    On our way...

January 30, 2023 in the United States

I slept well last night and woke up with the alarm, instead of laying in bed waiting for it. I made it to PDX by 5am, and had my pre-flight Bloody Mary with Tracy.

    On the plane now.

    Long Beach Port to Radience

    January 30, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 48 °F

We've arrived! Not at the gate quite yet. Weather is rainy and cool. We are now waiting in the weird dome shaped terminal. It is decorated with a bizarre combination of green forest scenery on the walls and fake trees all over.

We boarded at about 11am. The ship was busy, and we stopped at the bar. We realized that we were not getting served until we did our muster drill. So we found our station G, and watch someone show us how to put a life jacket on. And that was it.

Next stop was food and the buffet was our only good option. It was crowded! The food was good. Our cabins were to be ready at 1:30, so we still had time to kill. We went to the Blue Iguana bar. We had 2 cocktails and hung out until 1:30.

Our rooms are in the aft on the main deck, which is the 2nd. Tracy's luggage was there, but mine was not yet, but I saw it on the porters cart. Tracy was going to nap, so I unpacked and set out to explore...

    Exploring the Radience

    January 30, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 48 °F

This afternoon has been an exercise in one drink at a time. At 1:30 we found our cabins. Tracy's bag was there, mine was close. Tracy was so tired that she wanted to nap. We agreed that she could sleep until 4pm and I would bang on her door after that.

I went to my room and unpacked completely. For one person, the room is pretty spacious. After that, I decided to explore the ship. I found our dining room and then discovered the least crowded bar was the casino. I ordered a cocktail and took it to go as I wandered the ship.

I ended up at the Radience Bar, which is the main bar in the Atrium. It took forever to get a drink. Once I got a glass of wine, my plan was to head back to the room and relax, but I ended up talking to the guy next to me, name? Then we talked to a woman from Cincinnati who was a Bengals fan. She created a new drink. The Bitter Bengal--Aperol Spritz with grenadine.

At 4pm I went to find Tracy who was still a sleep. Well, not after I pounded on her door!

    We're Sailing!

    January 30, 2023, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌧 50 °F

After Tracy was up and about, we went to the Red Frog Tequila bar. As we were drinking and goofing around, the ship sailed. It was raining and cool, so there was no big deck party.

It was getting cold, so we found the Alchemy Bar. The menus looked like something out of Harry Potter, as they were back-lit. The drinks were delicious! We still had 45 minutes until dinner so we went to the Serenity Bar, which is in the adults only area. Unfortunately it was outside and freezing! We took our drinks inside. It looks like we stopped for a round at the Radience Bar, too!

Our dinner time is at 8:15, which is late when you've been drinking all day. We had 2 ladies at our table who just met that day. I think they are from Chicago. The other 2 were quieter, from California somewhere. Dinner was delicious. I need to order more food next time!

After dinner we stumbled back to our cabins and called it a night!

    Morning--Day 2.

    January 31, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

I am currently waiting for my shuttle to Catalina. It will probably be another hour.

I woke up at 6:30am, feeling pretty refreshed. I threw on my "hotel coffee" outfit--leggings and the blue hoodie, and headed to the Lido deck. I ended up having breakfast since I brought the gnomes, and they were hungry 😋.

The salmon benedict was good, as were the potatoes. I had to look around to find somewhere to fill my coffee. After I did that, I walked around and found photo ops for the gnomes. It is a beautiful morning.

At this point, I may not get to Catalina. Not the end of the world.

    Not Catalina

    January 31, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 54 °F

Shuttle 19 was eventually called after several hours. Apparently two of the shuttles were out of service so it really backed things up.

After I realized that I wasn't getting to Catalina, I went back to my room and changed into my suit. No sign of Tracy yet. I started my alcohol intake with a Bloody Mary at 9am. It was not the last...

Tracy messaged me at 10:30 or so to say she was on her way up. We hung out on the deck until 2pm, when she went to sit in the shade. I stayed out another hour or so. My last drink on the deck was at 3:15...

Finally, I went to the cabin to lay down for a bit

    Fancy night.

    January 31, 2023, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌬 54 °F

I woke up from my nap at 7:30pm. Nap, sleeping it off, both work.. Tracy messaged that she was at the Alchemy Bar. I got myself together in a hurry and met her up there.

