      Birthday Snubfin Dolphin Cruise

      September 6, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

What an adventure we had on the Broome Snubfin Dolphin Cruise.

We arrived at the beach and took an amphibian boat to our vessel. The girls were amazed that boats could also have wheels and go on land, such a treat.

Straight off the bat, we saw a massive sea snake, but that was just the start of a fantastic day.

We found the Snubfin Dolphins, affectionally called Snubbies by the locals, very early on the cruise and watched them catching fish, playing, and just cruising around near the boat, they are amazing creatures.

The Captain, Cam, told us that Snubbies have a unique way of catching fish, they squirt water from their mouths on the surface to confuse the fish below and a lot of time the fish actually swim into the dolphins mouths...we saw them do it and apparently it's pretty rare to see so we were stoked with that.

We continued to cruise around Roebuck Bay looking for marine life, we saw a few turtles, some more sea snakes and some bottlenose dolphins. Cam also told us that a bottlenose dolphin calf had lost her mother and the Snubbies adopted her, very cool.

We were hoping to see some dugongs, but unfortunately, we were out of luck. The aboriginal people are allowed to hunt these beautiful creatures, and the dugongs moved out of the area after a big hunt in May and they haven't been seen since.

We still had an amazing time and would definitely go on this cruise again, the boat was amazing as well and the crew and the food.

After our cruise, we ventures to Gantheaume Point to see the dinosaur footprints, such a beautiful location, if we come back to Broome we will go on low tide and try and find some more prints.

We loved Broome and might come back and spend a couple more nights after we complete The Gibb River Road.

      Sea Kayaking

      November 8, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Great kayaking trip in very warm water amongst the mangroves. The contrast between the colour of the sea and the red sand was breathtaking.
Paddled under the Broome pier and launched with tide in and then when we returned the tide had receded by approx 200 meters in length and about 18 meters in depth...extraordinary.Read more
