and we were able to sit outside for 45 minutes or so before settling into the van with our books and an early night.

We were up bright and early on Saturday 20th and after breakfast, packed up and headed up the A1 to Seahouses. We are now unpacked and settled in at Willerby. We have been enjoying lovely sunshine interspersed by torrential downpours!

  • Seafield

    July 24, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Our adventure continues! Yesterday (24th July) Peter and I walked to Bamburgh in glorious sunshine but possibly a bit too hot! At Margaret’s request and it is her birthday after all or it will be on the 27th - we had lunch at The Potted Lobster. A fabulous lunch. We shared a starter of potted lobster, shrimp, crab and trout which was absolutely delicious. Then Margaret had Lobster Thermidor, chips and salad. It brought back memories of holidays in the States! Peter enjoyed a very generous portion of halibut, which was cooked to perfection, skinny fries and salad. All washed down with a bottle of Italian pink Pinot Grigio.

Today (25th), Sarah, Andrew and Edward arrived at Seafield and Peter and Margaret took up residence in Wolfgang, their VW van on a touring pitch at Seafield, allowing Sarah and family to stay in our static caravan, Willerby. Our touring pitch which is actually the overflow at Seafield touring pitches has wonderful sea views. We quickly set up camp and it was then back to Willerby where Peter cooked a wonderful BBQ of big prawns to start, followed by chicken, sausages and griddled vegetables. Andrew has harvested some potatoes from their plot in Harrogate and produced a delicious potato salad. Edward tucked into griddled vegetables and some sausage removed from its skin. He sat in his high-chair with us on the deck and entertained us with his smiles and his “chat”.

    July 25, 2019 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

On Thursday 25th, Margaret and Peter moved out of Willerby and set up camp in Wolfgang onnonenof the touring pitches at Seafield. It was a warm sunny day and we had a magnificent sea view. Sarah, Andrew and Edward arrived early afternoon and quickly established themselves in Willerby. My birthday celebrations commenced. Having requested a BBQ for Saturday, the weather forecast was not looking good so the BBQ was brought forward to Thursday. Edward tucked in heartily to potato wedges, griddled courgette and red pepper and a little bit of sausage. The adults enjoyed big tiger prawns to start followed by marinaded chicken, sausages, griddled vegetables and an excellent potato salad prepared by Andrew with potatoes dug from the plot the previous evening. An excellent meal!Read more

  • My birthday!

    July 27, 2019 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

My day started with blueberry pancakes, bacon and maple butter. Peter had made the pancakes at home, frozen them and brought them with us. Peter and I enjoyed ours at Wolfgang with our sea view. Then we headed to Willerby where I enjoyed opening my presents and cards. After lunch, Sarah and I enjoyed making a new jigsaw. We enjoyed lasagne and salad in the evening and Edward enjoyed pasta and home-made tomato sauce. Then, we had the most delicious Black Forest Gateau made by Sarah. A very enjoyable birthday and a lovely relaxing day spent with my favourite people!Read more

  • Ripley again

    August 21, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Stay with me folks. I am trying another off-line entry! We left Barbon at about 10.30am to drive to Ripley via Harrogate. The road was busy with various roadworks and a lot of tractors transporting hay. It reminded of a song which Sarah sings with Edward of a big red tractor bumping along bring in the hay. “Hay”!Read more

  • Wolfgang goes to Scotland

    September 1, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Wolfgang is about to embark on his second Scottish Safari taking his owners with him! Wolfgang has had a full service, been to the car-wash and has been filled up with diesel. We have spent the whole weekend sorting out equipment and re-stocking the pantry. We have bought some new equipment including a small gas BBQ, comfy outdoor chairs complete with fold-out Gin and Tonic tables! Wolfgang now has a “reserved” sign so that if we are camping for more than one night on a campsite and choose to go off for the day, we can drive away and know that we won’t lose our pitch. We are hoping to attach a couple of pictures to this blog entry including a picture of a map so that you have some idea where we are going.
Thanks for following us on our journey. We would be grateful if you would respond to this blog entry so that we know the Penguins are doing their job!

  • Wolfgang goes to Scotland

    September 3, 2019 in Northern Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We’re off! We drove from Barbon to Ardrossan, a journey of 180 miles, arriving in plenty of time to fill up with diesel and to fill ourselves up with tea at Asda before queuing for the ferry on Brodick on the Isle of Arran. The CalMac (Caledonian MacBrayne) ferry was large and spacious with lots of different seating areas. The journey took 55 minutes.
At Brodick, we turned left and headed south taking in Lamlash, Kildonan, Lagg and then up the west coast to Blackfoot Water, taking in Arran Aromatics along the way. At Blackfoot Water, we turned east across the middle of the island, back to Brodick and then north to Lochranza and our campsite. The weather, although showery, misty and driech allowed us glimpses of sea and coastline, all of which was scenically very attractive. There are many attractive harbours, bays, villages, craft shops etc.
We were fortunate to be able to set up camp whilst it wasn’t raining - always a bonus and even enjoyed cooking and eating al fresco - before the next band of mist and rain appeared! The campsite is located at the foot of three Fells (to use a Cumbrian term).
We are now sung, warm and dry inside Wolfgang. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