We ran into a birthday group and had a cocktail. Everyone was dressed so different. I wish I'd brought the red dress! Our table was just us. Monica stopped by, but she wasn't staying. We saw Cassie, from the night before, with her husband. It took forever, but we finally were able to sit with them. Dinner for me was prime rib, shrimp cocktail, fried oysters, and Creme Brulee for dessert.

We hit the Radience Bar for drinks and Tracy was fading. She left and I stayed. I met Stacy from Dallas. I should have stopped drinking, but several Sav blancs later, I went over the limit! The bartender, Hary, gave it to Stacy and I had that 16th drink!

We walked to the Limelight Lounge and that's when my legs stopped working. I stumbled back to the cabin to pass out.

    Ensenada

    February 1, 2023 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

I woke up as we were close to Ensenada. Again, I couldn't sleep in. So I showered and headed to the buffet for coffee. I ended up with too much breakfast! First I got the eggs benedict and potatoes. Then I saw no line for burritos and got that too! Did I forget that I had a food tour later?

I was off the ship at 8:30am, and started to worry about Tracy. She showed up at 8:55. Phew!

At 9am we were following Selene to our bus. It was a shabby small bus. There were about 20 of us. We got a mini tour of Ensenada. It became a tourist hub during prohibition. The margarita was invented here--I think we saw that hotel. Then we drove for about 45 into the mountains for our cooking class. The area is known for wine and olive oil. It does look a lot like Italy in some places.

The class was outside, under a big tree. It was freezing in the shade! The teacher was Brenda and she was great. We watched her make salsa in a molecajete with roasted peppers, onion, garlic, and tomatoes. Then we all made our own guacamole. Next were enchiladas, then a tostada. The margaritas were very tame! We had 20 minutes to shop and/or warm up before we got back into the bus.

Next was a tequila tasting in town. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Still don't like silver tequila, but I did okay the the reposada and añejo. Then there was peach, almond and cinnamon, and finally coffee. Yum!

I would have liked to have just walked back to the ship, but Tracy wanted to shop. It was awful. Crappy shops that all sell the same thing, begging children, people trying to get you to come to their shop. Not my thing...

It took a while to get back on board. Two security checks, plus checking our cards on the bus. All I wanted to do was nap! I get to the room and I am wired. Plus the TV wasn't working. I went up to the Lido deck and got a cocktail, wrote in my journal, and watched the sun go down. It was getting cold, so I went back to the room to change. I was headed for the Alchemy Bar but ended up at the Radience Bar because the really good singers were there. Ran into Stacy from last night.

It's 2 hours until dinner. I should nap. I do need to change!

    Fahrenheit 555

February 1, 2023, North Pacific Ocean

After rushing back to my cabin to change, I met Tracy at the restaurant. We were seated immediately and ordered our cocktails. I had something with elderflower liqueur and probably prosecco. For appetizers I ordered the oysters and French onion soup. They also gave us an amuse bouche that was a mini cheese burger. For my main course I had the surf and turf--tenderloin and lobster tail. It was not impressive. The lobster was overcooked. But the potatoes were amazing! For dessert, we both had the cheese cake that was delicious.Read more

    Fun At Sea Day

February 2, 2023, North Pacific Ocean

I didn't sleep again last night. I tried to fall asleep, but gave up at 7:30am. I realized that I was getting sick at about 4am. I think it will be bad this weekend.

I showered, put my Hotel Breakfast outfit on and wandered around, trying to figure out what to do for breakfast. It took me awhile to find the brunch restaurant. When I found it, there was a line. I wasn't really hungry, so I just went to the buffet for coffee. Then I found a deck chair in the sun to write in my journal.

The ship is going around in circles off the coast of Mexico, so the sun kept moving around. I got my first bloody Mary before I finished my coffee. It was cool on deck 10, but eventually I took off my hoodie and hiked up my pants. Next was a piña colada, but I needed to change into my suit after that.

Tracy joined me at noonish, and we spent the afternoon hanging on the deck. At 3pm, it was getting cloudy and a bit cold. We went back to our cabins. I was going to take a nap but ended up packing instead. So sad.

At 4pm, I headed to the Alchemy Bar to try the rosemary cinnamon drink. Very good!
